The idea of saving human lives using machine learning algorithms has pervasive impression. This study has targeted the most significant cause of death and human health deterioration. In this paper we have collected data from different smokers having different smoking status. Several studies have tried to collect the factors but none of them have identified the factors that can lead to quitting this habit. We present a novel approach where machine learning algorithms are used for identification of the factors for smoking cessation. Due to their high classification rate, the used algorithms are Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (J48) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Data set is generated by combining different type of sources, in order to identify factors that can classify the status of the smoker as smoker, former smoker and non-smoker. 33 Attributes were used with 10000 instances, class problem was divided in three classes Smoker, Non-Smoker and Former Smoker. The significance of an attribute obtained using the odds ratio, and factors were identified using classification with 10 fold cross validation combined with 1-1 and 1-against all method. The classification rate was highest for Logistic Regression-95.77%, for predicting the class value FSMKR, odds ratio for attribute L_STATUS and B_P_&_HYP have the highest value in predicting the class. Smokers who are living with their parents and not having blood pressure and Hypertension tend to show the cessation behavior. Attribute SMK_MORNING exhibits the pattern of smokers desire to smoke in morning which has the highest value for all three algorithms, while ANN shows only correctly classified instances. When ANN is combined with evaluator and search method results were obtained at 95.10% correctly classified instances.

Sonic Infrared (SIR) NDE is a relatively new NDE technology; it has been demonstrated as a reliable and sensitive method to detect defects in wide range of materials including metals, metal alloys, ceramics and composites. Defect characterization is of a great importance for NDE practitioners as it provides the information that aids to make proper maintenance decisions. In last conference, we presented an analytical model that describes heat diffusion from subsurface defects in composite structures. The major factors that affect the temperature curve are: thermal properties of the material, defect depth, defect size, and the duration of ultrasonic excitation. In this paper, we will present our continued work on the defect depth profiling by using the temporal information of IR images. In addition, we will address the limitations of the current analytical model.

This paper presents an adaptive method for power management in smart shoes data transmission. The device communication module consumes a lot of energy. The transmission power is set to maximum by default. The maximum transmission power is not needed when the node is near the sink. But, the low transmission power is not guaranteed data successfully sent when the device is far from the sink. The transmission power control method is important to avoiding retransmission and improve energy efficiency. The proposed method uses a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to develop an adaptive system. The FLC uses RSSI and the amount of available energy as an input parameter. The system will choose the shortest path based on RSSI. Data exchange between nodes scattered in smart and moving shoes with users can be set by Fuzzy placed on the sink. Sink collects data and sends it to the cloud. The test is carried out on the general device using conventional method compared to the proposed method. The lifetime of both devices compared. Based on experiments, sports fields with several users with relaxed, brisk and running modes show significant power savings compared to conventional methods. The proposed method provides energy efficiency up to 9.2% better than conventional power management.

Sonic Infrared Imaging (SIR) technology is a novel NDE method in NDE family. This technology is capable of detecting surface and subsurface defects in metals, metal alloys, and composites. SIR combines ultrasonic excitation with IR imaging to give a quick detection response in the crack region by observing the temperature change on the structure surface. Nonlinearity phenomena in SIR occur in the coupling between the target and ultrasound transducer, where a single frequency driving excitation source produces sound waves containing multiple frequencies. This nonlinearity is critical in improving the probability of crack detection significantly. In this paper, we will present our study on nonlinearity in SIR with emphasis on the relationship between the frequency of the induced sound waves and their corresponding energy consumption level in the crack vicinity of samples.

Silicon-Germanium heterojunction bipolar transistors (SiGe HBTs) were irradiated with 60Co gamma radiations at different dose rates up to 10 Mrad of total dose. The DC electrical characteristics such as Gummel characteristics, excess base current (ΔIB), current gain (hFE), neutral base recombination (NBR) and output characteristics (IC−VCE) were studied before and after irradiation. The important parameters such as IB and hFE were found to degrade after irradiation. Gamma irradiations at varying dose rates are found to produce drastically different degradation signatures at the different oxide interfaces. The degradation is more for SiGe HBTs irradiated at dose rate of 30 rad/s.
