Recent epidemiological data report that worldwide more than 53 million people have been infected by SARS-CoV-2, resulting in 1.3 million deaths. The disease has been spreading very rapidly and few months after the identification of the first infected, shortage of hospital resources quickly became a problem. In this work we investigate whether chest X-ray (CXR) can be used as a possible tool for the early identification of patients at risk of severe outcome, like intensive care or death. CXR is a radiological technique that compared to computed tomography (CT) it is simpler, faster, more widespread and it induces lower radiation dose. We present a dataset including data collected from 820 patients by six Italian hospitals in spring 2020 during the first COVID-19 emergency. The dataset includes CXR images, several clinical attributes and clinical outcomes. We investigate the potential of artificial intelligence to predict the prognosis of such patients, distinguishing between severe and mild cases, thus offering a baseline reference for other researchers and practitioners. To this goal, we present three approaches that use features extracted from CXR images, either handcrafted or automatically by convolutional neuronal networks, which are then integrated with the clinical data. Exhaustive evaluation shows promising performance both in 10-fold and leave-one-centre-out cross-validation, implying that clinical data and images have the potential to provide useful information for the management of patients and hospital resources. © 2020, CC BY-NC-ND.

While proper orbital elements are currently available for more than 1 million asteroids, taxonomical information is still lagging behind. Surveys like SDSS-MOC4 provided preliminary information for more than 100,000 objects, but many asteroids still lack even a basic taxonomy. In this study, we use Dark Energy Survey (DES) data to provide new information on asteroid physical properties. By cross-correlating the new DES database with other databases, we investigate how asteroid taxonomy is reflected in DES data. While the resolution of DES data is not sufficient to distinguish between different asteroid taxonomies within the complexes, except for V-type objects, it can provide information on whether an asteroid belongs to the C- or S-complex. Here, machine learning methods optimized through the use of genetic algorithms were used to predict the labels of more than 68 000 asteroids with no prior taxonomic information. Using a high-quality, limited set of asteroids with data on gri slopes and i − z colors, we detected 409 new possible V-type asteroids. The first generation of small noisy quantum processors have recently become available to non-specialists who are not required to understand specifics of the physical platforms and, in particular, the types and sources of noise. As such, it is useful to benchmark the performance of such computers against specific tasks that may be of interest to users, ideally keeping both the circuit depth and width as free parameters. Here we benchmark the IBM Quantum Experience using the Deterministic Quantum Computing with 1 qubit (DQC1) algorithm originally proposed by Knill and Laflamme in the context of liquid state NMR. In the first set of experiments we use DQC1 as a trace estimation algorithm to produce visibility plots. In the second set we use this trace estimation algorithm to distinguish between knots, a classically difficult task which is known to be complete for DQC1. Our results indicate that the main limiting factor is the length of the circuit, and that both random and systematic errors become an issue when the gate count increases. Surprisingly, we find that at the same gate count wider circuits perform better, probably due to randomization of coherent errors. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) display difficulty engaging in social interactions. How does the use of a NAO robot during a social skills intervention affect the speech of children with ASD? This study examined whether the use of a NAO robot during a social skills intervention affects the quantity and quality of speech in six children (mean age = 11.6 yrs., range = 10.5-12.6) with ASD who attended four weekly social skills intervention sessions. The speech quantity was defined as an overall speech rate (utterances per minute), initiation rate (utterances per minute addressing the robot/other child), and response rate (utterances per minute responding to the robot/other child). Mean length of utterance (MLU) in overall speech, initiations, and responses was also measured. A marginally higher initiation rate and overall MLU in speech to the robot were identified in later sessions. Children produced a significantly higher MLU in responses to the robot in later sessions. MLU for initiations were marginally higher than MLU for responses to the robot. No changes in speech rate or MLU in speech directed to other children were identified. This suggests children may require repeated exposure to the NAO robot before changes in speech characteristics are revealed.

Annular geometry with porous medium is considered to analyze conjugate heat transfer. The solid is placed at the inner radius of the annulus. The upper half of the inner radius is heated with constant temperature Th and outer radius is cooled to temperature To. Triangular elements are main element type that divides the physical domain into smaller segments for finite element solution. Different geometrical as well as the physical parameters are analyzed. The heat transfer is lower in the case of upper section being heated.

This work deals with a detailed review on preparation, extract, use and efficiency of bio-diesel based Mahua plant oil. About 40 recent research papers that were based on the production, use and efficiency of Mahua Biodiesel were reviewed. The necessary information like the production of the mahua biodiesel from mahua oil using various methods, the properties of the biodiesel, its blends and diesel itself, the methods used for the preparation of blends, its performance and the exhaust emission – has been compiled and has been presented in the form of review paper. Indeed, the blends with added catalyst shows the better combustion and emission efficiency compare to diesel itself. So, this work helps the researchers to get an overall idea on different processes and techniques involved in extraction of mahua oil, use of mahua oil (blending with different proportion), several catalyst that can be added with bio-diesel and the best blend that gives better efficiency in terms emission.

Nowadays, a large amount of user privacysensitive data is outsourced to the cloud server in ciphertext, which is provided by the data owners and can be accessed by authorized data users. When accessing data, the user should be assigned with the access permission according to his identities or attributes. In addition, the search capabilities in encrypted outsourced data is expected to be enhanced, i.e., the search results can better present user's intentions. To address the above issues, ESAS, an Efficient Semantic and Authorized Search scheme over encrypted outsourced data, is proposed. In ESAS, by integrating PRSCG (the privacy-preserving ranked search based on conceptual graph) and CP-ABE (ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption), semantic search with file-level fine-grained access authorization can be realized. In addition, search authorization can be done in an offline manner, which can improve search efficiency and reduce the response time. This article deliberates the investigation of heat transfer in porous annular cylinder subjected to conjugate heat transfer at inner surface. The heating condition is such that the outer surface of the cylinder is heated to constant temperature and inner surface at cold temperature. The heat transfer occurs from outer surface to the inner surface through a solid being attached at inner radius. This article discusses the effect of physical parameters which are taken in terms of dimensionless parameters on heat transfer behavior. The interface of porous and solid wall is applied with proper boundary condition to make sure that there is no storage of heat due to dissimilar mediums.
