This study presents a new method of current controls of PMSMs (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) based on a maximum torque control reference frame, which is suitable for high-performance controls of the PMSMs. As the issues of environment and energy increase seriously, PMSMs, one of the AC motors, are becoming popular because of their high-efficiency and high-torque density in various applications, such as electric vehicles, trains, industrial machines, and home appliances. To use the PMSMs efficiently, a proper current control of the PMSMs is necessary. In general, a rotational coordinate system synchronizing with the rotor is used for the current control of PMSMs. In the rotating reference frame, the current control is easier because the currents on the rotating reference frame can be expressed as a direct current in the controller. On the other hand, the torque characteristics of PMSMs are non-linear and complex; the PMSMs are efficient and high-density though. Therefore, a complicated control system is required to involve the relation between the torque and the current, even though the rotating reference frame is adopted. The maximum torque control reference frame provides a simpler way to control efficiently the currents taking the torque characteristics of the PMSMs into consideration.

The nanoparticles of some materials can be used successfully to improve tribological properties through decreasing both wear and friction borne out of contact between the contact surfaces of elements in different devices, particularly vehicles. Nanoparticles of TiO2 and ZrO2 were chosen as additives to the lithium grease lubricating the contact surfaces in tie rod ends. The object of study was the steel ball – the component of the tie rod end – mating with the polymer insert and lubricated with the pure lithium grease or containing the addition of pure TiO2, pure ZrO2 nanoparticles, with a 1%wt. Studies on friction were carried out using the tester allowing cyclical rotational motion and different loading of contact. Wear was investigated by driving a car, whose tie rod ends were analysed, on a fixed 'eight'-shape track and with a fixed velocity pattern. The aim of the study was to obtain the values and waveforms of friction moment and wear versus cycles, loading and composition of lubricating grease. The waveforms of friction coefficient were obtained using the FEM model of the analysed contact zone. Based on the obtained waveforms, recommendations for the composition of additives for lithium grease were made.

Streamflow prediction has a significance influence on improving water supply management and flood prevention. The applications of artificial intelligence (AI) have been proved to have better performance as compared to conventional statistical method in streamflow prediction. Therefore, this study proposed on the development of streamflow prediction model AI techniques namely Bat algorithm (BA) and backpropagation neural network (BPNN). BA is an optimization technique, which is to optimize BPNN in deciding optimum parameters and then improve the prediction accuracy. The study area chosen is Kuantan river and Kenau river, located in Kuantan, Malaysia. Two prediction models are proposed in this study which are BPNN and hybrid Bat-BPNN. Monthly historical rainfall data, antecedent river flow data and meteorology parameters data for two different rivers were used as the input to the proposed models. The performance of the proposed prediction models for Kuantan river and Kenau river are then being compared and evaluated in term of RMSE and R2. It is found that hybrid model, Bat-BPNN yields lower RMSE and provides higher R2 as compared to BPNN model at both Kuantan river and Kenau river. Therefore, it can be concluded that, proposed hybrid model yields better performances as compared to BPNN model for monthly streamflow prediction.

This paper presents the new laboratory test rig of the vertical axis flexible shaft supported by two active magnetic bearings. Behind the motivation of establishing this setup is the control of vibration modes of the flexible rotor - shaft assembly, while the rotational speed varies and the unbalanced mass on the whirling disc is introduced to the system. The proposed model is aimed to simulate real operation conditions of the rotating machinery with an applied external load, with a variable structure caused by a change of material properties of the rotor - shaft assembly, or due to a fault of some elements coupled with the rotor.

In the present paper, a two dimensional elliptic-parabolic equation with Dirichlet-Neumann boundary condition is studied. The first and second order of accuracy difference schemes for the numerical solution of this problem are presented. Illustrative numerical results of these difference schemes are provided by using a procedure of modified Gauss elimination method.
