The growing prevalence of electric vehicles (EVs) in urban settings underscores the need for advanced decision-making frameworks designed to optimise energy efficiency and improve overall vehicle performance. Regenerative braking, a critical technology in EVs, facilitates energy recovery during deceleration, thereby enhancing efficiency and extending driving range. This study presents an innovative Q-learning-based approach to refine regenerative braking control strategies, aiming to maximise energy recovery, ensure passenger comfort through smooth braking, and maintain safe driving distances. The proposed system leverages real-time feedback on driving patterns, road conditions, and vehicle performance, enabling the Q-learning agent to autonomously adapt its braking strategy for optimal outcomes. By employing Q-learning, the system demonstrates the ability to learn and adjust to dynamic driving environments, progressively enhancing decision-making capabilities. Extensive simulations conducted within a smart city framework revealed substantial improvements in energy efficiency and notable reductions in energy consumption compared to conventional braking systems. The optimisation process incorporated a state space comprising vehicle speed, distance to the preceding vehicle, battery charge level, and road conditions, alongside an action space permitting dynamic braking adjustments. The reward function prioritised maximising energy recovery while minimising jerk and ensuring safety. Simulation outcomes indicated that the Q-learning-based system surpassed traditional control methods, achieving a 15.3% increase in total energy recovered (132.8 kWh), enhanced passenger comfort (jerk reduced to 7.6 m/s3), and a 13% reduction in braking distance. These findings underscore the system's adaptability across varied traffic scenarios. Enhanced Decision Making in Smart Grid Management by Optimizing Adaptive Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning with Vehicle-to-Grid Systems

This research proposes a decision-making framework in which the Adaptive Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) model and the concept of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) interactivity are employed to improve the effective management of smart grids. The research hypothesis introduces innovations for improving the efficiency and security of power systems in the global south, primarily by controlling the net energy transmission between the defined electric vehicles (EVs) and the grid. Other issues that require attention to ensure the proper functioning of smart grids include demand response, load management, and energy storage optimization. In this instance, these gaps are filled by the system’s proposed framework. With the help of MARL, the system dynamics' autonomous learning aspects allow the system to adapt to the capacity of renewable energy sources and electricity demand, which is also time-dependent. Because of the MARL, the autonomous coordination of decision-making has resulted in very positive changes in the system's effectiveness. In particular, this framework permitted an increase of 13.6% in the total energy exchange between EVs and the grid, and the grid stability index improved from 0.84 to 0.87 compared to what would have been achieved with the conventional methods. Enhanced energy management and pricing rehabs added another 22% to net savings. Further, it is stated that deploying MARL-based V2G systems in developing areas has many benefits, including more robust grid reliability and energy security and better integration of renewable energy resources. Such changes aid in reducing fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. © 2024 Regional Association for Security and crisis management. All rights reserved.

Optimizing Service Scheduling by Genetic Algorithm Support Decision-Making in Smart Tourism Destinations

Smart tourism destinations are characterised by the integration of advanced technologies and devices to ensure visitors enjoy a seamless and environmentally responsible experience. A key challenge for such destinations lies in efficiently managing and delivering services to meet tourists' expectations while upholding sustainability principles and resource management practices. This study aimed to explore the application of genetic algorithms (GAs) in optimising service scheduling, thereby supporting decision-making processes and enhancing tourism destination services. The research employed a service scheduling methodology that directed the algorithm towards maximising efficiency and customer satisfaction, in contrast to traditional organisational scheduling methods. The methodology centred on the implementation of an algorithmic approach in service delivery management, prioritising operational efficiency and improved customer experience over conventional scheduling techniques. Data collected were systematically analysed, resulting in the development of a theoretical framework based on the findings. The results demonstrated that genetic algorithms significantly enhance service scheduling efficiency when used alongside other methods. The findings underscore the pivotal role of GAs in enabling businesses to achieve time and cost savings while improving customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the study highlights GAs' capacity for adaptability, allowing schedules to be adjusted rapidly in response to changing circumstances, thus providing flexibility and responsiveness to variations in demand. Finally, the research identifies opportunities for innovation and diversification in applying GAs for time scheduling within the tourism sector. It also emphasises the importance of integrating real-time information into scheduling systems to improve service provision at tourist sites. Visual question answering(VQA)is a multimodal task,involving a deep understanding of the image scene and the question’s meaning and capturing the relevant correlations between both modalities to infer the appropriate *** this paper,we propose a VQA system intended to answer yes/no questions about real-world images,in *** support a robust VQA system,we work in two directions:(1)Using deep neural networks to semantically represent the given image and question in a fine-grainedmanner,namely ResNet-152 and Gated Recurrent Units(GRU).(2)Studying the role of the utilizedmultimodal bilinear pooling fusion technique in the *** the model complexity and the overall model *** fusion techniques could significantly increase the model complexity,which seriously limits their applicability for VQA *** far,there is no evidence of how efficient these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques are for VQA systems dedicated to yes/no ***,a comparative analysis is conducted between eight bilinear pooling fusion techniques,in terms of their ability to reduce themodel complexity and improve themodel performance in this case of VQA *** indicate that these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques have improved the VQA model’s performance,until reaching the best performance of 89.25%.Further,experiments have proven that the number of answers in the developed VQA system is a critical factor that *** the effectiveness of these multimodal bilinear pooling techniques in achieving their main objective of reducing the model *** Multimodal Local Perception Bilinear Pooling(MLPB)technique has shown the best balance between the model complexity and its performance,for VQA systems designed to answer yes/no questions.

Model-Free Adaptive Frequency Calibration for Voltage-Controlled Oscillators

The operating frequency accuracy of the local oscillators is critical for the overall system performance in the communication ***,the high-precision oscillators could be too expensive for civil *** this paper,we propose a model-free adaptive frequency calibration framework for a voltage-controlled crystal oscillator(VCO)equipped with a time to digital converter(TDC),which can significantly improve the frequency accuracy of the VCO thus *** idea is to utilize a high-precision TDC to directly measure the VCO period which is then passed to a model-free method for working frequency *** advantage of this method is that the working frequency calibration employs the system history of input/output(I/O)data,instead of establishing an accurate VCO voltagecontrolled oscillator *** advantage is the lightweight calibration method with low complexity such that it can be implemented on an MCU with limited computation *** results show that the proposed calibration method can improve the frequency accuracy of a VCO from±20 ppm to±10 ppb,which indicates the promise of the modelfree adaptive frequency calibrator for VCOs.

The hardware and software of a computer are controlled by its operating system (OS), which performs essential tasks such as input and output processing, file and memory management, and the management of peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. Application software refers to programs designed for specific purposes, these applications, often freely available and open source, contribute to the rising number of downloads. In the third quarter of 2022, combined downloads from the Apple App Store and Google Play Reached an estimated 35.3 billion. However, the prevalence of insecurity in these applications and technologies heightens the potential for cybercrimes. Protection against unauthorized intruders is crucial in identifying malicious applications. Machine learning (ML) serves as a promising avenue for detecting malware attacks, offering potential solutions to bolster cybersecurity measures. We propose a novel approach utilizing ML to enhance malware detection accuracy by segmenting datasets into distinct groups. Our research employs supervised ML techniques on the CICMaldroid2020 dataset, which includes comprehensive information such as intent actions, permissions, and sensitive APIs. The dataset was partitioned into four groups, each containing 150 features, and analyzed across four experiments to distinguish between attack and benign classes. Our proposed model demonstrated exceptional performance, with the random forest algorithm achieving an accuracy of 98.6% and a precision of 98.75%. These results highlight the effectiveness of our segmentation approach and its significant contribution to advancing malware detection in Android applications, offering a promising direction for future cybersecurity solutions. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

Reducing Wind Direction Data for the Unpredictable Random Number Generator based on Linear Feedback Shift Register

Chiba and Ichikawa (2023) proposed an unpredictable random number generator (URNG) that samples a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) at varying intervals fluctuated by weather data. Although their URNG meets the criteria of the Diehard and NIST tests, it requires a substantial amount of weather data. This study examines various design options to reduce wind direction data. Our results show that the resulting random sequence passes the Diehard and NIST tests under the following conditions: (1) use of a 64-bit or longer LFSR, (2) incorporation of a robust hash function (e.g., MD5) for data selection, and (3) adoption of 64 or greater number of observations with sufficient entropy. © 2025 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

The enhancement of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) is required to ensure protection of network resources and services. This is a hot research topic, especially in the presence of advanced intrusions and attacks. This paper provides a comparison between Distributed Cumulative Histogram (DCH) as a Feature Selection (FS) technique, information Gain Ratio (IGR) FS and wrapper-based FS in terms of accuracy and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The utilization of DCH of the traffic instances in normal and attack cases allows us to compare the traffic charts. We can observe the difference between effective features and less effective ones. We verify the feasibility of using DCH as an FS technique in the field of anomaly detection with just six selected features giving more accurate results with most classifiers compared to the IGR and wrapper-based FS. We applied our experiments on the modern UNSW dataset with the WEKA simulation platform that contains a group of classification, feature reduction and selection techniques. © The Author(s) 2024.

In this paper, two-and-three channel all-optical AND logic gates based on four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear fiber for 120 Gbps on-off keying signals were designed, simulated, and investigated. Simulation results show low bit error rate and consequently fairly high Q-factor at the receiving end in both two and three inputs AND gates, as well as the logic operation, is confirmed by the open eye diagrams with moderate power penalties for both designs. © 2022 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.
