This study proposes a new approach, a communal-based domestic rainwater harvesting (CDRWH) system, which is a new model that combines domestic and communal rainwater harvesting systems. This model is an alternative solution to improve system performance and utilize rainwater overflow from the system. Rainwater runoff from several domestic tanks is channeled to a communal tank to be collected, processed, and redistributed to needy domestic tanks. Overflow from the communal tank is used for groundwater recharge. The CDRWH system model aims to increase water supply, reduce runoff, and conserve groundwater. The model simulation uses daily water balance analysis and yield before spillage algorithm. The simulation scenario uses variations in roof area, number of house occupants, storage tank volume, and rainfall categories: 20 years, wet year, normal year, and dry year. Jagakarsa, an urban area in South Jakarta, was selected for the CDRWH system modeling. The results showed that the CDRWH model significantly improved the performance of the volumetric reliability (VR) and time reliability (TR) systems. In addition, the model could show a comparison of total groundwater recharge (GWR) and groundwater extraction (GWE), where the GWR capacity was higher. This allows centralized rainwater management in communal tanks, thereby reducing groundwater usage. The design of this model is simple. Therefore it can be easily duplicated for application in other locations. © 2025 The Authors

In this paper, we propose a decision support system for green computing in data centers on campuses. Green computing aims at the development of technologies for a greener and more sustainable planet. In this work we focus on the greening of data centers that house servers on campuses. It is known that servers consume a huge amount of power and incur other costs in cooling and related operations. It is challenging to meet the demands of efficiency and accuracy in data centers while yet promoting a greener environment along with cost cutting. Our work proposes a decision support system based on decision trees and case-based reasoning that mines existing data in order to assist decision-making for better management in data centers. We consider various aspects of the data from an environmental management perspective such as carbon footprint, thermal profiles and virtualization. Issues such as efficiency and accuracy are taken into account here, In this proposal paper, we outline the need for our work, the challenges involved, the proposed approach for building the system, preliminary evaluation and future plans. This work would be of interest to the data and knowledge management community as well as environmental scientists and researchers in related areas. © 2010 ACM.

A hierarchical set of kinetic models were proposed and discussed for simulation of autocatalytic decomposition of cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) in cumene at low temperatures. The hierarchy leads from a formal model of full autocatalysis, which is based on conversion degree as a state variable, through a two-stage autocatalytic concentration-based model to a meticulous multi-stage model of the reaction. By the ForK (Formal Kinetics) and DesK (Descriptive Kinetics) software, developed by ChemInform Saint Petersburg (CISP) Ltd., the related kinetic parameters and their significance have also been estimated and elucidated. Through this best-fit approach, it is possible to formulate a systematic methodology on the kinetic studies for thermal decomposition of typical organic peroxides with autocatalytic nature, specifically at low temperature ranges. © 2009 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

Azo compounds are widely used in dyes, pigments, blowing agents, and initiators. Unfortunately, these compounds contain the bivalent -N-N- composition which might be cleavaged readily even under high ambient temperature. The self-accelerating decomposition might cause a runaway reaction and lead to a fire or explosion when the cooling system fails or other upsets occur. To investigate the thermal stability parameters of 2,2′- azobis(isobutyronitrile) with thermal hazard and mechanism, differential scanning calorimetry and thermal activity monitor III were applied with non-isothermal method and isothermal method to obtain onset temperature (T 0), maximum temperature (Tmax), and heat of decomposition (ΔHd). Thermal stability parameters play a pivotal role in thermal analysis, leading particularly to complex evaluation of the inherently safer design during preparation, processing, transport, or storage. The results provide sufficient thermokinetic parameters for process safety in terms of proactive loss prevention program. © Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary 2014.

Sugarcane bagasse wastes as activated charcoal nanopore powder and tablets for adsorption of heavy metal Pb (II) waste

Sugarcane Bagasses are sugar industry wastes can be made activated charcoal in the size of nanopores such forms as powder and tablets to be used as waste absorbents of heavy metal Pb(II). The procedure preparation of sugarcane Bagasses using a drier and a crusher to form powder, carbonization at 300 °C, activation using HCL 5 N, 200 mesh sieving, and sonification to obtain sugarcane Bagasse nanopore powder, the powder can be processed to be tablets. The absorbance testing on heavy metal Pb(II) was carried out using an artificial sample of Pb(NO3)2 solution as well as absorbents in the forms of powder and tablets. Various contact times of sugarcane Bagasse nanopore powder has given results the best contact time occurs in time duration of 3 hours leading to a decrease in concentration of sample Pb(II) by 69.97 %. Various contact times of sugarcane Bagasse nanopore tablets were obtained by adding 1.5 gram of a tablet into 20 ml of the sample solution, the best contact time occurs in time duration of 3 hours leading to a decrease in 35.86 %. Various stirring speeds, in which 25 ml of the sample was added 0.1 gram of nanopore powder and then shaker, the optimum results on 105 rpm can decrease 78.51%. Various stirring times with static stirring speed of 105 rpm the optimum results 60 minutes leading to a decrease in concentration of the sample by 78.06%.

Inflammation is a local protective response caused by tissue injury or damage that serves to destroy, reduce, or localize both injured and injured tissues. In Indonesia, especially in Bali famous for its traditional medicine is Usada Bali. One part of Usada Bali is Lontar UsadaTaruPramana which contains an explanation of medicinal ingredients derived from herbs as an external medicine in the form of boreh (parem). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the formulation boreh usadatarupramana as anti-inflammatory therapy against male rats induced carrageenan. The method used was pre-test and post-test with control group design using 15 male white rats divided into 3 treatment groups. Group 1 (P1 or negative control) was given 15 mg placebo (cream base), Group 2 (P2 or positive control) was given 15 mg sodium diclofenac cream and Group 3 (P3or treatment group) was given 15 mg boreh formulation. The statistical analysis showed no significant difference of rat foot volume between positive control group and boreh formulation group with p-value = 0.444. This suggests that the boreh formulation group had the same effect as the positive control group as the anti-inflammatory therapy on decreased rat foot volume of edema.

The changes of biology learning activities in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic

Biology learning during the Covid-19 pandemic was undoubtedly run online. This causes changes in student learning activities. This study aimed to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic biology learning activities. This study was a quantitative descriptive through a survey of biology education student's at 4 universities (55 students). The survey was conducted by giving a questionnaire to 55 students.. The questionnaire consisted of 50 statement items that included indicators of learning activities for learning before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey results show the average percentage of all indicators of biology learning activities before the pandemic was 79.06%, while during the pandemic it was 70.97%. Student's activities such as group discussions, collaborative work in problem solving, be on time for learning, focus during learning and presentations with online learning during a pandemic have decreased compared to learning activities before the pandemic. The results of this study indicate that student learning activities in learning biology have changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Online biology learning needs to be well developed so that it has a good impact on learning activities.

Students' conceptual and procedural knowledge on integration: Reflections on calculus learning

This study aims to describe conceptual and procedural knowledge on integral topics. Data were collected from 30 students who were randomly selected from 120 students of the mathematics education study program at IAIN Bukittinggi who took an integral calculus course. Data were analyzed by categories from student's work. The results showed that students' conceptual knowledge is still very low. Students do not understand the meaning of the definite integral as the limit of the Riemann sum and build a definition of the integral. Most of the students had a fairly good knowledge of procedural aspects. Students can determine the integral of a function using the basic theorems of calculus and can use the right integration technique for some given functions. On the other hand. Integral calculus learning is expected to increase students' conceptual knowledge in addition to their procedural knowledge.

After the nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant（FDNPP） caused by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11,2011,high concentrations of radiocesium(Cs and Cs) in wild mushrooms and lichens were *** clarify which fungal species are high radiocesium accumulator,the plant pathogenic fungi are investigated *** this study we examine the radiocesium accumulation in azalea leaf gall on Rhododendron indicum caused by Exobasidium japonicum collected from different areas with different aerial radiation *** June 1 and 12, 2012,leaves with leaf gall and healthy leaves of the same tree were collected totally from 23 sites belonging to Ibaraki Pref.,Tochigi *** Fukushima *** 46 samples were dried,weighed and *** concentrations of radionuclides of each samples were determined by gamma-ray spectrometry using a high purity germanium *** results reveal that the concentrations of Cs in diseased samples were double higher than healthy samples at least in 22 *** in one site healthy sample was 1.4-fold higher than diseased *** highest concentration was 3327.2 bq/kg for diseased sample and 1766.8 bq/kg for healthy sample from Date,Fukushima Pref.（ca.60 km far from FDNPP） and this highest concentration was 67-fold higher than the diseased sample of the lowest concentration determined in Tsukuba,Ibaraki Pref.（ca.168 km far from FDNPP）.This study suggests for the first time that plant pathogenic fungi which is chiefly due to hypertrophy of the host cells can increase the accumulation of radiocesium.
