Analysis of chili demand in Indonesia

The increase in population that continues to increase every year and the national economic growth impacts the increase in chili demand, both from households, processing and food industries, and export needs. The price also influences the demand for chili products in the market. When chili production is abundant, the price of chili will be very low and demand will increase, but on the contrary, when chili production decreases, the price of chili will be high and demand will decrease. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence Indonesian chili demand and determine the elasticity of chili demand in Indonesia. The data used in this study is data from 2005 to 2019. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the independent variables that significantly affected the Indonesian chili demand are income per capita, garlic price, and chili export price. The price elasticity of 0.134 indicates that the demand for red chili is inelastic. Shallots and garlic are complementary goods with elasticities of -0.285 and -0.060. The income per capita elasticity is 3.115, indicating that the percentage of red chili demand will increase if income increases.

Flower appearance of six Physalis ixocarpa genotype

Physalis ixocarpa referred to as American Husk Tomato or Tomatillo was used as a vegetable and traditional medicine. It is potential for production mainly as functional foods. The objective of this study was to elucidate the development and character of flower Physalis ixocarpa genotype that expected scientific findings and valuable information for agricultural practices and conservation of plants. The study had used descriptive observational methods of flowering. The flowering stage consists of two stages. In the bud stage, the parameter observed was the first bud apperance time, the colour and size of buds and pedicels. In the blooming stage, the parameter observed was the colour and size of sepal, petal, pistil, anther and filament. The result found that each genotype had the same flower development stage. The flower character differences of each genotype included the first flower emerged time, the colour of the calyx, lateral anther, filament, and pedicels.

The profiles of pre-service elementary teachers (PETs) in biotechnology using RCB

Understanding biotechnology is important to know the benefits of Biology before understanding the other materials. In addition, we can implement it in this research conception of biotechnology using Rainbow Code of Biotechnology (RCB) developed by Pawet Kafarski. The research subjects were 40 Pre-service Elementary Teachers’ (PETs) at the 4th semester in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret year 2017/2018. The test used RCB consisting of 15 multiple-choice items with short reasons. After PETs had done the test, the researcher interviewed them to get in-depth information about their answers. Based on the results, there are PETs’ conception of biotechnology, green biotechnology, red biotechnology, white biotechnology and blue biotechnology. The average percentage of 40 PETs’ correct answers is 37.5%. The lowest mean score is 17.5% in red biotechnology concept, while the highest mean score is in the concept of green biotechnology with the percentage of 30.56%. The lowest mean score is in the concept of RB with the percentage of 17.5%. This research can be used to develop learning methods on basic science courses.

High-quality fluorescence imaging of biological systems is limited by processes like photobleaching and phototoxicity, and also in many cases, by limited access to the latest generations of microscopes. Moreover, low temporal resolution can lead to a motion blur effect in living systems. Our work presents a deep learning (DL) generative-adversarial approach to the problem of obtaining high-quality (HQ) images based on their low-quality (LQ) equivalents. We propose a generative-adversarial network (GAN) for contrast transfer between two different separate microscopy systems: a confocal microscope (producing HQ images) and a wide-field fluorescence microscope (producing LQ images). Our model proves that such transfer is possible, allowing us to receive HQ-generated images characterized by low mean squared error (MSE) values, high structural similarity index (SSIM), and high peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) values. For our best model in the case of comparing HQ-generated images and HQ-ground truth images, the median values of the metrics are 6·10-4, 0.9413, and 31.87, for MSE, SSIM, and PSNR, respectively. In contrast, in the case of comparison between LQ and HQ ground truth median values of the metrics are equal to 0.0071, 0.8304, and 21.48 for MSE, SSIM, and PSNR respectively. Therefore, we observe a significant increase ranging from 14% to 49% for SSIM and PSNR respectively. These results, together with other single-system cross-modality studies, provide proof of concept for further implementation of a cross-system biological image quality enhancement. © 2024, CC BY-SA.

Anaerobic sequencing batch reactor in pilot scale for treatment of tofu industry wastewater

The small industry of tofu production process releases the waste water without being processed first, and the wastewater is directly discharged into water. In this study, Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor in Pilot Scale for Treatment of Tofu Industry was developed through an anaerobic process to produce biogas as one kind of environmentally friendly renewable energy which can be developed into the countryside. The purpose of this study was to examine the fundamental characteristics of organic matter elimination of industrial wastewater with small tofu effective method and utilize anaerobic active sludge with Anaerobic Sequencing Bath Reactor (ASBR) to get rural biogas as an energy source. The first factor is the amount of the active sludge concentration which functions as the decomposers of organic matter and controlling selectivity allowance to degrade organic matter. The second factor is that HRT is the average period required substrate to react with the bacteria in the Anaerobic Sequencing Bath Reactor (ASBR).The results of processing the waste of tofu production industry using ASBR reactor with active sludge additions as starter generates cumulative volume of 5814.4 mL at HRT 5 days so that in this study it is obtained the conversion 0.16 L of CH4/g COD and produce biogas containing of CH4: 81.23% and CO2: 16.12%. The wastewater treatment of tofu production using ASBR reactor is able to produce renewable energy that has economic value as well as environmentally friendly by nature.

Feature extraction methods for batik pattern recognition: A review

Batik is one of the world’s cultural heritages with various decorative patterns. Each batik has its unique pattern characteristic such as color intensity, ornament visualisation and ornament size. Batik with a large-sized ornament and a high-intensity color on its background will result in a clear edge and easy-to-recognise ornaments. While batik with a small-sized ornament and a low-intensity color of the background will produce slight edge ornaments, thus it becomes difficult to recognise. In order to recognise any patterns of batik, some features that can represent each pattern are becomes necessary. Batik pattern features can be obtained from various methods of feature extraction. This paper will address various methods of feature extraction of batik for recognising batik patterns. These methods of feature extraction are categorised into several groups based on visual features produced by batik including feature extraction of color, texture formed in batik, and shape of batik ornament. The grouping of extraction methods in batik aims to describe the methods for extracting features from batik pattern to improve the recognition level of batik pattern.

Administration of 50% propolis ethanolic extract increases the number of gingivitis fibroblast in H2O2-induced rats

Gingivitis may be caused by endogenous and exogenous factors. One of the exogenous factors is caused by chemical compounds such as 35% H2O2, a dental bleaching agent. Dental bleaching is a conservative measure to improve tooth color. This agent may cause inflammation of the mucosa around the teeth like the gingiva. The gingiva may become hyperemic, causing pain and changes in the gingival contour. Treatment of gingivitis basically suppresses inflammatory reactions and speeds the healing process. Histologically, inflammation healing shows an increase in the number of fibroblasts. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of 50% propolis ethanol extract (EEP) in 35% H2O2−induced male Wistar rats. This research was conducted with an experimental design (Randomized posttest only with control group design), consisting of 2 groups, namely the control group and the treatment group. The control group was given aquadest and the treatment group was given propolis ethanol extract with a concentration of 50% topically. The results were analyzed statistically using computer. Mann Whitney U Test showed a significantly higher number of fibroblasts in the treatment group compared to the control group (p<0.05). It can be concluded that the administration of 50% EEP could increase the number of fibroblasts in the healing process of gingival inflammation in 35% H2O2−induced rats.

We consider a problem of quantitative static elastography, the estimation of the Lamé parameters from internal displacement field data. This problem is formulated as a nonlinear operator equation. To solve this equation, we investigate the Landweber iteration both analytically and numerically. The main result of this paper is the verification of a nonlinearity condition in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space context. This condition guarantees convergence of iterative regularization methods. The complexity calculation for group decision making using TOPSIS algorithm

The complexity calculation is one of the things to be considered in choosing an algorithm to be applied to a decision support system (DSS). This study analyzes the complexity of Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) algorithm. This algorithm is applied to the ranking process to resolve the problems associated with Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). MCDM is used for Group Decision Making (GDM) problems in making a decision. The end output of this study is making DM ranking resulted from decision-making. This problem also produces TOPSIS algorithm complexity used in group decision-making. This algorithm complexity is in the part of attribute normalization and weighting which results in O(n2). Whereas the complexity of a positive-negative ideal solution and V distance to A1, A2, A3, and A4 is O(n) and the algorithm complexity ranking results in O(1).

Analysis of Citarum River pollution indicator using chemical, physical, and bacteriological methods

Citarum River is the longest and largest river in West Java. Citarum River has a strategic role in the life of the community, such as a source of irrigation, a raw source of drinking water companies (PDAM), and water sources for 3 reservoirs/dams. However, Citarum River is indicated as one of the highly polluted rivers in the world. Source of pollution comes from industrial waste, household, agriculture, fishery, and other activities. Along the 297 km of the stream, there are 18 million inhabitants and over 2700 industries, some of dispose their waste into the river. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of water pollution of the Citarum River in the downstream area, Karawang Regency, West Java. This research was conducted using chemical, physics, and bacteriological analysis method. Preliminary research was conducted to find out the indicator values such as E-coli, BOD, COD, and turbidity level in the downstream of Citarum River. Preliminary result shows that the clean water threshold was exceeded with E-coli levels reaching 1600/100 ml, BOD 10 mg/liter, COD 19 mg/liter, and turbidity with 320 NTU scores exceeding the clean water threshold (12.8 times the normal). This research shows that Citarum River water is not a feasible source for PDAM raw water and must be processed before becoming drinkable water. Therefore, this research also studied on a water purification model with allophane composites, zeolites, quartz sand, or activated carbon.
