In this paper, we consider the multiclass M/M/1/1 retrial queueing system. Customers of each class arrive from outside the system according to a Poisson process. The service times of customers are assumed to be exponentially distributed with the parameter corresponding to the type of the customer. If the server is busy incoming customers join the orbit according to their type and make a delay for an exponentially distributed time. Equations for the characteristic function of the multi-dimensional probability distribution of the numbers of customers in the orbits are obtained. These equations are investigated by method of asymptotic analysis under the long delay condition of customers in the orbits. It is shown that the probability distribution can be approximated by a multi-dimensional Gaussian distribution. Equations are obtained for finding the parameters of this probability distribution. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, we consider a multiserver retrial queue with two-way communication. Incoming calls arrive according to the stationary Poisson process and occupy the servers. Durations of incoming calls have an exponential distribution. If all the servers are busy upon arrival, the incoming call joins the orbit. The time spent by the call in the orbit is an exponential random variable. Idle servers also make outgoing calls whose durations follow an exponential distribution. We derive the diffusion limits of the number of calls in the orbit and the approximation of its stationary probability distribution. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Current trends point to a not-too-distant future with qualitatively advanced interactions between humans and social robots. It is critical to consider the possibility of forming meaningful social relationships with robots when defining the future of human-robot interactions, as well as studying how these interactions will evolve to the point where humans are unable to distinguish between humans and robots in urban transportation. In this study, the advantages of using social robots in urban transportation are prioritized by using a multi-criteria decision-making tool, which consists of two consecutive stages, namely: i) a novel fuzzy sine trigonometry based on the logarithmic method of additive weights (fuzzy ST-LMAW) that is proposed to calculate the criteria weights;ii) a nonlinear fuzzy Aczel-Alsina function based the weighted aggregate sum product assessment (fuzzy ALWAS-WASPAS) that is developed to select and rank the alternatives. The proposed model enables flexible nonlinear processing of complex and uncertain information encountered in real applications. A case study is developed to rank three alternatives with twelve sub-criteria grouped into four aspects using the proposed method. The results show that the most advantageous alternative is to replace people with social robots as safety drivers in level four autonomous vehicles due to their possible impact on transportation. © 2023 The Authors

This study examines how the nonlinear characteristics of the magnetic core, where the magnetic material in an induction machine (IM) exhibits a nonlinear relationship between magnetizing current and resulting flux, affect the performance of control systems. In typical IM operation, these nonlinearities lead to noticeable changes in inductance values, complicating accurate flux estimation. To address this, we develop a nonlinear observer (NLO) that explicitly incorporates the effects of the magnetic core's nonlinearity for rotor flux estimation. The observer gain is designed using a Lyapunov stability framework to ensure exponential convergence of the estimation error under varying flux conditions. This approach is compared with a conventional full-order Luenberger observer (LO) that assumes a simple, linear magnetization characteristic. Within the FOC framework, two feedback linearization strategies are evaluated. The FL sat takes into account the non-linear variations in machine inductances caused by saturation, enabling a more accurate representation of IM dynamics. However, this approach is more complex to calculate because of the nonlinear terms. The FL unsat simplifies control design by neglecting the effects of magnetic saturation, thus reducing computational requirements. Despite its simplified structure, FL unsat delivers comparable performance over the nominal speed and flux operating range. The results highlight a trade-off between dynamic modeling fidelity and control accuracy, offering valuable insights for the design of controllers and observers for IM. While FL sat is well suited to scenarios requiring high accuracy and dynamic tracking, FL unsat emerges as a pragmatic alternative for applications favoring simplicity and real-time implementation. Quantitative measurements further support these results: under constant resistances, the proposed NLO achieves an absolute integral error (IAE) of 0.0133 in rotor magnetization current tracking compared to 1.0

While a considerable body of research addresses firms’ endeavors toward environmental sustainability, the prominence of green computing has been somewhat eclipsed by impediments hindering its swift integration and development. To address this gap, this study conducted a comprehensive analysis, identifying twelve distinct barriers categorized into adoption costs, technological challenges, and internal obstacles. Through consultation with fifteen field experts, the study employed Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) and Matrice d’Impacts Croises Multipication Applique´ an Classment (MICMAC) methodologies to scrutinize the influences among these barriers. The findings illuminated that firm size and legal constraints emerge as pivotal and autonomous factors exerting substantial influence on the adoption. Additionally, the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method was deployed to ascertain the relative importance of these barriers and delineate their causal relationships. Notably, the DEMATEL results underscored that, according to experts, adoption cost barriers hold greater significance compared to other dimensions. Transactional risk, technological complexity, and switching cost were identified as pivotal barriers within their respective dimensions. The decision-making framework formulated in this study offers valuable insights for managers and practitioners, providing a nuanced understanding of the interplay between identified barriers and their implications for implementing green computing initiatives. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. 2024.

Partnerships for science Education (PAFSE) is a case study of project-based learning applied to real-world problems connected with public health and sustainable development. The EU-funded project organizes science education activities at low secondary level engaging students and school stakeholders (universities, research centres, start-ups, enterprises, governmental organisations, NGOs) in health promotion and disease prevention actions that benefit the health and well-being of the community. Projects leaded by schools are addressed within educational scenarios co-created with partners interested in STEM education and developed under a relevant public health issue through their continuous engagement in open schooling approach. © 2022 The Authors. Human eyes are related to own affects and emotions, and seem to twinkle when human has positive affects and emotions such as a strong interest and eagerness. Human is subconsciously attracted to the twinkling eyes. In this study, aiming at the development of a novel communication interface that attracts human, we focused on the reflected glare on the surface of eyeballs and proposed an expression method that superimposes human shadows on pupils. We conducted an impression experiment to evaluate the proposed method and demonstrated that the method was effective for attracting human. Based on the result, we developed an advanced interface that expresses twinkling eyes for attracting human. The developed interface generates a pseudo reflected glare by superimposing human shadow on each pupil as a pseudo-self-image. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Slow Retrial Asymptotics for a Single Server Queue with Two-Way Communication and Markov Modulated Poisson

In this paper, we consider an MMPP/M/1/1 retrial queue where incoming fresh calls arrive at the server according to a Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP). Upon arrival, an incoming call either occupies the server if it is idle or joins a virtual waiting room called orbit if the server is busy. From the orbit, incoming calls retry to occupy the server in an exponentially distributed time and behave the same as a fresh incoming call. After an exponentially distributed idle time, the server makes an outgoing call whose duration is also exponentially distributed but with a different parameter from that of incoming calls. Our contribution is to derive the first order (law of large numbers) and the second order (central lim让 theorem) asymptotics for the distribution of the number of calls in the orb计 under the condition that the retrial rate is extremely low. The asymptotic results are used to obtain the Gaussian approximation for the distribution of the number of calls in the orbit. Our result generalizes earlier results where Poisson input was assumed.

Today, Cybersecurity is one of the most critical challenges for anyone who is connected to the Cyberspace. However, there are limited visibility and public awareness towards this issue. This paper review the fundamentals of the Cybersecurity awareness among the Higher Learning Institution students in Malaysia. The aim is in line with the Malaysia’s Cyber Defense initiatives on the National Cybersecurity policy. This study aims to bridge the gap of the levels of Cybersecurity awareness on Cybersecurity threats among the students in the Malaysian Higher learning Institutions. Awareness in this project conceived of as comprising knowledge, behavior, and attitudes, and its relationship among these elements that influences towards Cybersecurity awareness. Since there has not been any standardized Cybersecurity policy in Higher Learning Institutions, there is a need for this research to do a critical analysis of factors affecting students’ Cybersecurity awareness in Higher Learning Institutions. The findings of this study will be helpful for the students to improve their livelihood and people around them, higher learning institutions, academicians, future employers and indirectly will help the Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) department. In line with the Cybersecurity Malaysia, the study contributes to a betterment of society in Malaysia.

In this work, we study for the first time jet-medium interactions in heavy-ion collisions with introduction of saturation and Sudakov effects with parameters tuned for upcoming forward calorimeter acceptances in experiments, in particular the ALICE FoCal detector. We focus on γ+jet correlations by taking into account in-medium parton evolution using the BDIM equation that describes jet interactions with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) combined with vacuum-like emissions (VLE). We systematically introduce the early time gluon saturation dynamics through the small-x Improved Transverse Momentum Dependent factorization (ITMD). For our purpose, we use Monte Carlo programs KATIE and TMDICE to generate hard events and in-medium parton evolution, respectively. We present results of azimuthal correlations and nuclear modification ratios to gauge the impact of the gluon saturation effects at early time for the in-medium jet energy loss. © 2024, CC BY.
