Condensation Energy Density of Superconducting Bi‐2223 Single Crystals

Condensation energy density of superconducting Bi‐2223 single crystals with different anisotropy is estimated from the pinning strength of columnar defects nucleated by Au‐ion irradiation. The virtual critical current density in the ideal creep‐free case is estimated from the observed critical current density using the flux creep‐flow theory. Then the condensation energy density is estimated from the virtual critical current density using the summation theory. The obtained condensation energy density of Bi‐2223 is compared with those of Y‐123 and Bi‐2212 superconductors. It was found that the condensation energy density of overdoped Bi‐2223 is higher than that of Y‐123 at low temperatures, although it is far below that of Y‐123 at high temperatures. This shows a high potential of Bi‐2223 for application at low temperatures. A large Jc of 2.8 × 1011 A/m2 is obtained for the overdoped specimen, which is two times higher than Jc of Y‐123 with five times higher density of the columnar defects. The temperature dependence of the thermodynamic critical field of Bi‐2223 is more gradual than that of Bi‐2212 at high temperatures, indicating a superiority of Bi‐2223 over Bi‐2212.

This paper presents condition assessment of high voltage equipment and substation as health index. Major equipment of high voltage substation consists of circuit breaker, disconnecting switch, current transformer, voltage transformer and surge arrester. The condition of equipment is assessed by visual inspection and electrical test. The weighting and scoring method is applied throughout the process of health index calculation. The Analytic Hierarchy Process is used to calculate the weight for each criterion. The conditional score and its weight of each testing are used to calculate the weighting average score. Then, the obtained weighting average score is adjusted by visual inspection, maintenance completeness and failure rate of equipment. The adjusted average score of all equipment in a bay is integrated into bay health index and subsequently adjusted by age and operational stress of bay. Finally, the health index of fifteen substations can be determined.

There is a demand from simulation users for speed, the ability to obtain quickly results from simulation runs. Cloud computing offers the potential for scalable, on-demand access to resources that can be used to speed up simulation. However, developing cloud computing solutions for industry is difficult without appropriate expertise. This paper introduces the CloudSME project that is dedicated to developing cloud computing solutions for simulation in industry and presents an overview of the CloudSME Simulation Platform that is being used to support an initial set of Cloud-based versions of Simul8's discrete-event simulation environment, Ascomp's TransAT computational fluid dynamics application, Ingecon's 3D Scan Insole Designer tool and 2MORO's Bfly software for aircraft maintenance logistics. The paper presents an overview of cloud computing, the CloudSME project, the architecture of the CloudSME Simulation Platform and its two key elements: gUse and CloudBroker.

A reinterpretation of experimental data on learning was used to formulate a law on data acquisition similar to the Hamiltonian of a mechanical system. A matrix of costs in decision making specifies values attributable to a barrier that opposed to hypothesis formation about decision making. The interpretation of the encoding costs as frequencies of oscillatory phenomena leads to a quantum paradigm based in the models of photoelectric effect as well as of a particle against a potential barrier. Cognitive processes are envisaged as complex phenomena represented by structures linked by valence bounds. This metaphor is used to find some prerequisites to certain types of conscious experience as well as to find an explanation for some pathological distortions of cognitive operations as they are represented in the context of the isolobal model. Those quantum phenomena are understood as representing an analogue programming for specific special purpose computations. The formation of complex chemical structures within the context of isolobal theory is understood as an analog quantum paradigm for complex cognitive computations.

Automotive simulation can potentially compensate for a lack of training data in computer vision applications. However, there has been little to no image quality evaluation of automotive simulation and the impact of optical degradations on simulation is little explored. In this work, we investigate Virtual KITTI and the impact of applying variations of Gaussian blur on image sharpness. Furthermore, we consider object detection, a common computer vision application on three different state-of-the-art models, thus allowing us to characterize the relationship between object detection and sharpness. It was found that while image sharpness (MTF50) degrades from an average of 0.245cy/px to approximately 0.119cy/px;object detection performance stays largely robust within 0.58%(Faster RCNN), 1.45%(YOLOF) and 1.93%(DETR) across all respective held-out test sets. © This is an open access article published by the IET under the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://***/licenses/by/3.0/)

In the present paper the experimental research dedicated to derivation of anhydrite cements with upgraded mechanical, physical properties and water resistance. The mechanism of the influence of technogenic fine-dispersed additives such as burnt galvanic sludges to the structure and properties of anhydrite matrix is discovered. The anhydrite cements were selected and the rational spheres for its application in the building industry were offered.

It is widely known that investing in different portfolios increases the security of investments against various threats (risks). In this paper, was developed a model based on stress strength analysis to with aim to quantify the impact of various complex threats on the heterogeneous (diversity) investment portfolios. Here it is used a multivariate analysis to create an analytical model describing the investment portfolios. Finally, an example of the impact of two complex stresses on two investment assets is given.

A mathematical approach to determine the financial portfolio of equal risky deposit financial assets

In the invest theory and practice is widely spread the approach of reducing the negative influence of the risky assets by their division in a portfolio. The necessity for diversification of the assets is obvious and it’s due to the desire for reducing the risk of the entire portfolio. On the other hand, there are little deliberations on the over-fragmentation of the assets. Every diversification has own price and the over-fragmentation of the assets in the portfolio makes the approach counter-productive. In the paper is presented a mathematical approach which determines the effective level of allocation of the Cash Financial Asset in the integrated portfolio. In this article are adopted the constraints about the division of the asset on equal parts and equal risk level of each fraction. It proves that there is an optimal portfolio for a given asset size.

Despite the widespread adoption of smart devices and home automation systems, users still face usability challenges. Additionally, evaluating the usability of smart home systems is not straightforward. Our paper focuses on building a Smart Home Prototype, selecting, and evaluating software User Interfaces (UI). We have chosen the smart home heating system as the basis, but the principles are applicable to other applications. To discuss smart home UIs, it is necessary to understand the components, implementation scenarios, configuration, and operation of smart home systems. Therefore, we devote considerable attention to these topics in the paper. Our smart home system utilizes a Raspberry Pi computer, temperature sensors, servo drives, an Android-based smartphone, and other necessary hardware. We installed and configured open-source software and third-party services on the experimental setup. We provided a brief description of each selected software. We used the Home Assistant operating system, its mobile application, voice assistant Alice, and Telegram chatbot. In our study, we described a methodology for evaluating user interfaces in smart homes and conducted an experiment to assess their usability. The experiment results indicated which interface was more user-friendly and identified the drawbacks of each. In conclusion, we discuss UI features that can improve usability and available options for building a smart home based on capabilities. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Empirical Comparison between Cross-Validation and Mutation-Validation in Model Selection

Mutation validation (MV) is a recently proposed approach for model selection, garnering significant interest due to its unique characteristics and potential benefits compared to the widely used cross-validation (CV) method. In this study, we empirically compared MV and k-fold CV using benchmark and real-world datasets. By employing Bayesian tests, we compared generalization estimates yielding three posterior probabilities: practical equivalence, CV superiority, and MV superiority. We also evaluated the differences in the capacity of the selected models and computational efficiency. We found that both MV and CV select models with practically equivalent generalization performance across various machine learning algorithms and the majority of benchmark datasets. MV exhibited advantages in terms of selecting simpler models and lower computational costs. However, in some cases MV selected overly simplistic models leading to underfitting and showed instability in hyperparameter selection. These limitations of MV became more evident in the evaluation of a real-world neuroscientific task of predicting sex at birth using brain functional connectivity. Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
