Linear carbon chains (LCCs) are one-dimensional materials with unique properties, including high Debye temperatures and restricted selection rules for phonon interactions. Consequently, their Raman C-band frequency’s temperature dependence is a probe to their thermal properties, which are well described within the Debye formalism even at room temperatures. Therefore, with the basis on a semiempirical approach we show how to use the C band to evaluate the LCCs’ internal energy, heat capacity, coefficient of thermal expansion, thermal strain, and Grüneisen parameter, providing universal relations for these quantities in terms of the number of carbons atoms and the temperature.

Two-dimensional (2D) graphene-like materials have attracted tremendous interest due to their remarkable properties in nanoelectronics. To understand and characterize the various physical properties of silicane relevant to optoelectronic and battery applications, various characteristics of 2D silicane Si2H2 are investigated using the density-functional theory. It is disclosed that the structure of 2D Si2H2 is stable, which corroborates its experimental feasibility based on the computational outcomes. With absorption coefficients of about 73.08 (104/cm) and 158.86 (104/cm) at 7.63 eV and 7.66 eV, respectively, it is pertinent to optoelectronic devices. 2D silicane is an exemplary K anodic material, owing to its lesser average open-circuit voltage (OCV) (0.23) and superior theoretical capacity (506 mAhg-1). Afterward, we procured the lowest activation barrier (40 meV) for K migration, which implies the swift charge/discharge mechanism for potassium ion batteries (PIBs). These concomitant findings reinforce the pertinence of silicane material in solar and K anodic utilizations. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)and perovskites are among the most attractive and widely investigated semiconductors in the recent *** are promising materials for various applications,such as photodetection,solar energy harvesting,light emission,and many *** these materials to form heterostructures can enrich the already fascinating properties and bring up new phenomena and *** in this field is growing rapidly in both fundamental studies and device ***,we review the recent findings in the perovskite-TMD heterostructures and give our perspectives on the future development of this promising *** fundamental properties of the perovskites,TMDs,and their heterostructures are discussed first,followed by a summary of the synthesis methods of the perovskites and TMDs and the approaches to obtain high-quality *** attention is paid to the TMD-perovskite heterostructures that have been applied in solar cells and photodetectors with notable performance *** through our analysis,we propose an outline on further fundamental studies and the promising applications of perovskite-TMD heterostructures.

Upcycling waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles has attracted intensive research interests. This simultaneously alleviates plastic pollution and achieves a waste-to-resource strategy. Waste PET water bottles were used to fabricate value-added activated carbon (AC) electrodes for capacitive deionization (CDI). The KOH activation temperature (greater than 700 °C) prominently affected the physi-chemical properties and desalination performance of PET-derived activated carbons (PET-AC). Profiting from a large Brunauer-Emmet-Teller specific surface area (1448 m g) with a good mesoporous structure (the ratio of the mesopore volume to the total pore volume was 41.3%), PET-AC-1000 (activated at 1000 °C) possessed a huge specific capacitance of 108 F g for capacitive ion storage. Moreover, when utilized as the electrode material in single-pass CDI, PET-AC-1000 exhibited a maximum electrosorption capacity of 10.82 ± 0.11 mg g and a low level of energy consumption (0.07 kWh mol), associated with good electrochemical charging-discharging cyclic stability. The results provide a promising facile approach to tackle the challenge of plastic pollution and promote the advancement of electrode materials for economic affordable and energy-efficient electrochemical desalination process, which meets the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs).

A decade has passed since high-energy astrophysical neutrinos have been discovered by IceCube, however the corresponding sources have not been fully identified yet. The reported coincidence of the high-energy IceCube-170922A with the gamma-ray blazar TXS 0506+056 is not enough to claim that blazars are the dominant high-energy neutrino emitters in the Universe. In fact, recently IceCube announced a second correlation with NGC 1068, a nearby Seyfert galaxy, which is significantly different from a gamma-emitting blazars. The hunt for counterparts of the IceCube neutrinos using gamma-ray telescopes started in 2012. Nonetheless, these efforts will continue with the next-generation gamma-ray telescopes, such as the CTA Large Size Telescopes (LSTs) and other telescopes, by means of an improved and revised observation strategy. These new observations will allow us to detect enough sources in order to elucidate the mystery of the neutrino emitters. In this contribution, we introduces the efforts made thus far in the search for gamma-ray counterpart of high-energy IceCube events using the current generation IACTs, focusing on alerts made of multiple neutrinos events, and present an idea to improve in the observational strategies with the CTA LSTs that will become operational in the coming decade. We will discuss how to reduce the bias to gamma-ray emitters in order to search for possible neutrino counterparts. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

The prototype Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is in commissioning phase at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos at 2200 m a.s.l. in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). LST-1 is a 23-m diameter telescope and is the first of four that will compose the LST part of the CTAO Northern array. The LST subarray is optimized to provide the best sensitivity for gamma rays in the 20 GeV - 200 GeV energy range. The MAGIC telescopes, which are located approximately 100 m from the LST-1, is operating as a two 17-m telescope stereoscopic system for more than 14 years. LST-1 and MAGIC routinely perform joint observations of gamma-ray sources to exploit the potential of the three-telescope system. This contribution describes the analysis pipeline and evaluates the performance of the system using Monte Carlo simulations and data on the Crab Nebula. The sensitivity achieved during joint observations with MAGIC and LST-1 is about 30% higher than that of MAGIC alone. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Smart polymeric materials applied to industry 4.0: A review on electrochromic textiles

Smart polymeric materials are vital to Industry 4.0 for the development of new technologies in order to gather data in real-time, providing useful information to the manufacturing system. In this context, electrochromic textiles have been researched with innovative applications for information monitoring. Electrochromic textiles are reported to reversibly switch colors through the incorporation of several conducting polymers, while the flexibility and stretchability are provided by the polymeric fiber. The scope of electrochromic technologies can be extended to different polymeric fibers, such as poly(amide) and poly(methyl methacrylate). Electrochromic textiles have been explored due to their promising applications in sensing, detecting, and displaying. This work aims to present and discuss the overall usability of electrochromic textiles by reviewing recent developments which have been done in order to straighten the path for future researches in this field. The current state-of-the-art shows that researchers are seeking an approach to obtain electro-stimulated response smart textiles having frequency response, high precision and excellent discoloration ability, meanwhile without changing the normal fabric properties. The possible application of electrochromic textiles for the development of Industry 4.0 is discussed. Despite the great technological evolution until this moment, there is still too much to be explored and discovered in the field of electrochromic textiles with potential application for the expansion of Industry 4.0.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) hold great promise as porous materials for pervaporation applications. However, the exploration of MOF membranes in this field is still in its early stages. One of the main challenges is the relatively low mass flux and stability of pure MOF membranes compared to other materials used in pervaporation. In this study, we propose a novel approach to enhance the separation performance of MOF membranes for water and ethanol separation. Our strategy involves incorporating the 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDC) linker into the MOF-303 structure, partially replacing the 3,5-pyrazoledicarboxylic acid (PDC) linker. The goal is to increase the aperture size of the microporous channels in the pristine MOF-303 membrane, thereby improving the mass flux. X-ray diffraction characterization, combined with Rietveld refinement, confirmed that the partial substitution of PDC with TDC resulted in an increased pore-limiting diameter (PLD) of MOF-303. For instance, the pristine MOF-303 exhibited a PLD of 5.78 Å, while MOF-303(70/30) with 70% TDC replacement displayed a PLD of 6.02 Å. To fabricate the mixed-linker MOF-303 membranes, we utilized a seeded growth method, which yielded membranes with dense layers, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and air permeation characterization. The prepared membranes were subjected to pervaporation tests to evaluate their performance in separating 90 wt.% ethanol at 60 °C. The pristine MOF-303 membrane exhibited notable separation capabilities, with an average flux of 0.071 kg·m −2 ·hr −1 and a water/ethanol separation factor of 5371. Surpassing the unmodified MOF-303, the mixed-linker MOF-303(50/50) membrane demonstrated improved mass flux and water/ethanol separation factor. Specifically, the MOF-303(50/50) membrane displayed an average flux of 0.092 kg·m −2 ·hr −1 and a water/ethanol separation factor of 8500.
