Photonic technologies continue to drive the quest for new optical materials with unprecedented responses. A major frontier in this field is the exploration of nonlocal (spatially dispersive) materials, going beyond the local, wavevector-independent assumption traditionally made in optical material modeling. On one end, the growing interest in plasmonic, polaritonic and quantum materials has revealed naturally occurring nonlocalities, emphasizing the need for more accurate models to predict and design their optical responses. This has major implications also for topological, nonreciprocal, and time-varying systems based on these material platforms. Beyond natural materials, artificially structured materials—metamaterials and metasurfaces–can provide even stronger and engineered nonlocal effects, emerging from long-range interactions or multipolar effects. This is a rapidly expanding area in the field of photonic metamaterials, with open frontiers yet to be explored. In the case of metasurfaces, in particular, nonlocality engineering has become a powerful tool for designing strongly wavevector-dependent responses, enabling enhanced wavefront control, spatial compression, multifunctional devices, and wave-based computing. Furthermore, nonlocality and related concepts play a critical role in defining the ultimate limits of what is possible in optics, photonics, and wave physics. This Roadmap aims to survey the most exciting developments in nonlocal photonic materials, highlight new opportunities and open challenges, and chart new pathways that will drive this emerging field forward–toward new scientific discoveries and technological advancements. A survey on the perception of students against technology in learning mathematics

Discoveries related to information and communication technologies change the viewpoints of humans against the world including the world of education. The role of technology supports many activities, especially learning activities, and it also can support the learning process. education systems in the globalization era show the transformation which is previously manual and conventional into the system that effectively and efficiently can improve the information technology. Thus, this research aims to identify the perception of students toward technology in learning especially mathematics. This study uses a survey approach, with data collection methods namely questionnaires distributed to 42 students. The results show that 70% of students had enthusiasm and interest in technology especially mathematics learning.

We examine the robustness of the color-color selection of quiescent galaxies (QGs) against contamination of dusty star-forming galaxies using latest submillimeter data. We selected 18,304 QG candidates out to z ∼ 3 using the commonly adopted NUV-r-J selection based on the high-quality multi-wavelength COSMOS2015 catalog. Using extremely deep 450 and 850 µm catalogs from the latest JCMT SCUBA-2 Large programs, S2COSMOS and STUDIES, as well as ALMA submillimeter, VLA 3 GHz, and Spitzer MIPS 24 µm catalogs, we identified luminous dusty star-forming galaxies among the QG candidates. We also conducted stacking analyses in the SCUBA-2 450 and 850 µm images to look for less-luminous dusty galaxies among the QG candidates. By cross-matching to the 24 µm and 3 GHz data, we were able to identify a sub-group of "IR-radio-bright" QGs who possess a strong 450 and 850 µm stacking signal. The potential contamination of these luminous and less-luminous dusty galaxies account for approximately 10% of the color-selected QG candidates. In addition, there exists a spatial correlation between the luminous star-forming galaxies and the QGs at a. 60 kpc scale. How does the environment affect active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity? We investigated this question in an extinction-free way, by selecting 1120 infrared galaxies in the AKARI North Ecliptic Pole Wide field at redshift z ≤ 1.2. A unique feature of the AKARI satellite is its continuous 9-band infrared (IR) filter coverage, providing us with an unprecedentedly large sample of IR spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of galaxies. By taking advantage of this, for the first time, we explored the AGN activity derived from SED modelling as a function of redshift, luminosity, and environment. We quantified AGN activity in two ways: AGN contribution fraction (ratio of AGN luminosity to the total IR luminosity), and AGN number fraction (ratio of number of AGNs to the total galaxy sample). We found that galaxy environment (normalised local density) does not greatly affect either definitions of AGN activity of our IRG/LIRG samples (log LTIR ≤ 12). However, we found a different behavior for ULIRGs (log LTIR > 12). At our highest redshift bin (0.7 . z . 1.2), AGN activity increases with denser environments, but at the intermediate redshift bin (0.3 . z . 0.7), the opposite is observed. These results may hint at a different physical mechanism for ULIRGs. The trends are not statistically significant (p ≥ 0.060 at the intermediate redshift bin, and p ≥ 0.139 at the highest redshift bin). The effect of problem based learning using circle share activity on argumentation ability: A case study on uniform circular motion

Students’ argumentation ability is very important in the learning process. Argumentation activity is an effective teaching-learning process that becomes an important in learning today and a major concern in many countries over the past decade. The aim of the research is to show the effect of problem-based learning using circle share activity on students’ argumentation ability. Problem-Based learning using circle share activity is the learning model where problem-based learning with the use of two steps circles shares discussion. The first step, the discussion of the problem among student was conducted in each group which consisted of three or four students. The second step, the student discussion was conducted between groups by circle share. The discussion among students between groups will result in more explanation about problem-solving than each group. For control class, students learn using classroom discussion. The data was collected using two-tier tests on uniform circular motion, student reasoning of choosing the answer was considered as argumentation that was analyzed with Toulmin Model Argumentation. The results of the research showed that the student argumentation ability in the experimental class was better than the control class.

Mathematics anxiety has gained massive attention from researchers and mathematics teachers. It happens among students and even becomes a determinant of their view towards mathematics in the future. This study purposes to observe the profile of students' mathematics anxiety in one of public junior high school in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative research. This study engaged a purposive sampling technique, and the instrument used is a sheet of mathematics anxiety questionnaire with Likert scale. The analysis conducted is descriptive. The result of the analysis indicates that students' mathematics anxiety profile tends to belong in the medium category. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that the students' mathematics anxiety in one of public junior high school in Sleman needs to be well-managed.

Mullite-zirconia is a ceramic material that has mechanical properties values that are close with the jaw bone. Lately, various precursor characteristics were used to produce the mullite-zirconia as the starting material. However, the processing requires a higher temperature to achieve crystallization and densification of mullite-zirconia. In this study, mullite-zirconia was synthesized through solid sintering of 3Al2O3−2SiO2 xerogel and ZrO2 xerogel. Those xerogels were produced by the sol-gel method and characterized by particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope. Subsequently, those xerogel were categorized into five batch composition (AlSi, Zr, 85AlSi/15Zr, 80AlSi/20Zr and 75AlSi/25Zr). These samples were then sintered at 1300 °C for 2 hours and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The result shows the acquired particle size of 3Al2O3−2SiO2 xerogel and ZrO2 xerogel are 355.7 nm and 414.3 nm respectively. The morphology of these samples are irregular, however, for ZrO2 xerogel, it has angular morphology in some particles. The XRD exposed AlSi turn into 100% mullite. Meanwhile, Zr produces 22% tetragonal zirconia and 78 % monoclinic zirconia. For 85AlSi/15Zr, it contains mullite and monoclinic zirconia with fraction amounts are 74.4 % and 25.6 % respectively. Subsequently, 80AlSi/20Zr shows the lower fraction amount of mullite crystallinity (71.5 %) along with increasing the amount of monoclinic zirconia (28.5%). Lastly, 75AlSi/25Zr shows the crystallinity of sillimanite, tridymite and monoclinic zirconia with the fraction amount are 57.3 %, 12.1%, 30.6 % respectively. We conclude the reduction in the number of zirconia is able to maintain the mullite crystal, however, along with the increase in zirconia, it inhibits the formation of the mullite structure due to Zr atom act as an inhibitor in substitution of Al with Si atom to form the mullite crystalline.

Algebra is one of the mathematical sciences studied in junior high school. Some students may have difficulty learning algebra. This study aims to determine the difficulties experienced by students in solving the problem of algebraic operations. The type of this research is qualitative research with case study approach. Subjects in this study are students of grade 8D 1 Salam Magelang junior high scchool, Central Java in the semester of the year 2016/2017 academic year. Methods of data collection used include algebraic operations tests, open questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The result of the research that there are students' difficulties in doing algebraic problems related to concept and principle. Students difficulties experienced related to the concept of difficulty in determining variables and constants including but not understanding the definitions of variables and constants, and difficulties in applying the concept of division in algebra. The difficulty experienced in terms of principle is the application of the principle of addition to the algebraic form, the reduction in algebraic form, multiplication on the algebraic form, simplifying algebraic fractions, factoring, and solving algebra-related stories.

Analysis of Sixth Graders' Difficulties in Solving Mathematics Word Problems on Whole Numbers, Fractions, and Decimals

Operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals are important concepts that must be possessed by students. It is a part of mathematics that is very close to everyday life. In fact, many students who have difficulty in understanding the fractions, especially in the word problems. This study aims to describe sixth graders' difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. This research is descriptive with students of grade six as the subjects. Data were collected by tests and in-depth interviews. Tests were used to analyze students difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Interviews were conducted to know the difficulties experienced by the students in depth. The unstructured interviews were conducted with students' error. The results showed that students' difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals are caused by: 1) Students' difficulties in the word problem, 2) Students' difficulties in understanding the concept of fractional operations, 3) Students have less numeracy skills, and 4) Inaccuracy.

The role of spatial experience in mental rotation

Mental rotation is one of spatial reasoning ability. It is the ability of a person to imagine how objects of a two- or three-dimensions look like when rotated in a specific degree. Not only due to curriculum demand, mental rotation is also essential for Mathematics itself, such as in geometry. In addition, it also helps students for their future career, such as architects, computer programmers, and graphic designers. This study aims to describe the mental rotation of female and male students who have spatial experiences with those who do not have spatial experience. The data were collected using Mental Rotation test and interview and were analysed qualitatively. A total of 10 post-graduate students were interviewed in a semi-structural way. The results showed that spatial experience has an important role in improving one's mental rotation.
