This research aims to know student-teacher's perception of mathematical representation in mathematical learning. This research is a qualitative research. The subject of this research are 12 student-teacher. Data collection technique are carried out through interview. Data analyze using Bogdan and Biklen. Data analysis includes steps to collected data, reducted data, categorizing the data and made conclusions. The result show that the twelve subjects can describe the definition of mathematical representation. The subjects considered mathematical representation is important in mathematical learning, which is for: 1) Understanding the concepts, 2) Problem Solving, 3) Construction the concepts and 4) Communication. The subjects considered that it is difficult to develop mathematical representation in mathematical learning. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze continued...challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative

Algebra is one of the mathematical sciences studied in junior high school. Some students may have difficulty learning algebra. This study aims to determine the difficulties experienced by students in solving the problem of algebraic operations. The type of this research is qualitative research with case study approach. Subjects in this study are students of grade 8D 1 Salam Magelang junior high scchool, Central Java in the semester of the year 2016/2017 academic year. Methods of data collection used include algebraic operations tests, open questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The result of the research that there are students' difficulties in doing algebraic problems related to concept and principle. Students difficulties experienced related to the concept of difficulty in determining variables and constants including but not understanding the definitions of variables and constants, and difficulties in applying the concept of division in algebra. The difficulty experienced in terms of principle is the application of the principle of addition to the algebraic form, the reduction in algebraic form, multiplication on the algebraic form, simplifying algebraic fractions, factoring, and solving algebra-related stories. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Mathematics anxiety has gained massive attention from researchers and mathematics teachers. It happens among students and even becomes a determinant of their view towards mathematics in the future. This study purposes to observe the profile of students' mathematics anxiety in one of public junior high school in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative research. This study engaged a purposive sampling technique, and the instrument used is a sheet of mathematics anxiety questionnaire with Likert scale. The analysis conducted is descriptive. The result of the analysis indicates that students' mathematics anxiety profile tends to belong in the medium category. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that the students' mathematics anxiety in one of public junior high school in Sleman needs to be well-managed. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Context. The discovery of an extrasolar planet with an ocean has crucial importance in the search for life beyond Earth. The polarimetric detection of specularly reflected light from a smooth liquid surface is anticipated theoretically, though the polarimetric signature of Earth's oceans has not yet been conclusively detected in disk-integrated planetary light. Aims. We aim to detect and measure the polarimetric signature of the Earth's oceans. Methods. We conducted near-infrared polarimetry for lunar Earthshine and collected data on 32 nights with a variety of ocean fractions in the Earthshine-contributing region. Results. A clear positive correlation was revealed between the polarization degree and ocean fraction. We found hourly variations in polarization in accordance with rotational transition of the ocean fraction. The ratios of the variation to the typical polarization degree were as large as ∼0.2-1.4. Conclusions. Our observations provide plausible evidence of the polarimetric signature attributed to Earth's oceans. Near-infrared polarimetry may be considered a prospective technique in the search for exoplanetary oceans. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mental rotation is one of spatial reasoning ability. It is the ability of a person to imagine how objects of a two- or three-dimensions look like when rotated in a specific degree. Not only due to curriculum demand, mental rotation is also essential for Mathematics itself, such as in geometry. In addition, it also helps students for their future career, such as architects, computer programmers, and graphic designers. This study aims to describe the mental rotation of female and male students who have spatial experiences with those who do not have spatial experience. The data were collected using Mental Rotation test and interview and were analysed qualitatively. A total of 10 post-graduate students were interviewed in a semi-structural way. The results showed that spatial experience has an important role in improving one's mental rotation. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals are important concepts that must be possessed by students. It is a part of mathematics that is very close to everyday life. In fact, many students who have difficulty in understanding the fractions, especially in the word problems. This study aims to describe sixth graders' difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. This research is descriptive with students of grade six as the subjects. Data were collected by tests and in-depth interviews. Tests were used to analyze students difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Interviews were conducted to know the difficulties experienced by the students in depth. The unstructured interviews were conducted with students' error. The results showed that students' difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on the operation which involve whole numbers, fractions, and decimals are caused by: 1) Students' difficulties in the word problem, 2) Students' difficulties in understanding the concept of fractional operations, 3) Students have less numeracy skills, and 4) Inaccuracy. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) is a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy through microbial metabolism. This research aimed to investigate the effect of electrolyte solution on electricity production and determine the bioethanol content using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and refractometer through the fermentation process Saccharomyces cerevisiae in molasses substrate. The research applies a double chamber consisting of an anode and cathode chambers connected through a proton exchange membrane (PEM). This research showed that the addition of 0.2 M KMnO4 electrolyte solution generated a maximum current of 1.20 mA and a voltage of 480 mV with a power density of 2935 mW/cm2. It resulted in a higher power density value than the addition of 0.2 M K3(Fe(CN)6 electrolyte solution, which only generated a maximum current of 1.65 mA and a voltage of 320 mV with a power density of 2690 mW/cm2. The results of the GC-MS analysis showed the presence of bioethanol, and the resulting bioethanol levels were 28.44%. The MFC system with molasses substrate has the potential to generate electricity and produce bioethanol at the same time.

Aims. In this work we examine how environment influences the merger fraction, from the low density field environment to higher density groups and clusters. We also study how the properties of a group or cluster, as well as the position of a galaxy in the group or cluster, influences the merger fraction. Methods. We identified galaxy groups and clusters in the North Ecliptic Pole using a friends-of-friends algorithm and the local density. Once identified, we determined the central galaxies, group radii, velocity dispersions, and group masses of these groups and clusters. Merging systems were identified with a neural network as well as visually. With these identifications and properties of groups and clusters and merging galaxy identifications, we examined how the merger fraction changes as the local density changes for all galaxies as well as how the merger fraction changes as the properties of the groups or clusters change. Results. We find that the merger fraction increases as local density increases and decreases as the velocity dispersion increases, as is often found in the literature. A decrease in merger fraction as the group mass increases is also found. We also find that groups with larger radii have higher merger fractions. The number of galaxies in a group does not influence the merger fraction. Conclusions. The decrease in merger fraction as group mass increases is a result of the link between group mass and velocity dispersion. Hence, this decrease in merger fraction with increasing mass is a result of the decrease of merger fraction with velocity dispersion. The increasing relation between group radii and merger fraction may be a result of larger groups having smaller velocity dispersion at a larger distance from the centre or larger groups hosting smaller, infalling groups with more mergers. The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array Survey of Orion Planck Galactic Cold Clumps (ALMASOP) reveals complex nested morphological and kinematic features of molecular outflows through the CO (J = 2−1) and SiO (J = 5−4) emission. We characterize the jet and outflow kinematics of the ALMASOP sample in four representative sources (HOPS 10, 315, 358, and G203.21-11.20W2) through channel maps and position–velocity diagrams (PVDs) parallel and transverse to the outflow axes. The combined CO and SiO emission exhibits the coexistence of the conventional extremely–high-velocity (EHV) jets and shell-like low-velocity (LV) cavity walls and new features. More complex, nested bubble-like and filamentary structures in the images and channel maps, triangle-shaped regions near the base of the parallel PVDs, and regions composed of rhombus/oval shapes in the transverse PVDs, are also evident. Such features find natural explanations within the bubble structure of the unified model of jet, wind, and ambient medium. The reverse shock cavity is revealed on the PVD base regions, and other features naturally arise within the dynamic postshock region of magnetic interaction. The finer nested shells observed within the compressed wind region reveal previously unnoticed shocked emission between the jet and the conventional large cavity walls. These pseudopulse-produced filamentary features connect to the jet-like knotty blobs, creating an impression of episodicity in mass ejection. SiO emission is enhanced downstream of the reverse shock boundary, with jet-like excitation conditions. Combined, these observed features reveal the extended structures induced by the magnetic interplay between a jet-bearing magnetized wide-angle wind and its ambient magnetized surrounding medium. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.
