Fruits contain a lot of fiber. Fruits contain biologically active substances that improve our health. This study focuses on identifying and classifying guava fruit diseases. Guava disease has become a significant issue for guava production, threatening farmers' socioeconomic growth. As a result of this phenomenon, an automated computer vision-based guava disease diagnosis system was developed that can detect malicious guava and direct it to early cure approaches, reducing relative economic loss. In light of this, we present in this study a guava illness detection and categorization recommendation approach based on convolutional neural networks (CNN). This paper employs transfer learning to classify images using our customized convolutional neural network (CNN) model architecture. The photographs in the data set were obtained from the Mendeley Data website. The data set includes 306 images of healthy and unhealthy guava fruits and leaves. The four disease classes targeted by the data sets are dot, Canker, mummification, and Rust. We obtained an average accuracy of 74.72% for training and 34.74% for testing from the data set used. © 2024 IEEE.

Precise and accurate skeletal age estimation using medical imaging is a pivotal and challenging task in the healthcare sector, particularly for identifying potential bone growth issues in infants and newborns. Therefore, this study addresses the pervasive challenges associated with assessing bone abnormalities in pediatric patients, including injuries and infections. Given the importance of early and precise detection of skeletal development, a novel hybrid model is proposed that integrates a modified convolutional neural network (M-CNN) with a robust machine learning (ML) model, specifically random forest (RF), resulting in the M-CNN-RF framework. This model is designed to enhance pediatric bone health assessment by providing an effective method for skeletal age estimation. The M-CNN-RF model is tailored to accurately evaluate hand bone maturation, overcoming the inherent difficulties in skeletal age assessment. The model utilizes the bone age dataset from the Radiological Society of North America that includes 14,236 left-hand radiological images, focusing on the development of a robust model for a precise evaluation based on hand skeleton guidelines. In addition, to enhance the prediction and generalization of the model, data augmentation techniques were employed to increase the size of the dataset. The M-CNN-RF exhibits exceptional performance using numerous performance measures, achieving an accuracy of 97% and precision and recall exceeding 94%. In addition, the model reaches an F1 score of 97%, highlighting the ability of the model to ensure a balance between precision and recall. Furthermore, low mean absolute error (MAE) and mean square error (MSE) values of 0.0141 and 0.0327, respectively, were computed for the proposed model, which demonstrates its notable efficacy in predicting skeletal age. Universal kinetics of the stochastic formation of polarization domain structures in a uniaxial single-crystal ferroelectric

Initial conditions after quenching from a high-temperature paraelectric phase to a low-temperature ferroelectric phase have a substantial impact on the temporal development and formation of stable polarization domain structures which eventually determine physical properties and the functionality of ferroelectrics. Based on the recently advanced exactly solvable model of the stochastic domain structure kinetics in a uniaxial ferroelectric [Phys. Rev. B 107, 144109 (2023)], we study the effect of the magnitude of the initial disorder, its initial correlation length, and polarization correlation function on the system evolution. For different shapes of the initial correlation function, the time-dependent correlation length and the two-point polarization correlation coefficient are calculated analytically, demonstrating universal features and good agreement with the available experimental data. Particularly, the magnitude of the charge density correlation function reveals a strong reduction of the bound charges at the nominally charged domain walls which was recently observed experimentally in uniaxial ferroelectrics. Consequently, the integrodifferential equations of evolution for the polarization correlation function and the mean polarization are numerically solved for different initial conditions. The temporal dependence of the polarization mean value and variance are evaluated, demonstrating the bifurcation behavior depending on the applied electric field. The impact of the initial state properties on the coercive field deciding between the single- and multidomain final states of the system is disclosed.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a case study of application of the preconditioned method of conjugate gradients (CG) on a problem with operator resembling the structure of sum of Kronecker products. In particular, we are solving the Poisson's equation on a sample of homogeneous isotropic ferroelectric material of cuboid shape, where the Laplacian is discretized by finite difference. We present several preconditioners that fits the Kronecker structure and thus can be efficiently implemented and applied. Preconditioner based on the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse is extremely efficient for this particular problem, and also applicable (if we are able to store the dense right-hand side of our problem). We briefly analyze the computational cost of the method and individual preconditioners, and illustrate effectiveness of the chosen one by numerical experiments. Although we describe our method as preconditioned CG with pseudoinverse-based preconditioner, it can also be seen as pseudoinverse-based direct solver with iterative refinement by CG iteration. Photocatalytic water splitting is a promising strategy for large-scale clean energy production. However, efficient and low-cost solid-state photocatalysts are still lacking. We present here first-principles calculations for investigating the suitability of an epitaxial layer of strontium germanate on a Si(100) single crystal as a photocathode. Conduction and valence band offsets at the interface between these two semiconductors were determined using state-of-the-art approximations of density functional theory for the accurate prediction of band alignments. The resulting band lineup is also confirmed by inspection of the spatially resolved density of states. It is concluded that the conduction band offset of the investigated heterostructure is favorable for photocathodic functionality.

Role of long-range coupling in the properties of single polarons in models with dual electron-phonon couplings

We use the variational exact diagonalization to investigate the single polaron properties for four different dual models, combining a short-range off-diagonal (Peierls) plus a longer-range diagonal (Holstein or breathing-mode) coupling. This allows us to investigate the sensitivity of various polaron properties both to the range of the diagonal coupling and to the specific diagonal coupling chosen. We find strong sensitivity to the range for all dual models as the adiabatic limit is approached; however, considerable sensitivity is observed for some quantities even in the antiadiabatic limit. Also, strong dependence of the results on the specific form of the diagonal coupling is observed everywhere in the parameter space. Taken together, these results suggest that a careful consideration must be given to the specific coupling and its proper range, when quantitative comparisons with experiments are sought.

We report a theoretical investigation of a charged 180∘ domain wall in ferroelectric PbTiO3, compensated by randomly distributed immobile charge defects. For this we utilize atomistic shell-model simulations and continuous phase-field simulations in the framework of the Ginzburg-Landau-Devonshire model. We predict that domain walls form a zigzag pattern and we discuss their properties in a broad interval of compensation-region widths, ranging from a couple to over 100 nm. The zigzag is accompanied by a local polarization rotation which we explain to provide an efficient mechanism for charge compensation.
