A framework of stand up motorized wheelchair as universal design product to help mobility of the motoric disabled people

The number of motoric disabled people in mobility is high. Motoric disability inhibits necessity to maximize one’s potential and working on it has numerous great benefits such as transporting to other places, doing the job, exercises or health recovery. They need appropriate assistive devices as power wheelchair models to assist their daily activity. However, they have many barriers to access them such as the price and availability of the device, and possible solutions in technology is needed especially in developing country like Indonesia. One possible solution is to reduce the owning cost of the assistive device, it is by proposing research by making the prototype of the stand up motorized wheelchair (SUMW) which uses the approach by Universal Design concept to accommodate the motoric disability needs and proposed as an assistive mobility device which has reasonable price, comfort in mobility, enable the users to be healthier and productive even in their disability status. As the first prototype product, the SUMW was designed by composing the existing electric motor driver of electric wheelchair and three standard actuators of patient bed with the special purpose of mechanical frame structure by using reverse engineering approach. This paper aims to descript the connection of theories to research problems, purposes, design and significance, so that it can give some visions about further researches to develop a stand up motorized wheelchair.

Multi responses optimization of plastic injection molding for biodegradable polymers using Taguchi method and TOPSIS

This study reports a simulation study to reduce the shrinkage and warpage of Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) by optimizing the injection molding parameters using the Taguchi-TOPSIS method. Solidwork software were used to creating a specimen modelling of car accessories (shark fin antenna) and then employing the infinite element software, Autodesk MoldFlow Adviser. The effect of injection parameters on the warpage and shrinkage of specimen were examined carefully. The simulation result shows that Taguchi-TOPSIS method provided an outstanding result for the optimization of injection parameters to produce minimum volumetric shrinkage. Orthogonal array design was using L9 of design experiment. The injection parameter of melt temperature was the most significant parameter that influences the warpage and volumetric shrinkage for car accessories (shark fin antenna). The results of this study indicated that the optimal level combination to get minimum shrinkage and warpage in the injection molding process are 25°C of mold temperature, 148°C of melt temperature, 0.7 s of injection time, and 8 s of cooling time. The optimum value of warpage and volumetric shrinkage rate are 0.9949 mm and 4.14 %.

Consumption, power number, and power curve characteristic of water diesel fuel emulsion mixer

Investigations have been done on the consumption of electric power in the process of water-diesel fuel emulsion mixing. The mixing process has been carried out using a mixer equipped with a 4-blade impeller. The mixer and impeller are made of aluminum material, while the impeller shaft is made of stainless steel. The mixer has a cylindrical tube shape and has a volume of 450 ml. Emulsion fuels consist of 85%v diesel fuel and 15%v water. This emulsion fuel has a density property of 858.8 kg/m3 and a dynamic viscosity of 0.0547 Pa.s. The mixing process was carried out at 2,000 rpm mixing speed up to 8,000 rpm at 1,000 rpm intervals. The mixer is connected to an electric motor and inverter, so the mixing speed of the mixer can be adjusted. In this research, data of electric current and electrical voltage are taken at each variation of mixing speed. The experimental data show that the higher the mixing speed, the higher the electric current needed. Thus, electricity consumption also is higher. The highest electrical power consumption is at 8,000 rpm mixer speed, while the lowest power consumption is at 2,000 rpm rotation. Non- dimensional power number (Np) analysis was also carried out in this study. By calculating the Reynold number (Re) and the electric power consumption at each rotation of the mixer, the power number curve (Np) is obtained. This curve is used to predict the power consumption of a mixer with the same impeller shape.

Pyrolytic thermal decomposition behavior and kinetic parameters of Tetraselmis chuii microalgae

The pyrolysis characteristic of the Tetraselmis chuii microalgae has been investigated through a thermogravimetric device. This experiment was carried out on 10 °C/min heating rate with 50 ml/min continuous nitrogen flow rate and 25-900°C temperature range. The results verified that four stages degradation processes were encountered during Tetraselmis chuii pyrolysis. During the pyrolysis process, the active region of volatile release occurs in two different stages. Degradation of carbohydrates and proteins take place in stage 2, whereas lipids are decomposed in stage 3. Analysis of kinetics parameters includes Ea (activation energy), A (pre-exponential factor), and n (reaction order) yielded the respective values of 70.68 kJ/mol, 1.72/minute, 1.22 and 223.25 kJ/mol, 11.43/minute, 2.44.

The investigation on combustion characteristic and kinetic parameters of Tetraselmis chuii microalgae was carried out under thermogravimetric analyzer. The sample of microalgae has prepared by the Center for Brackish Water Aquaculture (BBPBAP) Jepara, Indonesia. The drying out the water content in the sediment was performed by an oven at temperature 80 °C as long as 24 h. The dry sample then the crushed and followed by sieving to be mesh size of 60. The thermal decomposition of Tetraselmis chuii microalgae was investigated by a thermogravimetric apparatus, in which the 10 mg of sample was heated up in the temperatures range of 25-900 °C with an atmospheric airflow rate of 50 mL/min and a heating rate of 15 °C/min. The mass loss during temperature expansion was recorded by a computer to be a thermogravimetric (TG) graph and used to evaluate the thermal characteristic of the sample. The kinetic parameters were evaluated in the active combustion zone by the Arrhenius method, resulted in the respective values of reaction order (n), logarithmic frequency factor (log A), and activation energy (E) were 1.24, 9.0 min−1 and 101.05 kJ mol−1 for stage II, and 2.38, 33.31 min−1 and 502.88 kJ mol−1 for stage IV.

Optimal location of rail-road freight hubs: A case study

Hub facility location in this study is related with driving the traffic from origin to destination of the cargo express by finding optimal hub facilities and allocating demand node to hubs. The objective of this research is to determine the locations of hubs to allocate non-hub nodes to hubs with minimizing total cost. Total cost includes transportation costs from origin to destination, fixed costs for new hub investments, and carbon emission costs resulting from transportation activities among facilities. An approach to the capacitated multiple allocation hub location problem is presented and an integer linear programming model is developed to find the solution of this problem. This study also calculated the carbon emission level to consider environmental effects as an integration method in sustainable supply chain management applied to facility location problem. Computational analysis is conducted in order to observe the resulting hub networks. The final results of this research are the optimal locations for cargo express transfer terminals attached in a hub-and-spoke network. The results obtained PWS stations selected as hub facilities with the total required cost of IDR 758,650,360.103. The delivery of goods by train is done through the station route PWS, KT, YA, KTA, KYA, PWT, CN, BKS, JNG, and PSE.

Osteogenic differentiation from Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) to osteoblast has a clinical significance which is very important for treating bone injuries, in the form of femoral fractures with the most cases in Indonesia. Various studies have been conducted to find the best scaffold that can improve osteogenic differentiation, one of which is the development of a hybrid scaffold made from natural biomaterials in the form of the extracellular matrix, and from synthetic biomaterials. The discovery of the best scaffold is not only focused on the source of the scaffold but also requires optimization of the method in making the scaffold. Therefore, the aim of this study is to find out the optimum method for making hybrid scaffolds that support osteogenic differentiation from MSC. Materials and methods: human Fibroblast-derived Matrix (hFDM) as a hybrid scaffold material collected from decellularized fibroblasts cultures from post-cleft-surgery reconstruction palatal skin. Fibroblast cell cultures were divided into two groups of cultures, cultures without Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and cultures with the addition of PRP. For decellularization, we performed optimization at the preparation stage of the decellularization solution, and the time of culture for decellularization. In the preparation of the decellularization solution, we divided it into two groups, NH4OH as material from the decellularization solution was diluted with PBS before mixing with 0.25% Triton X-100, and NH4OH was diluted directly in 0.25% Triton X-100. In optimizing the culture time for decellularization, we divided it into three groups, decellularization on the day when cell growth reached 100% confluent, decellularization on the 3rd day after 100% confluent (H + 3) cells, and decellularization on the 4th day after 100% confluent (H + 4) cells. Tidal flooding has been a menace to the northern coastal area of Java, especially in Semarang City and Demak Regency. It happens continuously and the severity is worsened day by day. It becomes hazard for rural and urban areas hence mitigation efforts associated with coastal regions are required. Based on the situation, the present research wants to examine the need and the importance of adaptation strategy in flood prone areas. Several findings were reported and then recommended to the stakeholders to be implemented in policies and programs. The present research was conducted by using descriptive-qualitative method and purposive data sampling. The study area involved Panggung Lor in Semarang City and Sayung in Demak Regency. Analysis was carried out and conclusions were reported based on the findings. In overall, it can be concluded that these areas can adapt to tidal flooding.

Employing Galerkin method and field study for model calibration to perform sediment transport modelling in Agathis Lake, Universitas Indonesia

The increasing of urban development and the decreasing of public awareness to environment promote flood every year for urban cities. Several lakes or ponds are sacrificed due to both urban development and landfilling. Bad habit of society to throw garbage to the lakes affects the society to think that the economic value of lakes could be increased by filling them with the land. These lead to make the lakes become vulnerable to sedimentation from urban activities. Universitas Indonesia as educational institution starts to develop how to manage sedimentation by hydrodynamics and sediment transport modelling. The research uses Resources Modelling Associates (RMA) program to run the model and Agathis Lake as the study area to perform the simulation. It is expected that the program output data could represent the field data, so the validation method should be conducted. The issue to validate the data would be problematic if simulation factors data could not accommodate real-world observed data. This study aims to employ Galerkin method to understand finite element method in Resources Modelling Associates program (RMA) in order to avoid black box when using it and to conduct a field study to perform calibration method of sediment transport modelling in the study area, Agathis Lake that is located in Universitas Indonesia.

Effects of chemical treatment on the structure and morphology of bacterial cellulose film

Development of extraction process of Bacterial Cellulose (BC) using chemical treatment in order to be developed as reinforcement in the composite product to improve fiber compatibility of BC in polymer metric. This study aimed to know the effect of chemical treatment against the structure and morphology of BC film. The methods used to make a film from BC fiber obtained from pineapples’ peels waste. Pellicle was fermented for 14 days then washed by distilled water prior to treatment. Pellicle soaked in a chemical solution such as NaOH, H2O2, Bmimcl with each concentration of 2.5% for 2 hours then dried in the oven and the result was analyzed using SEM and XRD. The result showed that chemical treatment against BC decreased the intensity and crystallite size. On distilled water immersion (as control), the highest peak diffraction located in peak 22.63 °2θ with intensity of 292.31 counts, the crystallite size of 10.01 nm, after NaOH, H2O2 and BmimCl chemical treatment, the peak intensity decreased consecutively to 251.19 counts, 269.32 counts, and 241.49 counts as well as crystallite size decrease to 3.61 nm, 4.07 nm, and 5.11 nm, respectively. SEM observation showed that BC film treated using distilled water wasn’t damaged, while fiber and pellicle which treated using NaOH had a lot of damage.
