Production and decolorization of lignin from industrial waste of pulp and paper based on the coagulation method using poly aluminium chloride

Pulp and paper industrial waste or what is known as black liquor contains toxic contents, if not treated first, it can cause environmental pollution. So far, black liquor has only been used for the manufacture of biofuels and fuel for the paper industry, while 46% of lignin is the total solids in the black liquor component itself. This study aims to determine how much the percentage of decolorization of black liquor and producing lignin with bright colors using the coagulation method. The coagulant used in this study was Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) with various concentrations (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%) v / v. The results showed that the coagulation method proved effective in decolorizing lignin made from black liquor as raw material. The optimum condition to obtain decolorization was 90.44% using 2% PAC coagulant concentration and the total retention time of 24 hours. In addition, FTIR was used to qualitatively analyze the sludge produced during the coagulation process, and the results showed that there are several different groups in the lignin unit. The lignin obtained using the coagulation method produces a brighter brown color, is insoluble in water and odorless with a yield of 38.3%, a pH of 1.68, a purity of 54.8%, and water content and an ash content of 0.2% and 27.2%, respectively.

Developing green manufacturing indicators for the decorative paint industry: A case study of Indonesia

The development of the paint industry in Indonesia is currently quite rapid which has a good impact on the Indonesian economy. On the other hand, the paint industry is also required to produce paint products that are increasingly environmentally friendly to reduce the adverse effects on the environment along the supply chain. Currently, Indonesia does not have guidance regarding green manufacturing in the paint industry. The purpose of this study is to develop green manufacturing indicators in the case of the Indonesian decorative paint industry. Determination of the basic indicators of green manufacturing adopted from OECD sustainable development toolkit 18 indicators. The selection of relevant indicators adopted at the decorative paint industry is done by using the method of Delphi. The experts who were involved in the selection process indicator green manufacturing decorative paint industry is a stakeholder who have competence and experience in the paint industry supply chain. The results showed that from the 18 initial indicators 12 indicators were agreed by experts with a minimum agreement value of 83 percent.

Public Safety Decision-Making in the Context of Smart and Sustainable Cities

Prominent urbanization forces governments to rethink their management processes, incorporate new technologies and ensure quality of life through practices aligned with the concepts of smart and sustainable cities. With a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with commanders of two local police departments, this study investigated information orientation in the strategic decision-making process in the area of public safety in a small Brazilian city. The police departments have a limited ICT infrastructure to support the strategic decision-making process because their information systems are not connected. The results show that although the city of Pato Branco (Brazil) is considered a smart city in the area of public security, there are limited resources in several aspects of the police departments for the effective management of their ICT infrastructures. The impact of resource constraints reflects throughout the entire information use lifecycle - identification, collection, organization, processing, etc. - which fuels the strategic decision-making process. The implantation of an operations center could significantly reduce the effects of the problems identified in this research and further research may reveal the operational, technical, economic and financial viability of this proposal.

Tsunami simulation in Puger Beach considering the combination of earthquake source in South Java

Tsunami occurred on June 3, 1994, as a result of the earthquake in Banyuwangi at 10,477° South Latitude and 112,835° East Longitude with magnitude 7.2 SR. Tsunami in Banyuwangi causes 122 victims, 15 missing persons, 450 houses completely ruined, over 250 heavily damaged in Pancer village and 6 fishermen disappear. In 2006, The Pangandaran Tsunami also attacked coastal area in South Java. This study aims to model tsunami in Puger Beach using Delft3D with the combination of earthquake source characteristics in South Java. Bathymetry data and topography were taken from The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO). Delft3D Dashboard was utilized as a first step to create a model domain and simulation grid. Bathymetric interpolation to the simulation grid and initial surface elevation were also created from earthquake fault parameters using Delft3D Dashboard. After setting parameters, numerical simulation was carried out using Delft3D-FLOW. To conduct model validation, the data observation of the 1994 Banyuwangi tsunami from the previous research was utilized. The locations used for validation in this study were Cape Pelindu, Puger and Watu Ulo Beaches with the maximum water level 3.2 m, 4.88 m - 5.85 m and 6.5 m - 7.5 m, respectively. Simulations were divided into three scenarios. Scenario 1 was a simulation of the 1994 Banyuwangi tsunami. Scenario 2 was a simulation to represent the characteristic of fault from The 2006 Pangandaran Earthquake in Puger Beach. Scenario 3 was a combination between Scenario 1 and Scenario 2 which represented tectonic plate fault simulation. Based on the results of the simulation 3, the time of maximum tsunami height reached the study area at the 40 minutes and back to normal at 170 minutes. The greatest impact was created from Scenario 3 with tsunami heights of 10.91 meters to 22.34 meters.

Response time can be considered as a crucial indicator in research involving transport. This indicator usually appears associated with SCM, integrating processes related to the product design and its consequent delivery as part of operations management. This concept may be adequate for the management of EMS operations: response time is defined as the interval between receiving a telephone call at an EMS agency and the arrival of an ambulance and a team at the location of an incident and is a valid indicator for evaluating the effectiveness of the EMS. The objective of this study was to analyze the response time in the EMS called SAMU 192 Southwest of Paraná, a Brazilian EMS agency. From the concepts provided by the literature, this research was able to identify limitations in the internal processes, ICT structure and information quality that must support decision making for ambulance dispatch in SAMU 192 Southwest of Paraná. This set of constraints compromises not only the time taken to respond to emergency calls, but the responsiveness of the EMS as a whole. Further research should be conducted following the steps described in detail in the methodology. Thus, it is a work in progress and presents the perspective for additional research.

Growth kinetic of Botryococcus braunii microalgae using logistic and gompertz models

Botryococcus braunii is one of microalgae species that has potential in many aspects such as energy, food, medical, etc, due to its high content hydrocarbon, especially lipid. To find optimum condition for harvesting the Botryococcus braunii, some mathematical models are needed to study its growth profile. In this research, there will be two growth models that will be used, namely the Logistic and Gompertz models. The cultivation was carried out in medium which consists of a distillate water inoculum ratio of 1:1 in simple flask photobioreactor. Walne medium which contained 50 % NaNO3, 10 % NaH2PO4, 22 % Na2EDTA, 0.18 % MnCl2, and 0.82 FeCl3 was utilized as nutrient. In this experiment, the measurement of microalgae density cells was done using haemacytometer. The obtained data were then fit Logistic and Gompertz model. The sum of the square of residual between the cells density data experiment and data from each of models was used to evaluate the most representative model. Based on the study, the Logistic model was found to produce a lower error for the growth rate curve of Botryococcus braunii. Growth parameters based on Logistic model for the cultivation of Botryococcus braunii consists of µmax= 0.7493/ (day) and Xmax 1.2647x104 (cells/ml), while in Gompertz model consists of cells productivity (rm)=2.907 x 104 (cells/ml day) and lag time (tL)=1 (day).

One of the changes in Bank Indonesia (BI) policy Number 20/8/PBI/2018 (PBI, 2018) regulates the Loan to Value (LTV) ratio for a residential property loan. This research examines changes in housing developer behavior in providing the housing products before and after the loan to value ratio (LTV) easing policy. The changes in the Bank Indonesia policy to release the loan to value ratio for the purchase of the first house with an area of more than seventy square meters is one of the government's solution to encourage the growth of housing property. This issue is due to the difficulty of the first-time home buyer in paying the down payment. The design of this research uses a case study of multiple case holistic designs and uses a qualitative analysis method. Qualitative data were obtained from in-depth interviews with nine housing developers. We found that most developers are willing to change their market segmentation to a lower segment (36 household type) than the previous ones that they have set. We concluded that the LTV ratio easing policy cannot help many developers if the macroeconomic conditions are still weak.

Analysis of working posture on musculoskeletal disorders of vocational garment student’s in garment assembly operations practice

Garment assembly operation practice is one of the courses in the garment study program. It is a process of learning to sew components into apparel use a single needle sewing machine. The existing sewing machine has fix height at the table and the chair which is not base from the ergonomic aspects on working posture. Incompatibility of working posture will lead the student to obtain a variety of muscle and bone disorders. In this study, 11 students are measured of work postures by RULA scores, while the fatigue level was measured use Nordic Body Map Questionnaire. The results showed that students have complained of pain in back, buttocks, waist and nape of the neck. The RULA scores showed that there awkward work posture. It is indicated that the working posture in the garment assembly operation practice needs to change.

The number of motoric disabled people in mobility is high. Motoric disability inhibits necessity to maximize one’s potential and working on it has numerous great benefits such as transporting to other places, doing the job, exercises or health recovery. They need appropriate assistive devices as power wheelchair models to assist their daily activity. However, they have many barriers to access them such as the price and availability of the device, and possible solutions in technology is needed especially in developing country like Indonesia. One possible solution is to reduce the owning cost of the assistive device, it is by proposing research by making the prototype of the stand up motorized wheelchair (SUMW) which uses the approach by Universal Design concept to accommodate the motoric disability needs and proposed as an assistive mobility device which has reasonable price, comfort in mobility, enable the users to be healthier and productive even in their disability status. As the first prototype product, the SUMW was designed by composing the existing electric motor driver of electric wheelchair and three standard actuators of patient bed with the special purpose of mechanical frame structure by using reverse engineering approach. This paper aims to descript the connection of theories to research problems, purposes, design and significance, so that it can give some visions about further researches to develop a stand up motorized wheelchair.

The accuracy of the F statistic for structural health monitoring

Understanding the reliability of engineering methods is crucial for its adoption and deployment. This research focuses on the reliability of the Power Spectral Density (PSD) method via the use of the F statistic for damage detection. To the author best knowledge, the method is rather classic but its realibility has not been discussed in the context of a large data size. Priory, the research anticipates that the accuracy is a function of the damage level. In this study, we evaluate 3500 cases with five levels of structural integrity, namely, healthy condition and damaged conditions with 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20% damage levels. The dataset is established via a numerical analysis of a seven degree-of-freedom system loaded with a concentrated dynamic force with random magnitude. A spring on the system is reduced in its stiffness to simulate damages. Our significant findings are the following: it is challenging for the PSD-based method to differentiate the healthy condition from the damaged conditions when the damage level is small. However, the reliability is high at 95% probability when the structural integrity has dropped by five percent.
