Compared with fossil fuel vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) maintain obvious and profound significance for the less city pollutant and operation noise. Moreover, EVs can benefit operation of the powersystems via friendly feeding back the energy stored in the EV batteries into the grids when needed. The related research about charging of batteries for EVs has been extensively developed, which is one of the main issues for the application of EVs. This paper focuses on the cooperation between the battery demand and the supply curve problems, when the charging of EV is operated in the swapping way. Firstly, the concept of the swapping battery requirement (SBR) adequacy is presented, and then the corresponding mathematical model is established and the algorithm based on the Monte Carlo method is proposed. In addition, some critical factors which have great influence on the SBR and reserved fully charged battery (RFCB) curves are demonstrated, such as EVs driving cycle, battery capacity, average energy-consuming level and charging time. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed method.

lEC 61850 “Communication networks and systems in substation” is not only the most advanced and universal standard for communication but also a comprehensive system oriented standard for substation automation system (SAS). This paper proposes a transmission solution for communication scheme which combines Multicast Sampled Value (MSV) and Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) information in one network (Transmit MSV and GOOSE simultaneously with a network transmission line). MSV and GOOSE are described detail in the next context, and then the traffic flow and the delay of the two messages are estimated respectively. In this article, transmission performance tests based on the architecture of a single network are designed and implemented. The single event and multi-event tests show that the latency of the packets is quite small and the real-time performance satisfies the requirement of the intelligent substation.

Because of the energy shortage, air pollution and greenhouse gas over mission, the plug-in electric vehicles can be looked as the alternative of the current fossil fuels vehicles. But PHEVs charging brings out the serious problem to the powersystems security operation. Smart grid, with its flexible operation ways, is likely to solve this problem. This paper discusses the relationship between the smart grid and the PHEVs charging load. Then introduce the PHEVs influence on the powersystem based its different operation model. The third part presents the coordinated charging schedule model and in the last part, some core technologies to construct the communication net are also discussed.

Smart Grid is aimed to incorporate monitoring, analysis, control and communication capabilities to improve reliability and energy efficiency. However, currently there is no enough sensor to provide information interface for the implementation of smart grid. Therefore, new types of sensors should be deployed to assist the implementation of smart grid. This paper proposes a novel scheme, in which new type of fiber optic sensors (as compared with traditional Farady effect based fiber optic sensor used in powersystem instrumentation) are used to provide multiple types of information for smart grid. The new Fiber Bragg Gratting (FBG) is advantageous in that it can collect variant types of information and can form a sensor network. A transmission line monitoring system with distributed fiber optic senor network is designed, and the procedures to evaluate the status of the overhead transmission line (such as sag, vibration, and galloping) are proposed. A testing setup is built at laboratory, and it is shown that the FBG sensor is capable of obtaining the comprehensive information for evaluating the status of the overhead transmission line.

Voltage vulnerability has been important in powersystem security research. Considering the characteristic that the voltage are mainly influenced by the reactive power, the potential energy margin which can embody the impacts from the reactive load, the reactive output of generator, the reactive compensation, and so on, was proposed as the benchmark, and then, the degree index and the trend index of voltage vulnerability were derived, the impacts of grid topology and the reactive power inject ingredients on the voltage vulnerability were discussed. On this base, the assessment index of branch vulnerability was proposed to compute the distance of the current value of branch transmission to the initial value and ascertain the vulnerable area. In IEEE-30bus system, the feasibility and exactness of this method are identified by the simulation.
