The torque performance of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) has been widely concerned and studied for many years. This article focuses on the structure design and optimization of the IPMSM in the aircraft drive system, and aiming to improve the torque density and reduce the torque ripple. Firstly, the original structure of the IPMSM is given. And then, a fractional slot winding and Δ-type rotor magnetic pole topology are proposed as the optimized IPMSM structure in this article. In addition, the comparison of the original and optimized structure is studied by the simulation. Finally, the performance of an optimized prototype is analyzed by experimental test, and the validity of the design optimization method for proposed IPMSM structure is verified. © 2023 IEEE.

Rising energy prices and depletion of fossil fuel seriously affect the comfort of energy consumers. The integration of renewable energy resources with the legacy system is a striking solution to mitigate such problems, especially for developing countries. For this purpose, an IoT based university campus is taken as a case study, which comprised of dispatchable and non-dispatchable energy sources along with a battery bank. Different case studies have been carried out to the analytic assessment of the proposed system. The conventional campus can consume energy from the utility grid, while the prosumer microgrid can exchange the power with the utility grid considering the price-based demand response and environmeatal concern. For the analysis, advanced linear programming is used as a solution technique in MATLAB software. The obtained results using the demand response scheme reduced the energy cost by 20.5 % that shows the efficiency of the proposed model. Furthermore, the comparison with the existing work also shows the significance of the proposed linear campus model. © 2021 IEEE.

As the key power part of the linear compressor, the linear oscillatory machine (LOM) has been paid more attention by both academia and industry recently for its compact size, high efficiency, low vibration, etc. In practice, the efficiency of LOM is significantly impacted by the changes in load parameters, of which the best working point can be tracked by the resonant frequency tracking control. However, the traditional resonant frequency tracking control with the idea of stroke-current phase suffers some serious problems, like slow tracking speed, low accuracy, large current peak during starting, fluctuate amplitude of piston, and so on. In this paper, a Kalman filter for the mechanical system of LOM is proposed, which avoids the impact of environmental noise and obtains the observed values of load parameters. On this basis, a parameter correction scheme based on gradient descent method is proposed. By calculating the corresponding gradient matrix, iterative adjustment and correction of the covariance matrix in the Kalman filter are realized. The combination of the two realizes the load parameter prediction of the LOM, and on this basis, completes the frequency control of the LOM. Comprehensive simulation results have fully demonstrated the advantages of proposed control strategy compared to those of traditional methods.

Neural networks and optimization algorithms have great potential application in the physical analysis and design of optical components due to their high speed and high efficiency. Taking terahertz (THz) one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal (PC) resonant cavity as an example, a neural network is proposed to predict the fundamental parameters of the PC cavity with high accuracy. However, the neural network alone suffers from low accuracy in the process of reverse prediction. In combination with a multi-objective optimization algorithm, the reverse prediction of the PC cavity is realized with high accuracy.

The VSC-HVDC (Voltage Source Converter based High Voltage Direct Current Transmission) traveling wave protection, relying on single-end information, has a limited ability to identify boundary faults. To improve this problem, two fault information supplement strategies are suggested. According to the bipolar symmetry of the fault traveling wave, the measurement of one pole is supplemented by that of the other. According to the reactor characteristics, i.e., the proportional relationship between the voltage and the current change rate of the DC (Direct Current) reactor, the voltage measurement is further supplemented. The VSC-HVDC traveling wave protection based on the fault information supplement strategies is proposed. The sensitivity for identifying the high-resistance boundary fault is significantly improved. The protection performance and applicability are validated on the four-terminal VSC-HVDC simulation model based on PSCAD/EMTDC. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The complex refractive index for optically thick low-loss materials is conventionally extracted via iterative algorithm based on the transmission-mode terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Without assigning initial values, a new approach based on the neural network was investigated to obtain the optical parameters for three typical materials (TPX, quartz and SiC) in the THz frequency range. Comparisons with the iterative method were conducted. The neural network method is also expected to find applications in characterization of the two-dimensional material (like graphene) and the multilayer material system.

Connecting multiple insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) in series is the most direct and effective way to meet the voltage rating requirements of high power and high voltage converters, but there is severe voltage imbalance during the switching process of series-connected IGBTs. The active clamping circuit has been widely used for its simple structure and high reliability for voltage balancing of series-connected IGBTs. Based on the existing research, this paper presents an improved parameter design scheme for the active clamping circuit. Through theoretical analysis and experiments, it’s verified that the active clamping circuit using the proposed parameter design method can achieve static voltage balancing without additional power-side static voltage balancing resistance, and the influence of clamping circuit parameters on voltage balancing effect and IGBTs switching loss is also discussed. The work of this paper provides suggestions for the design and selection of appropriate active clamping circuit parameters in practical applications.

The liquid metal battery is a new energy storage technology that is gaining increasing attention due to its high safety and long life. Accurate capacity estimation is crucial for health diagnosis and pack management, providing a strong guarantee of long-term stable operation for energy systems. However, owing to the lack of aging analysis traditional methods are difficult to improve the precision in the situation of unpredictable disturbances or fluctuations, such as capacity plunge. This paper proposes a capacity estimation method based on aging features by combining machine learning and filter algorithms, this method can provide an accurate prediction even the LMB is subject to capacity plunge. First, the aging features are extracted using only a tenth of the whole information from the discharge curve and increment capacity (IC) curve. Next, the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network is employed to establish the state-space representation between the aging feature and the capacity. The particle filter (PF) is then combined with the state-space representation to predict the capacity. Finally, aging tests are conducted to validate the precision and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid method. These results show that the proposed method can provide robustness as well as accurate capacity prediction.

The toroidal D-shaped high-temperature super-conducting (HTS) magnet structure offers several advantages, such as low leakage magnetic field and vertical magnetic field on the tapes, and excellent mechanical properties characterized by pure tensile electromagnetic stress. As a result, it finds wide application in large-scale magnetic, including superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) and magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) devices. However, the highly asymmetric three-dimensional structure impose challenges in numerical modeling and electromagnetic computations, leading to difficulties in modeling, low computational efficiency, and even computational infeasibility. The "dimension reduction inversion" method is an innovative approach for electromagnetic calculations in toroidal magnets. this paper improved upon this method and applied it to the toroidal D-shaped structure, specifically calculating the electromagnetic field and AC loss of 30MJ/5MW liquid hydrogen superconducting composite energy storage (LIQHYSMES) magnet. This research provides a feasible approach for electromagnetic computations in large-scale toroidal D-shaped HTS magnets.

Whether epoxy resin is degraded or not in composite insulators is the most direct criterion to distinguish Decay-like fracture from brittle fracture and normally mechanical fracture. During the actual operation of composite insulators, the nitric acid produced by partial discharge and abnormal heating will accelerate the degradation and deterioration of epoxy resin of composite insulators. In this paper, the experimental platform under acid-heat condition is built by using heating furnace, grinding bottle and serpentine condensation tube, and the acid-heat deterioration experiments are carried out under 60 °C (3 mol/L and 5 mol/L) and 80 °C (3 mol/L and 5 mol/L) condition. The macroscopic and microscopic morphologies of epoxy resin after acid-heat deterioration are analyzed, and the morphology changes of epoxy resin under the influence of acid-heat coupling field are studied. Firstly, it is concluded that the epoxy resin changes directly from colorless to light yellow, and then from light yellow to dark yellow under the influence of acid-heat deterioration. In addition, in the early stage of deterioration, the bulge on the surface of epoxy resin decreases gradually. Meanwhile, the maximum height difference and standard deviation of the surface profile of epoxy resin also gradually decreases, and the roughness decreases. In the later stage of deterioration, cracks appear on the surface of epoxy resin and some epoxy resins fall off. At the same time, the maximum height difference and standard deviation of surface profile of epoxy resin increases. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
