On-chip polarization controllers are extremely important for various optical *** this paper,a compact and robust silicon-based on-chip polarization controller is proposed and demonstrated by integrating a special polarization converter and phase *** special polarization converter consists of a 1×1 Mach–Zehnder interferometer with two polarization-dependent mode converters at the input/output *** light with an arbitrary state of polarization(SOP)is launched into the chip,the TE_(0)and TM_(0)modes are simultaneously *** polarization extinction ratio(PER)and the phase difference for the TE_(0)∕TM_(0)modes are tuned by controlling the first phase shifter,the polarization converter,and the second phase *** a result,one can reconstruct the light SOP at the output *** fabricated polarization controller,as compact as~150μm×700μm,exhibits an excess loss of less than 1 dB and a record PER range of>54 dB for arbitrary input light beams in the wavelength range of 1530–1620 nm.

As an important energy storage technology, lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various industrial fields, effectively alleviating the pressure of energy transition and environmental pollution. In order to ensure the safe and efficient long-term service of lithium-ion batteries, it is particularly important to accurately estimate the remaining useful life (RUL). In this paper, a novel method based on stacking model is proposed for predicting the RUL of lithium-ion batteries. Firstly, multiple health features are extracted from capacity, voltage curve, and capacity-voltage curve. Then their correlations with RUL are analyzed using state of Health (SOH), current charging time, discharge time to 3.8v, discharge time to 3.35v, discharge time in the voltage range of 3.35v-3.8v and voltage at the turning point of the charging capacity-voltage curve of lithium-ion batteries. Next, a stacking model including gradient boosting decision tree, support vector regression, random forest and multiple linear regression is constructed. Finally, to validate the accuracy of the proposed method, it is applied to batteries from the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) dataset, and compared with the performance of individual model. The results show that the RUL prediction error of the proposed method is only 11.3, which has a high accuracy.

Wuhan Photon Source (WHPS) utilizes the on-axis swap-out injection scheme in the low-energy storage ring for its small dynamic aperture feature. Traveling-wave stripline kickers for nanosecond injection and extraction have been employed to satisfy the time requirements of the injection system. This paper analyses the injection process and designs a stripline kicker for the WHPS low-energy storage ring. However, Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) simulation points out that impedance mismatching occurs around the feedthrough-electrode connection, which may deteriorate the deflection field and decrease the injection efficiency. Thus, we optimized the connection to improve the impedance matching. TDR, field homogeneity, and reflection parameter simulation were performed to optimize the performance of the stripline kickers. © 2022 IEEE.

The development and application of V2O3-based negative materials are hindered by their poor reversible capacity and rate performance. Doping F and combined with N-doped carbon at the same time would achieve excellent electrochemical performance, but the related materials are not prepared and employed to lithium-ion batteries due to the absent synthetic method. In this investigation, a simple strategy is firstly invented to achieve F-doped V2O3/N-doped carbon composite. The F-doped V2O3 nanoparticles are adhered to N-doped carbon, which would enhance electrochemical reaction kinetics. As a result, a high capacity of 481 mAh g-1 can be obtained at 2 A g-1. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Electron-Beam Treatment of a Real Hair Dye Wastewater: Degradation of Target Pollutants and Quantitative Assessment of Competition from Coexisting Compounds

Since the globally extensive production and consumption of hair dyes, the accompanying water pollution has been threatening human health and aquatic ecosystems currently. Gaining knowledge on the presence of compounds in real hair dye wastewater and developing efficient treatment are emerging issues. In recent years, water treatment by electron beam irradiation has attracted increasing attention as a powerful and economic technology for the destruction of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs). This paper studies the EB irradiation of a real hair dye industrial wastewater. The compositional analysis of the wastewater was made to identify the main components. In order to investigate the influence of coexisting background components on the degradation of target pollutants (four dyestuff intermediates) and to evaluate the interaction between different targets, the irradiation treatment was carried out under three matrices conditions (single solution, mixed solution and industrial wastewater). Quantitative assessment of the competing effects of non-target components and the selectivity of reactive species is performed.·OH and ·O2- are identified as the dominant reactive species involved, but show much lower selectivity toward the targets than reducing radicals (eaq- and ·H). The main breakdown products of the target pollutants are quinones, diphenols and carboxylic acids. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Regulating the Space Charge at Interface by Negative Polar Biomolecule Enabling Ultrastable Zn Anode Chemistry

The irreversibility of Zn metal anode arising from uncontrollable dendrite growth and hydrogen evolution reaction, especially at high current densities, has challenged the commercialization application of aqueous Zn-ion batteries. Here we report biomolecule additive, named xanthan gum, to solve these issues through making use of dissociated -COO- groups to reduce space charge near the anode-electrolyte interface and form H2O-poor electrical double layer to regulate the Zn deposition behaviors. Meanwhile, the dissolved xanthan gum with multiple polar groups can break the association between H2O and Zn2+ to reconstruct solvated structures of Zn ions to suppress HER. Therefore, the Zn//Zn symmetric cells in ZnSO4 electrolyte with xanthan gum deliver an ultra-long cycle life (>4700 h), and also present excellent cycling performances in other electrolyte (Zn(OAc)2 and Zn(OTf)2). More importantly, a high coulombic efficiency of 99.7% is achieved using Zn//Cu half cells tested and excellent cycling life for KVO//Zn full cells. This work provides the guidance to design the electrolyte additive for highly reversible Zn metal batteries. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Ultrafast electron diffraction using photocathode microwave electron guns is a powerful tool for investigating ultrafast science. To improve the spatial and temporal resolution of diffraction, it is crucial to enhance the quality of the electron beam, particularly the initial quality of the electron beam emitted from the photocathode that is influenced by the driving laser. To meet the strict requirements, the performance parameters of the femtosecond laser transmission system play a significant role. In this paper, we analyze the impact of femtosecond laser system parameters on diffraction resolution and investigate the primary indicators of the femtosecond laser system. We conducted experiments to measure the primary parameters of the laser, including pointing stability, beam diameter, pulse width, and pulse energy. Based on the experimental results and considering the complexity of engineering implementation, we proposed an optical scheme for the femtosecond laser transmission path to satisfy the requirements of the ultrafast electron diffraction device for further improving the diffraction resolution. This research aims to provide valuable insights into optimizing the femtosecond laser system for ultrafast electron diffraction experiments. © 2023 SPIE.

The goal of optimal dynamic topology evolution is to establish a distribution network which accommodates a high penetration of renewable energy with least cost. In this paper, the evolution process is formulated as a bi-level optimization model. The upper-level model optimizes the location and size of renewable distributed generation (RDG) as well as flexible resources and aims to minimize the total cost of evolution. Besides, out of simplification, the upper-level model discretizes the continues evolution process into several stages and becomes an integer programming solved by an improved genetic algorithm (GA). The lower-level model is a linear programming after the linearization of nonconvex constraints and minimizes the operation cost of the distribution system. In order to handle the uncertainty in distribution system, an hourly simulation is performed in the lower-level model which is solved by SeDuMi. Finally, the model is applied to a 13-bus distribution network to show its effectiveness. © 2021 IEEE.

The growing integration of information and communication technology exposes more exploitable cyber-attack vectors to electric power systems. Measurement manipulation is an impactive type of cyber-attacks that can be launched to cause massive damages by interfering decision-making of control centers. Existing data-driven measurement manipulation detection models often bear criticisms due to the deficient mining of spatial-temporal correlations. In this paper, based on the Gramian Angular Summation Field (GASF) algorithm, various types of phasor time-series measured at different locations are transformed into a series of generalized multichannel images. From these generalized images, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are trained to discover suspicious patterns. GASF can visualize the temporal features of a single time-series and facilitate collaborative CNNs to figure out spatial-temporal correlations between different measurements. The improvements of the proposed framework in the detection performance are demonstrated through case studies. © 2021 IEEE.
