This paper aims to address the issue of planning dual-arm motions in scenarios involving tracking dynamic desired pose and obstacle avoidance. In situations where dual-arm motion requires synchronous behavior, inflexible planning, encountering obstacles, and beyond-the-arm motion capability may lead to task failure. To overcome these issues, we propose a dynamic-system-based method for dual-arm collaborative planning. The method can coordinate the motions of dual arms while keeping synchronous behavior in tracking the moving target and avoiding obstacles. Meanwhile, we incorporate the reachability by modeling the motion boundary to ensure that the arms moving within the reachable space. The experiment successfully verified the above scenarios, showcasing its adaptability in dual-arm planning and its potential applicability in dual-arm applications such as transportation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

Surgical smoke can obscure the surgeon's line of sight during the laparoscopic procedure, potentially posing risk to the patients. Robot assisted-minimally invasive surgery (MIS) also faces such a challenge, which also hinders its autonomous operation. This paper proposes a desmoking method for laparoscopic surgery smoke removal. As the surgical smoke is hetergeneous, a two-stage network is developed to estimate the smoke distribution and reconstruct the corresponding smoke-free scene with the hybrid embedding guidance, including the estimated smoke mask and the initial image. The network is designed following the concept of the atmospheric scattering model, which makes the network more explainable. To qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the proposed method, a synthetic laparoscopic dataset is generated and a real laparoscopic dataset is obtained. Experimental results show that the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) of the proposed method is 1.9% higher than that of the DehazeFormer, while the run-time is shorter more than 40.9%. The proposed method is comparable to or even outperforms the state-of-the-arts in desmoking quality and computation cost. © 2024 IEEE.

Medical image is essential for physicians to diagnose diseases. And convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have gained momentum for computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) medical image. However, there are still challenges in CNNs related to a lack of data and class-imbalanced datasets. Data augmentation is utilized to address the issues mentioned above. In this study, the Pseudo-color enhancement algorithm (OCEAN and TWILIGHT), common linear transform, CLAHE enhancement, and K-means clustering algorithm were applied to pneumonia X-ray images for data augmentation. Thus, five processed datasets were finally obtained. The results indicated that five data-augmentation methods effectively improved the performance of CNNs for the pneumonia X-ray images binary classification detection, in which the CLAHE enhancement and OCEAN enhancement methods had the accuracy and F1 Score with 97.42%, 97.19%, and 97.42%, 98.36%, respectively. DenseNet121 showed the best classification performance of four CNNs utilized in this study, as evidenced by the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUC). To verify the generalizability of the two enhancement methods, CLAHE and OCEAN enhancement methods were applied to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) dataset of Alzheimer's disease, which had the accuracy and F1 Score with 98.15% , 98.15%, and 97.22%, 97.68%, respectively. Therefore, these simple and efficient data-augmentation methods effectively improve the performance of CNNs for diagnosing medical image, which can provide theoretical reference for physicians to diagnose the above two diseases, and advance the application of clinical medicine. © 2023 IEEE.

Although IPM motor with 1/2 slot per phase per pole has a relatively less rotor loss in comparison with other fractional slot concentrated winding (FSCW), the problems of THD of back-EMF and cogging torque are worse, which limits its application in electric vehicles and other industry fields. This paper proposes an effective rotor-shape optimization method to suppress both THD of back-EMF and cogging torque for improving torque ripple problem. Different from the prevalent rotor optimization methods, the proposed rotor-shape optimization method associates both shape function optimization of rotor surface with PM shaping, which can effectively decrease optimization parameters, and enhance optimization efficiency. To clarify the optimization strategy, the back-EMF and cogging torque for this PM motor with 1/2 slot per phase per pole are analyzed firstly. Then, the proposed optimization method is presented in detail. Finally, the optimized IPM motor is prototyped and its experimental results verifies the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method. © 2023 IEEE.

Elucidating the complex interactions between the work material and abrasives during grinding of gallium nitride(GaN)single crystals is an active and challenging research *** this study,molecular dynamics simulations were performed on double-grits interacted grinding of GaN crystals;and the grinding force,coefficient of friction,stress distribution,plastic damage behaviors,and abrasive damage were systematically *** results demonstrated that the interacted distance in both radial and transverse directions achieved better grinding quality than that in only one *** grinding force,grinding induced stress,subsurface damage depth,and abrasive wear increase as the transverse interacted distance ***,there was no clear correlation between the interaction distance and the number of atoms in the phase transition and dislocation *** interacted distances between abrasives can decrease grinding force,coefficient of friction,grinding induced stress,subsurface damage depth,and abrasive wear during the grinding *** results of grinding tests combined with cross-sectional transmission electron micrographs validated the simulated damage results,*** atoms,high-pressure phase transition,dislocations,stacking faults,and lattice *** results of this study will deepen our understanding of damage accumulation and material removal resulting from coupling between abrasives during grinding and can be used to develop a feasible approach to the wheel design of ordered abrasives.

As a neuromodulation technology, ultrasound stimulation exhibits great potential due to its non-invasive and targeted nature. Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (LIFU) allows for precise targeting of the peripheral nervous system, enabling the elicitation of diverse sensations in the human body, including tactile, cold, heat, and pain. Current research efforts predominantly focus on ultrasound stimulation of the upper limbs, specifically the fingers. However, there is a paucity of investigation pertaining to the stimulation of the peripheral nervous system in the lower limb of the human body. Furthermore, the utilization of a singularly focused transducer for stimulation introduces anisotropy, thereby rendering it challenging to enhance the axial resolution. This study aims to explore an innovative approach using dual transducers that synergistically focus ultrasound to achieve highly precise stimulation and reduce the disparity between axial and lateral resolution. The primary objective is to investigate the feasibility of utilizing this approach for deep muscle stimulation in the human calf muscles, thus delving into the realm of lower limb neuromodulation. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent decades, origami has transitioned from a traditional art form into a systematic field of scientific inquiry, characterized by attributes such as high foldability, lightweight frameworks, diverse deformation modes, and limited degrees-of-freedom. Despite the abundant literature on smart materials, actuation methods, design principles, and manufacturing techniques, comprehensive reviews focusing on the mechanical properties of origami-inspired structures are relatively rare and unsystematic. This review aims to fill this void by analyzing and summarizing the significant studies conducted on the mechanical properties of origami-inspired structures from 2013 to 2023. We begin with an overview that includes essential definitions of origami, classical origami patterns, and their associated tessellated or stacked structures. Following this, we delve into the principal dynamic modeling method for origami and conduct an in-depth analysis of the key mechanical properties of origami-inspired structures. These properties include tunable stiffness, bistability and multistability, metamechanical properties demonstrated by origami-based metamaterials, and bio-inspired mechanical properties. Finally, we conclude with a comprehensive summary that discusses the current challenges and future directions in the field of origami-inspired structures. Our review provides a thorough synthesis of both the mechanical properties and practical applications of origami-inspired structures, aiming to serve as a reference and stimulate further research. © 2025 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In traditional human-machine interface research, a single sensing mode is often adopted, focusing on individual human motion classification experiments. However, the performance often declines when applied across individuals. Ultrasonic and inertial sensing, as mainstream technologies in human-machine interfaces, can respectively detect the muscle states and limb information of the human body, offering potential complementary benefits. The fusion of ultrasonic(US) and Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU) is expected to significantly enhance the generalization ability of physiological signals in motion intention recognition. This paper presents a method that employs fusion of ultrasound and IMU signals, and designs a Convolutional Neural Network with Channel Attention Module (IU-CAM-CNN) for gait classification experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that by introducing channel attention modules, the model's ability to extract features from fused signals can be effectively enhanced, resulting in a classification accuracy of 90% for cross-individual movements. In contrast, traditional LDA and CNN networks achieve only 22% and 47% classification accuracy, respectively. This method provides an effective solution for cross-individual movement intention recognition. © 2024 IEEE.
