Detection of building slope and land subsidence using ultrasonic HC-SR04 sensors based Arduino Uno R3 and Blynk

This study aims to build and test prototypes of building slope and land subsidence based on Internet of Things (IoT) using ultrasonic HC-SR04 sensors and data delivery testing uses ESP8266-01 wifi module. The devices used in this study are ultrasonic HC-SR04 sensors, Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller, ESP8266-01 wifi module, led indicator, resistor, jumper cable and power supply. The measurement of building slope done by placing sensors next the building and to detect distance between the building and sensors. After then converted into a slope angle using trigonometric equations, to measure the land subsidence the ultrasonic sensors were attached in the edge of building in some height, facing to the ground. These ultrasonic sensors were used to detect any land subsidence that occur around the building. The experiment indicated that design monitoring prototypes system successfully displayed what sensor had read translated Arduino Uno and display it into serial monitor on Arduino IDE, and Blynk. Result of building slope an showed that correlation coefficient manually calculated of 0,999, accuracy value between sensor reading and comparison tool is 99.2% and precision value of 96.4% from 15 times data retrieval. And result of land subsidence showed correlation coefficient manually calculated of 0.999, accuracy value between sensor reading and comparison tools is 99.9% and precision value of 99.9% from 10 times data retrieval. And the third led indicator shows the corresponding indicator.

I-V characteristics of 10% Ce-doped ZnO NRs growth on IDE arrays

Conductivity-based sensor using interdigitated electrode (IDE) as a substrate has been studied by scientists due to its potential application for sensing devices. Synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) which were doped by cerium (Ce) of 0% (pure ZnO) and 10% (ZnO/Ce) has been done on the IDE substrate. Ce-doped ZnO NRs are synthesized in two steps, i.e., deposition of seed layer and growth of Ce-doped ZnO NRs. Seed layer is coated on an IDE substrate by dip-coating method using zinc acetate dihydrate (ZnAc) and diethylamine (DEA) dissolved in 0.3 M ethylene glycol monomethyl ether. ZnO NRs is grown by hydrothermal method from solution zinc nitrate tetrahydrate (ZNT), hexamethylene-tetramine (HMT) and Ce as a dopant. I- V characteristics with various substrate temperatures at 37°C, and 150°C to 250°C have been observed for pure ZnO and ZnO/Ce samples. Even the results of I-V characteristic generally follow Ohm’s law, Ce doping affects the current vs temperature dependence. Ce doping enhances a decrease in the current when the temperature is increased from 150°C to 180°C and then the current increases with increasing temperature from 180°C to 250°C. This result indicates that Ce doping modifies electrical property of ZnO crystal in high temperature, which is essential to be clarified as a basic behavior for future sensor application.

The simulation of organic rankine cycle power plant with n-pentane working fluid

In the steam power plant in Indonesia the dry steam from separator directly used to drive the turbin. Meanwhile, brine from the separator with low grade temperature reinjected to the earth. The brine with low grade temperature can be converted indirectly to electrical power by organic Rankine cycle (ORC) methods. In ORC power plant the steam are released from vaporization of organic working fluid by brine. The steam released are used to drive an turbine which in connected to generator to convert the mechanical energy into electric energy. The objective of this research is the simulation ORC power plant with n-pentane as organic working fluid. The result of the simulation for brine temperature around 165°C and the pressure 8.001 bar optained the net electric power around 1173 kW with the cycle thermal efficiency 14.61% and the flow rate of n-pentane around 15.51 kg/s. This result enable to applied in any geothermal source in Indonesia.
