Exchange rate analysis by nonlinear time series method

A financial data analysis using the time series method has been performed. At the same time a correct interpretation of daily exchange rates fluctuations, for Eur foreign currencies is presented. The fractal dimension evaluation has been performed using the box-counting method, which allows for a rapid analysis of 2D images on two bits (white-black). A perfected version of this method has been employed to investigate the temporal evolution of a currency rate, which has oscillations predominantly on the vertical direction.

Mind Controlled gaming for the Differently Abled aims to open up the arena of gaming entertainment to those that has special needs. The project is modelled in such a way that it facilitates playing games without the need for physical interaction with the game itself such as operating a keyboard. The project uses the capability of the human brain to facilitate this kind of physical interaction less gaming. It uses the principle of Electroencephalography, an electrophysiological observing technique to record electrical movement of the brain. We utilize noninvasive situation of electrodes along the scalp. EEG estimates voltage variances coming about because of ionic current inside the neurons of the brain which are then mapped to certain activities that can be performed within the games.

Predicting the severity of blood vessel tissue damage in retinal images using support vector machine classifier

In recent years many of the people are suffering from diabetics which may result damaging the human eye sights by damaging the blood vessels of the retinal by form exudates around the optic disc. In this paper, we intend to build retinal exudates from fundus image to predict the severity of diabetics resulting in blood vessels tissue damages. In order to analysis the blood vessels damage and diabetic severity initially we use appropriate image pre-processing techniques to remove any noise from the retinal funds image, to remove the noise in this paper we use wavelet transform and first order Gaussian derivative and matched filter to segment the fundus image by rotating the original image by certain angle. The filtered data is stored in the matched filter bank, then by applying k-NN clustering technique to identify minimum value in each filter bank and marking such minimum value center of k-nearest neighbor value. Further, Support vector machine a supervised learning algorithm is applied to the identified k-nearest neighbor values thereby predicting the severity of blood vessel tissue damage from the fundus image.

Mantle cloaking for decoupling of interleaved phased antenna arrays in 5G applications

The concept of mantle cloaking is applied to suppress the undesired cross-coupling among the antenna elements of two tightly spaced and interleaved phased antenna arrays used in 5G wireless applications, which in turn enhances the radiation characteristics of the arrays. It is demonstrated that the specifically designed metasurface cloaks decouple the antenna elements of two different arrays and enable to restore the original radiation patterns of the isolated arrays, such that the antenna arrays placed in close proximity of each other can radiate independently for a wide range of beam scanning angles. This paper illustrates microstrip antenna arrays with elliptically shaped metasurface cloaks integrated in printed technology. The simulation results validate the fact that by encasing the elements of the arrays with their respective cloaks, it is not only possible to eliminate the cross coupling but also to restore the radiation properties of the antenna arrays within the frequency bands of their operation.

Spread spectrum time-domain reflectometry for detecting and locating capacitive impedances

This paper describes new algorithms for spread spectrum time domain reflectometry (SSTDR) for detecting and locating faults in photovoltaic (PV) panels. Specifically, we present a new method for identifying the impedance of multiple loads (such as PV panels) on a single transmission line. This method is based on adapting a well-known algorithm, known as orthogonal matching pursuit, to match simulated waveforms with multiple reflections in an SSTDR waveform. We demonstrate that our method successfully extracts waveform data from the SSTDR experiments and correctly estimates load impedances corresponding to reflections in this waveform data. We experimentally demonstrate that our method correctly estimates the capacitance values of various capacitive loads on a transmission line with an error as low as4%.

A damage localization and quantification algorithm for indirect structural health monitoring of bridges using multi-task learning

We propose a multi-task learning approach for estimating both the location and magnitude of damage occurring on an experimental bridge using acceleration signals collected from a passing vehicle. This is a low-cost and low-maintenance indirect structural health monitoring approach in which sensors on the vehicle are used to detect bridge damage. Recently, signal processing and machine learning approaches have been shown to perform well in achieving higher-level structural health monitoring objectives, such as damage localization and quantification. However, these methods not only lack robustness to measurement and model noises, but also require more physical insights. Guided by a theoretical formulation of a simple vehicle-bridge interaction system, our approach preserves the non-linearity of the trend of the acceleration signals as severity changes, and simultaneously localizes and quantifies the damage for minimizing uncertainties propagating from the location estimation. We evaluate our model on an experimental dataset. In the experiments, the damage is represented by a mass with gradually changing magnitude attached at different positions on the bridge. The results show that it can estimate locations of the damage with an accuracy of 0.08 m (3.30% of the total length of the bridge) and changes in severity level with an accuracy of 17.81 grams (8.9% of the maximum severity mass).

Automatic system for stitching microscopic images using OpenPano

Analyzing pap smear images by manual reading through a microscope is a challenge for doctors especially in distinguishing epithelial cells from inflammatory cells. A computer-based application is required for cervical cancer screening and displaying the results of reading automatically pap smear images using a microscope. This study aims to develop a module for stitching microscopic images including pap smear images which are collected from a microscope. A module for automatically stitching pap smear images is an important component in pap smear images management system. There are three tasks in stitching several pap smear images which were implemented in this study. Those three tasks include 1) feature extraction with scale-invariant feature transform, 2) estimation of homography or affine transformation by random sample consensus and 3) optimization of connection between images with bundle adjustment and blending. We use OpenPano to implement those three tasks. The system has successfully stitched the pap smear images with the feature overlap among the images greater than 10%. The stitched pap smear image has good quality after smoothing using the vertical blending step. In addition, blurry pixels on in some spots disappeared after performing the stitching error. The image quality has been improved after the multiband blending using 16-band and 128-band which shows the significant improvement on the 128-band. The system is expected to assist doctors in pap smear image identification.

The present work highlights the application of finite element method to conjugate heat and mass in porous annulus. transfer Finite element discretization of double diffusion in porous medium having fixed in annular geometry is presented. The simplest of the two dimensional elements i.e. triangular element is made use of to divide the geometry of problem under investigation into a set of smaller segments. Galerkin method is applied to convert the equations that govern double diffusion in porous medium into a set of algebraic equations. The application of FEM results into 3 equation for each element which is then assembled into a global matrix to get the solution. There are three equations which results into three set of simultaneous equations in the form of global matrix. The formulation is discussed with respect to the solution methodology to be followed.
