Conjugate heat transfer due to the solid at the inner surface is investigated when the outer surface is heated to hot temperature and inner surface is maintained at lower temperature. The present article is continuation of the article that discussed the effect of physical parameters. This article is specifically focused to discuss the geometric parameters such as aspect ratio, radius ratio and the solid width radio on heat transfer characteristics. Finite element method is used to solve the equations derived from basic principles to represent momentum equation, energy equation and the conduction equation in solid wall.

GPS based location monitoring system with geo-fencing capabilities

This paper presents a study on GPS Based Location Monitoring System with Geo-fencing Capabilities. This system provided a high-security system that prevents vehicles from being stolen. It also issued an alert to the user based on the boundary of the location by using the Internet of Things (IoT). In this study, the system could easily monitor and track the location of the vehicle and was able to issue an alert when the vehicle exited the geofence area. This system was separated into two parts which were the hardware and software. The hardware parts were the ESP8266 NodeMCU and GPS module while Google Maps and IoT platform were the software parts. The admin could monitor the vehicle via the computer, and the notification alert was sent to the registered email of the admin when the vehicle exited or entered the geofence area. The prototype system was tested by moving the vehicle around the geofence area. The results showed the correct location of the vehicle and email notification alert when it exited or entered the boundaries. The location accuracy of about 95% compared to the real-map on the mobile phone.

We consider the deformation of a nonlinearly elastic wedge in the case of a stored energy function that is given by a power law. Numerical solutions that are not unidirectional, in that the displacement is towards the apex in certain regions of the wedge and away from the apex in other regions, are obtained. Boundary conditions describing the extension or contracting of the planes are considered, and also traction boundary conditions.

Conceptual model of the VR module for “Virtual plaza for interactive presentation of Bulgarian cultural heritage”

In the last years, Virtual Reality (VR) has been established itself as a highly promising media technology for reconstruction and presentation of cultural heritage sites to a wide audience. Virtual Reality enables not only an exploration of a single artefact but of many virtual objects spatially and temporally arranged into a single scene. The users enter an artificially created space and get a feeling of being a part of it. They can perceive and interact with the objects in the virtual environment in natural way. In this paper we propose a conceptual model of the VR module for the “Virtual Plaza for Immersive Representation of Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Sites”. It contains an analysis of the possible input data and the developed workflows to help experts from the cultural heritage domain to implement various scenarios for presentation of single artefacts and complete scene par of cultural heritage site using the benefits of Virtual Reality as visualization medium.

Exergoeconomics in the sanitary-ware industry to reduce energy and water consumptions

Ceramic sanitary-ware manufacturing is an industrial sector within the ceramic field that globally demands more than 100,000 TJ of primary energy and 21,000 dam3 of water per year. This research aims to quantify the reachable level of improvement within this industrial field by application of thermal engineering through the different thermal processes along the manufacturing line and the way to apply it to recover the water of the process and reduce the total consumption of primary energy. Advanced exergetic analysis has been the selected technique applied to all thermal sub-processes that comprise the overall process. The novelty of this research lays on the application of heat recovery through the different thermal processes to minimize the global consumption of both, energy and water for the specific field of the sanitary-ware manufacturing where no research has been approached in this regard. This research shows that 20% of the inlet exergy in a conventional factory is recoverable and the way to achieve it by an optimized factory which saves 3% of primary energy and 100% of the flushing water for molds.

Lead free ohmic connections on large surface area Si solar cells

Lead free ohmic connections made on industrially manufactured Si solar cells are studied. Flat copper wires coated with either Sn(96.5%)/Ag(3.5%) or Bi(58%)/Sn(42%) eutectic alloys are soldered to the bus bars of the Si cells to form environmentally friendly ohmic connections. Soldering temperatures as low as 180 °C are used for connecting the copper ribbons, coated with the Bi(58%)/Ag(42%) eutectic alloy, to the bus bars. The electrical performance of the Si solar cells with the Pb-free ohmic connections is evaluated from the analysis of the recorded I-V characteristic curves under direct or concentrated sunlight. Micro X-Ray Fluorescence measurements are performed after the completion of each individual step in the process used for making the ohmic connections. Lead is detected only on the bus bars and the quantitative analysis shows that it exceeds the limit specified by the RoHS directive. Its presence is attributed to the Pb-oxide of the glass frit in the Ag paste used during the screen printing fabrication of the Si cells.

Determination of residual stresses in GFRP composite using incremental slitting method by the aid of strain gauge

Residual stresses are those stresses which exist in the specimen even before the specimen has been loaded. Chemical Shrinkage of matrix and the thermal mismatch between the components of the composites during curing are main sources for residual stresses in polymer composite. Residual stresses may add up to the external loads and cause premature failure of the structure. The presence of residual stresses effects the structural integrity of the structure and should be investigated and quantified. Unidirectional (UD) woven Glass fiber was coated with epoxy resin using manual draw down method and then composite laminate was made using hand lamination technique which was cured under room temperature and then post cured at 180 °C for 3 hours The main objective of this work is to experimentally determine the cure induced residual stresses in glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite using incremental slitting method. The technique compromises of introducing a thin slit using a CNC milling from the top surface of the specimen in the form of incremental cuts while the corresponding released strains are recorded from strain gauge bonded on the bottom surface of the specimen for every incremental cut. The results obtained display a high values of residual stresses inherited during the curing *** original version of this article supplied to AIP Publishing contained an error in the affiliation for G. Consonant-Vowel Coarticulation in the Buckeye Corpus

Theories of vowel perception, production, and acquisition have moved on from the early simple assumption of a single target for each vowel in auditory space, and yet modern variations continue to employ this notion in more sophisticated garb. The vowel prototype is lately conceived as the result of an auditory processing function incorporating information about both vowel dynamics and flanking sounds. Vowel sounds most often are flanked by consonants which are coarticulated with the vowel. It is commonly presumed that listeners apply an unknown auditory transformation to undo the coarticulatory effects when processing speech cognitively. This presumption requires coarticulation to be systematically predictable from neighboring consonants, which some studies have not found to be the case. The present study examines the vowel formants of 37 speakers from the Buckeye corpus of American English. It is found that consonant-vowel coarticulation effects are large and ubiquitous, but are not sufficiently consistent across speakers to be predictable from the consonants. As a result there are no “ideal” vowels to be found in the data. There appears to be no way to transform such acoustic data by relying on the consonants that could yield a set of ideal vowel prototypes.

Conjugate heat transfer in an annulus due to partial heating-part I

Porous medium inside an annulus being subjected to conjugate heat transfer is investigated. The solid is placed at the inner radius. The bottom half of the inner radius is heated with constant temperature Th and outer radius is cooled to temperature T°. The popular numerical method such as finite element method is employed. Results are presented for width of solid and conductivity ratio between solid and fluid.

Influence of herbicide 2,4-D dimethylamine 865SL on photosynthetic mechanism of algae species Chlorella Kessleri immobilized in a biochip

Algae are very important to the life of human as a bio-indicator of water pollution. The observation of algae vitality can give information of the environment changes of the algae, which are shown by the changes of parameter in its environment. This study is aimed to observe the influence of toxicity of herbicide 2,4-D dimethylamine 865 SL on the vitality of algae species Chlorella Kessleri in producing dissolved oxygen as a result of photosynthetic mechanism. A 50 µL herbicide 2,4-D dimethylamine 865 SL with a concentration of 10 % was added into immobilized algae in the Biochip-C from cellasys GmbH and stimulated with artificial light of 400-700 nm for photosynthetic process. The effect of herbicide 2,4-D dimethylamine 865 SL was observed and shows the increase of the basal potential after 1500 s, which indicates the dissolved oxygen reduction in the environment of the algae. This effect is reversible and a restoration of the photosynthetic activity take place after the substance removal. The use of this toxin is systemic, which slowly kill the living cells.
