Prediction system of hydroponic plant growth and development using algorithm Fuzzy Mamdani method

Hydroponics is a method of farming without soil. One of the Hydroponic plants is Watercress (Nasturtium Officinale). The development and growth process of hydroponic Watercress was influenced by levels of nutrients, acidity and temperature. The independent variables can be used as input variable system to predict the value level of plants growth and development. The prediction system is using Fuzzy Algorithm Mamdani method. This system was built to implement the function of Fuzzy Inference System (Fuzzy Inference System/FIS) as a part of the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox (FLT) by using MATLAB R2007b. FIS is a computing system that works on the principle of fuzzy reasoning which is similar to humans’ reasoning. Basically FIS consists of four units which are fuzzification unit, fuzzy logic reasoning unit, base knowledge unit and defuzzification unit. In addition to know the effect of independent variables on the plants growth and development that can be visualized with the function diagram of FIS output surface that is shaped three-dimensional, and statistical tests based on the data from the prediction system using multiple linear regression method, which includes multiple linear regression analysis, T test, F test, the coefficient of determination and donations predictor that are calculated using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) software applications.

Rapid multichannel impact-echo scanning of concrete bridge decks from a continuously moving platform

Impact-echo testing is a non-destructive evaluation technique for determining the presence of defects in reinforced concrete bridge decks based on the acoustic response of the bridge deck when struck by an impactor. In this work, we build on our prior research with a single-channel impactor to demonstrate a seven-channel impact-echo scanning system with independent control of the impactors. This system is towed by a vehicle and integrated with distance measurement for registering the locations of the impacts along a bridge deck. The entire impact and recording system is computer-controlled. Because of a winch system and hinged frame construction of the apparatus, setup, measurement, and take-down of the apparatus can be achieved in a matter of minutes. Signal processing of the impact responses is performed on site and can produce a map of delaminations immediately after data acquisition. This map can then be used to guide other testing and/or can be referenced with the results of other testing techniques to facilitate comprehensive condition assessments of concrete bridge decks. This work demonstrates how impact-echo testing can be performed in a manner that makes complete bridge deck scanning for delaminations rapid and practical.

Vertical impedance measurements provide significant quantitative information about the ability of concrete cover to slow the penetration of chloride ions that can corrode steel reinforcement in a bridge deck. The primary limitations preventing the widespread adoption of vertical impedance for assessment of concrete bridge decks are (1) the necessity to have a direct electrical connection to the embedded steel reinforcement and (2) the low speeds of data acquisition. This work presents solutions to both limitations. A method using a large-area electrode as a reference electrode for vertical impedance testing is validated using both simulations and measurements in the field.

Mathematical analysis of Carreau fluid model for blood flow in tapered constricted arteries

The pulsatile flow of blood through a tapered constricted narrow artery is investigated in this study by treating the blood as Carreau fluid model. The constriction in the artery is due to the formation of asymmetric stenosis in the lumen of the artery. The expressions obtained by Sankar (2016) for the various flow quantities, are used to analyze the flow with different arterial geometry. The influence of various flow parameters on the velocity distribution, wall shear stress and longitudinal impedance to flow is discussed. The velocity of blood increases with the increase of the power law index and stenosis shape parameter and it decreases considerably with the increase of the maximum depth of the stenosis. The wall shear stress and longitudinal impedance to flow decrease with the increase stenosis shape parameter, amplitude of the pulsatile pressure gradient, flow rate, power law index and Weissenberg number. The estimates of the percentage of increase in the wall shear stress and longitudinal impedance to flow increase with the increase of the angle tapering and these increase significantly with the increase of the maximum depth of the stenosis. The mean velocity of blood decreases considerably with the increase of the artery radius (except in arteriole), maximum depth of the stenosis and angle of tapering and it is considerably higher in pulsatile flow of blood than in the steady flow of blood.

We report magnetotransport study on type-II Weyl semimetal WP2 single crystals. Magnetoresistance (MR) exhibits a nonsaturating Hn field dependence (14,300% at 2 K and 9 T) whereas systematic violation of Kohler’s rule was observed. Quantum oscillations reveal a complex multiband electronic structure. The cyclotron effective mass close to the mass of free electron me was observed in quantum oscillations along b-axis, while reduced effective mass of about 0.5me was observed in a-axis quantum oscillations, suggesting Fermi surface anisotropy. Temperature dependence of the resistivity shows a large upturn that cannot be explained by the multi-band magnetoresistance of conventional metals. Even though crystal structure of WP2 is not layered as in transition metal dichalcogenides, quantum oscillations suggest partial two-dimensional character. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Comparison between FSW and bonded lap joints – A preliminary investigation

Difficult to weld aluminium alloys can be effectively joined by different alternative processes. Friction Stir Welding (FSW), among the solid-state processes and adhesive bonding represent two very attractive techniques. They allow the production of highly resistant joints avoiding the formation of the typical fusion weld defects. The aim of this work is to identify, analyse and compare the mechanical properties of AA6016 aluminium alloy joints made out of 1 mm thick sheets. FSW lap joints were and epoxy bonded joints were produced. Using the FSW results as benchmark, the overlap required in the bonded joint was identified to ensure the same static strength. Once the geometric configurations of the joints are known, the static and dynamic resistance of welds and bonding have been compared.

Plasmonic superradiant antennas

Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians have long been utilized in the investigation of open quantum systems in various disciplines, such as the shell model in nuclear physics and solid state quantum computing devices in condensed matter physics to name a few. The hallmark of these systems is the sharp redistribution of decay widths and the segregation of short-lived “superradiant” states and long-lived “trapped” states at sufficiently strong interaction with the continuum. Here we extend the applicability of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian framework to systems of spherical metallic nano particles where light can be manipulated via surface plasmonic resonances. The signature of superradiance emerges when the interaction between adjacent optical nanoantennas occurs through a single continuum channel, resulting in eigenmodes with distinct properties: superradiant states with enhanced radiation and confined dark modes for which radiation is greatly suppressed. A new type of superradiance occurs in waveguide-like structures that are coupled to an external world such as laser sources and measurement probes. In this case, the neighboring spheres interact indirectly through a common continuum channel provided by the external device, resulting in the same superradiance transition phenomenon. The effect of superradiant states on energy transmission through a one dimensional chain of spheres is also considered, with applications to optical-frequency nano-scale antennas and waveguide-like structures.

Novel wave surfaces to the fractional Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation

In this work, we apply the improved Bernoulli sub-equation function method to the space-time fractional Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation. We obtain new travelling wave solutions to this model for values of M, n and m. We have obtained hyperbolic function solutions that describe some physical phenomena. Two- and three-dimensional surfaces of travelling wave solutions are plotted by using Wolfram Mathematica 9. At the end of this study, a conclusion is given by mentioning important findings.

Background Biologic agents provide clinical benefits in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) but they are associated with an increased risk of tuberculosis (TB) infection. Objectives We investigated the accordance between the tuberculin skin test (TST) and the interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) release assay (IGRA) for the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in patients with RA. The objective of our study was a direct comparison between the IGRA and the TST regarding LTBI diagnosis in RA patients before starting anti-TNF agents and at least one year after the initiation of treatment. Methods RA consecutive patients have been included in the study both before and after 1 year of the initiation of TNF-α antagonist therapy. A standard questionnaire was completed for each patient, including basic demographic data and concurrent immunosuppressive therapy (corticosteroids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs [DMARDs], synthetic and biologics). The patients were screened for LTBI using IGRA and TST methods. All analyses were performed with IBM-SPSS Statistics for Windows (version 21). The kappa coefficient (κ) was calculated to determine the concordance between the two tests: TST and IGRA. The strength of the agreement was considered “poor” for κ ≤0.20, “low-moderate” for 0.20 < κ ≤0.40, moderate for 0.40 < κ ≤0.60, “substantial” for 0.60 < κ ≤0.80, and “optimal” for 0.80 < κ ≤1. Results 78 patients (67 female, 11 male) have been screened with TST and IGRA. The accordance between TST and IGRA was 89.7% (κ 0.514, κ<0.001). A κ value of 0.514 represents a moderate accordance between the two tests. 6 female patients converted TST (4 became positive, and 2 became negative). No patient developed active tuberculosis. Conclusions A moderate accordance between the two methods (TST and IGRA) was obtained.
