In this paper it is presented the initial study on the possibility of capturing the inner dynamic of Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm into a complex network structure. Inspired in previous works there are two different approaches for creating the complex network presented in this paper. Visualizations of the networks are presented and commented. The possibilities for future applications of the proposed design are given in detail.

A salinity gradient solar pond is a combined solar collector and thermal energy storage system, and heat has been successfully extracted from the lower convective zone (LCZ) in working ponds using pump in the past. This paper discusses possibility of heat extraction from solar ponds using a passive heat exchanger by eliminating the use of pump. Here, the development of thermosiphon heat exchanger is presented theoretically applying the related mathematical equations. The developed mathematical model is solved using a simple excel program. The result from this investigation shows good prospects for thermosiphon heat exchanger to be applied for heat extraction from large scale solar ponds passively.

The precise simulation of voice production is a challenging task, often characterized by a tradeoff between quality and speed. The usage of 3D acoustic models of realistic vocal tracts produces extremely precise results, at the cost of running simulations that may take several minutes to synthesize a few milliseconds of audio. In contrast, 1D articulatory vocal synthesizers rely on highly simplified acoustic and anatomical models to achieve real-time performances, but can only partially match the spectra of realistic vocal tracts. In this work, we present a novel articulatory vocal synthesizer, based on a fast 2D propagation model running on a graphics card (GPU). The system can run in real-time under specific conditions and, differently from 1D synthesizers, allows for simulating airflow propagation through asymmetric and curved geometries. This paper covers details on the GPU implementation of the different components of the system, including the 2D Finite-Difference Time-Domain wave solver and the excitation mechanism. A preliminary evaluation is presented, using area functions to simulate static vowels. Three different resolutions are tested, combined with two alternative ways of discretizing the 2D geometries. The computed formants are overall characterized by small positional errors while computational times are comparable with those from 1D systems.

Cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films of thickness 50 to 200 nm were deposited on glass substrates maintained at 400°C using spray pyrolysis technique. CdO thin films were deposited by varying the molar concentrations of cadmium acetate solution such as 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 M. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the films are polycrystalline in nature with cubic structure. SEM images show that the films have well defined spherical grains and grain boundaries are seen. Optical studies reveal that the films prepared from solution of 0.01 and 0.1M concentration have high transparency than films prepared at other solution concentration. The optical energy band gap value decreases from 2.50 to 2.37eV with the increase in molar concentration. Electrical studies revealed that the CdO thin film prepared using 0.1M solution possesses lowest resistivity.

This work is intended to asses the capability of LIBS for the detection of the tsunami sediment contamination in soil. LIBS apparatus used in this work consist of a laser system and an optical multichannel analyzer (OMA) system. The soil sample was collected from in Banda Aceh City, Aceh, Indonesia, the most affected region by the giant Indian Ocean tsunami 2004. The laser beam was focused onto surface of the soil pellet using a focusing lens to produce luminous plasma. The experiment was conducted under air as surrounding gas at 1 atmosphere. The emission spectral lines from the plasma were detected by the OMA system. It was found that metal including heavy metals can surely be detected, thus implying the potent of LIBS technique as a fast screening tools of tsunami sediment contamination.

The Web system for Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) project utilizes the PHP and MySQL programming languages for an entertainment purpose. This project creates a fully-functional and se- cure online user system, in which the accounts of the user system are stored in a MySQL database. Over the duration of this project, it is found that the PHP and MySQL programming languages are able to be employed for entertainment purposes, and they are both very effective in the field of entertainment. This project is meant to broaden the horizons of aspiring programmers in order to give them a glimpse into a possibility of using these programming languages in a scope that is commonly broached by game developers, but not programmers in the usual case.

In previous study, dense and homogenous 20wt% HAP/Ti composite coatings were successfully deposited on Ti substrates by cold gas dynamic spray technique. The results revealed that the phase composition of the HAP in the deposit is identical to that of the precursor powder and the bonding strength of the deposit is comparable/better to that of the plasma sprayed HAP. A relatively higher corrosion current of HAP/Ti composite than that of pure Ti coating in simulated body fluid indicates a good bioactivity for composite coating. In the present study, in vitro immersion test is carried out for various period of time and the formation of apatite layer on surface of composite coating proves the good bioactivity of the composite coating further. The cold sprayed HAP/Ti composite can be anticipated to be a promising load-bearing implant material for biomedical applications.
