EFS-XGBoost: A robust framework for precision classification of COVID-19 cases

The emergence of the novel COVID-19 virus has had a profound impact on global healthcare systems and economies, underscoring the imperative need for the development of precise and expeditious diagnostic tools. Machine learning techniques have emerged as a promising avenue for augmenting the capabilities of medical professionals in disease diagnosis and classification. In this research, the EFS-XGBoost classifier model, a robust approach for the classification of patients afflicted with COVID-19 is proposed. The key innovation in the proposed model lies in the Ensemble-based Feature Selection (EFS) strategy, which enables the judicious selection of relevant features from the expansive COVID-19 dataset. Subsequently, the power of the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) classifier to make precise distinctions among COVID-19-infected patients is *** EFS methodology amalgamates five distinctive feature selection techniques, encompassing correlation-based, chi-squared, information gain, symmetric uncertainty-based, and gain ratio approaches. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, comprehensive experiments were conducted using a COVID-19 dataset procured from Kaggle, and the implementation was executed using Python programming. The performance of the proposed EFS-XGBoost model was gauged by employing well-established metrics that measure classification accuracy, including accuracy, precision, recall, and the F1-Score. Furthermore, an in-depth comparative analysis was conducted by considering the performance of the XGBoost classifier under various scenarios: employing all features within the dataset without any feature selection technique, and utilizing each feature selection technique in isolation. The meticulous evaluation reveals that the proposed EFS-XGBoost model excels in performance, achieving an astounding accuracy rate of 99.8%, surpassing the efficacy of other prevailing feature selection techniques. Background: The automated classification of videos through artificial neural networks is addressed in this work. To explore the concepts and measure the results, the data set UCF101 is used, consisting of video clips taken from YouTube to recognize actions. The study is carried out with the authors' resources to determine the feasibility of independent research in the area. Methods: This work was developed in the Python programming language using the Keras library with Tensorflow as the back-end. The objective is to develop a network that presents performance compatible with the state of the art in terms of classifying videos according to the actions taken. Results: Given the hardware limitations, there is considerable distance between the implementation possibilities in this work and what is known as the state-of-the-art. Conclusion: Throughout the work, some aspects in which this limitation influenced the development are presented, but it is shown that this realization is feasible and that obtaining expressive results is possible 98.6% accuracy is obtained in the UCF101 data set, compared to the 98 percentage points of the best result ever reported, using, however, considerably fewer resources. In addition, the importance of transfer learning in achieving expressive results as well as the different performances of each architecture are reviewed. Thus, this work may open doors to carry patent-based outcomes. © 2025 Bentham science Publishers.

With the popularization of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) in surveillance, delivery services, environmental monitoring, and increasingly other operational aspects, besides the need to take off and land, efficient traffic management becomes integral for assuring and securing further development and exploitation. Most of the existing traffic management systems for UAVs depend on traditional rule-based algorithms or simpler machine learning techniques, such as DQN or PPO. However, these systems also have enormous challenges: dynamic environments, high-density traffic, and robust decision-making over unpredictable weather and network conditions. In addition, the above traditional models usually experience difficulties in balancing exploration and exploitation, leading to suboptimal routing and enlarged collision risks in complicated urban airspaces. These challenges have driven us to develop a new proposal: a UA V traffic management framework based on Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) combined with Instruction-Based Learning. In this approach, advanced learning for DDQN optimizes processes at decision-making points for UAVs. The model proposed herein, along with comprehensive simulations and quantitative analyses, demonstrated higher performance in terms of leadership and cumulative rewards while keeping lower training loss compared to the classical algorithms such as DQN, A3C, and PPO. At the same time, the DDQN model presented a better success rate (95%), as also reflected in the balanced precision-recall curve showing an area under the curve of 0.90, over others in the on-point prediction of UAVstate and safety margin of collision. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed DDQN-based framework significantly enhances UA V traffic management by optimizing energy consumption in complex airspaces and reducing the risk of collision. © 2025 IEEE.

Diabetes is a malnutrition that results from elevated glucose levels. Diabetes eventually results in diabetic retinopathy (DR), a retinal condition that significantly impairs vision. It is an insulin-dependent difficulty that impacts ocular health. The receptive to cells at the back of the individual retina's veins gets injured, which is the cause of it. A favorable prognosis for this condition depends on its early identification. In this paper, the application of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) on color fundus images is used for diabetic retinopathy is applied for understanding the task. The goal of the proposed DR identification method is to use deep learning to automatically identify the problem. An hybrid model that was trained and tested to distinguish between healthy and DR-affected fundi was able to achieve an accuracy of roughly 99.07% using fundus images from diabetic patients that were available in MESSIDOR. © 2025 IEEE.

Pedestrian detection is a crucial aspect of autonomous vehicle (A V) safety, as it enables accurate identification and tracking of individuals in an A V environment. Effective pedestrian detection supports essential A V functions like braking, steering, and speed control to prevent accidents in urban settings. Traditional computer vision methods, such as Support Vector Machines and Random Forests, rely on pre-designed features like the Histogram of Oriented Gradients. While the existing techniques offer some performance, it face significant challenges in dynamic environments, especially under varying lighting conditions, occlusions, and diverse pedestrian poses. Traditional models also require extensive manual feature engineering and tuning, which limits scalability and adaptability. Recent advances in deep learning, particularly with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), have allowed for automatic feature learning, yielding practical improvements over classical methods. However, CNNs can struggle in low light and when facing adversarial attacks, as they mainly capture spatial features. To address these limitations, this research proposes a new methodology combining CNNs for spatial feature extraction with Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks to capture temporal dependencies. This hybrid approach enhances detection capabilities by learning both static and dynamic patterns. Our proposed CNN-BiLSTM model achieves a 92 % detection accuracy and an F1 score of 88.5% across diverse conditions, outperforming existing models by up to 15%. By integrating temporal features, the model reduces missed detections and false positives by up to 20%, providing a more reliable and adaptable solution for pedestrian detection in autonomous vehicles. © 2025 IEEE.

Visual Object Tracking (VOT) is essential for real-time monitoring and analysis across various applications, but Siamese tracker networks face significant challenges, including overfitting, occlusion handling, fast motion, complex backgrounds, and adaptation to appearance changes. To address these challenges, we propose a novel tracker model named Siamese Deep Q-learning based online Correlation Filter Adaptation (SiamDQCFA). SiamDQCFA uses two identical subnetworks to capture evolving appearance changes and semantic similarities between the target object and search region patches, enabling effective feature extraction and adaptive parameter adjustment. This architecture extracts high-level feature representations that predict the target’s location in subsequent frames, improving accuracy over time. The model evaluates target presence in the search region using cosine similarity as a measure. Furthermore, SiamDQCFA incorporates an online correlation filter adaptation mechanism that dynamically adjusts its parameters to enhance target localization, improving the robustness of the tracker to various environmental challenges. Through extensive experimental evaluations on benchmark datasets such as OTB100, TrackingNet, VOT2019, and LaSOT, SiamDQCFA demonstrates superior performance, outperforming state-of-the-art tracking methods across multiple metrics. These results underscore the model’s effectiveness in addressing the key challenges of VOT, which makes it a robust solution for real-time tracking in challenging conditions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The interest in skin cancer detection is growing remarkably because of the prevalence of this health condition worldwide. It improves the chances of survival and enhances general treatment outcomes when diagnosis has been done early. Most the traditional methods for skin lesion detection involve visual inspection performed by dermatologists;hence, it is time-consuming and, to some extent, subjective. Therefore, with the rise of deep learning-Artificial Intelligence, auto-detection of skin cancer has gained a foothold in improving diagnostic accuracy, hence treatment outcomes. The presented paper proposes a GAN-based approach for skin cancer detection by deep learning analysis of dermoscopic images, classifying them as malignant and benign. The proposed approach uses the generator and discriminator parts of GAN to obtain an effective discrimination between cancerous and non-cancerous lesions with high precision. The proposed method incorporates the native abilities of GANs for boosting diagnostic precision. GANs consist of two major components: a generator and a discriminator. These two adversaries collaborate with each other in a way to encourage the classification performance of the framework. The generator synthesizes the realistic data representations by augmenting the dataset with various variations of dermoscopic images. This helps not only to compensate for the insufficiency of annotated data but also to make the model generalize more robustly to diverse skin lesion patterns. At the same time, the discriminator learns to distinguish malignant from benign lesions with high accuracy by using the adversarial nature in GAN training. These results clearly indicate the effectiveness of the proposed GAN-based approach over state-of-the-art traditional deep learning models. GAN makes not only the detection system more robust but also reduces its dependency on large annotated datasets. © 2025 IEEE.

The investigation aims to evaluate the performance of machine learning techniques, particularly the XGBoost regression method, for stock price prediction with the help of technical indicators. The research targets the adjusted closing price to reduce the autocorrelation problem in time series. The Five Days and Ten Days Exponential Moving Averages (EMA-5 and EMA-10) are involved in refining feature selection. The performance of the model was evaluated using different error metrics, namely, Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and Coefficient of Determination (R2). The results indicate that the XGBoost model, combined with EMA-5 and EMA-10, achieves high predictive performance, obtaining an r2 value of 0.98. It implies that incorporating short-term EMAs into advanced machine learning techniques drastically improves stock price forecasting. © 2025 IEEE.

Approximate computing effectively impacts low-power VLSI circuits by reducing circuit overhead. It introduces minimal error in the output, which does not significantly affect the application. This paper proposes an approximate multiplier constructed using 5_3 and 5_2 counters. The proposed 5_2 counter delivers two outputs instead of three, thereby achieving 60% compression. The overhead of the 5_2 counter circuit is reduced, achieving a power delay product (PDP) improvement of 18%. This reduction comes with an addition of an 6% error rate. The newly designed multiplier has less delay, where the Mean error distance (MED) is kept as low as possible. The complexity of the 5_2 counter is also reduced since the counter uses only a full adder and three gates. This is achieved by applying various error optimization mechanisms. The error parameters, (i) Error Distance (ED), and (ii) Mean Error Distance (MED) are analyzed and compared with existing works. The proposed multipliers are involved in image contrast application with better Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) value. © 2025 IEEE.

The ability to match features and keep track of objects in changing dynamic environments is still an important problem, particularly due to varying noise levels, diverse datasets, and high dimensional feature spaces. Euclidean Distance and Cosine Similarity based matching are existing methods that commonly do not generalize well, particularly in the case of cross domain scenarios, where noise and motion dynamics are powerful factors to limit the accuracy of tracking. However, Deep Metric Learning approaches can extract robust features at the cost of computational efficiency and are unsuitable for real-time applications. This research proposes a Siamese Network framework to solve these problems by using robust feature matching and multi-object tracking. Based on that, the proposed framework uses a dual-branch network architecture in which feature embeddings extracted from paired inputs are mapped through the same shared latent space. Furthermore, the adaptive learning rate leads to efficient convergence during the training. Experimental results show that the Siamese Network not only achieves better accuracy than the existing methods and the more such as Deep Metric Learning but also performs significantly more efficient computation. With an accuracy of 90.2 % at a precision of 88.5%, the framework's inference time is much faster than that of Deep Metric Learning at 2.0ms. Furthermore, the proposed method performs well on the generalization over datasets with a 15% improvement of cross-domain matching accuracy on Euclidean Distance. By striking this balance between accuracy, efficiency and adaptability, it shows its suitability for dynamic and noisy environments for real-time tracking. The proposed method fills existing gaps and achieves a new state of the art for feature matching and tracking performance. © 2025 IEEE.
