Mission critical Machine-type Communication(mcMTC),also referred to as Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communication(URLLC),has become a research *** is primarily characterized by communication that provides ultra-high reliability and very low latency to concurrently transmit short commands to a massive number of connected *** the reduction in physical(PHY)layer overhead and improvement in channel coding techniques are pivotal in reducing latency and improving reliability,the current wireless standards dedicated to support mcMTC rely heavily on adopting the bottom layers of general-purpose wireless standards and customizing only the upper *** mcMTC has a significant technical impact on the design of all layers of the communication protocol *** this paper,an innovative bottom-up approach has been proposed for mcMTC applications through PHY layer targeted at improving the transmission reliability by implementing ultra-reliable channel coding scheme in the PHY layer of IEEE 802.11a standard bearing in mind short packet transmission *** achieve this aim,we analyzed and compared the channel coding performance of convolutional codes(CCs),low-density parity-check(LDPC)codes,and polar codes in wireless network on the condition of short data packet *** Viterbi decoding algorithm(VA),logarithmic belief propagation(Log-BP)algorithm,and cyclic redundancy check(CRC)successive cancellation list(SCL)(CRC-SCL)decoding algorithm were adopted to CC,LDPC codes,and polar codes,***,a new PHY layer for mcMTC has been *** reliability of the proposed approach has been validated by simulation in terms of Bit error rate(BER)and packet error rate(PER)***-to-noise ratio(SNR).The simulation results demonstrate that the reliability of IEEE 802.11a standard has been significantly improved to be at PER=10−5 or even better with the implementation of polar *** results also show that the general-purpose wireless net

In this work,a consistent and physically accurate implementation of the general framework of unified second-order time accurate integrators via the well-known GSSSS framework in the Discrete Element Method is *** improved tangential displacement evaluation in the present implementation of the discrete element method has been derived and implemented to preserve the consistency of the correct time level evaluation during the time integration process in calculating the algorithmic tangential *** numerical examples have been used to validate the proposed tangential displacement evaluation;this is in contrast to past practices which only seem to attain the first-order time accuracy due to inconsistent time level implementation with different algorithms for normal and tangential *** comparisons with the existing implementation and the superiority of the proposed implementation are given in terms of the convergence rate with improved numerical accuracy in ***,several schemes via the unified second-order time integrators within the framework of the GSSSS family have been carried out based on the proposed correct *** the numerical results demonstrate that using the existing state-of-the-art implementation reduces the time accuracy to be first-order accurate in time,while the proposed implementation preserves the correct time accuracy to yield second-order.

A Novel Lightweight Joint Source-Channel Coding Design in Semantic Communications

Semantic communication has emerged as a promising solution to meet the growing demand for efficient data transmission in the information age. Unlike traditional communication methods that focus on transmitting raw data, semantic communication prioritizes preserving the meaning of transmitted information, which significantly reduces the data volume. However, implementing semantic communication systems in resource-constrained environments, such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, remains challenging due to limited computational resources. In this letter, we propose a novel lightweight deep learning (DL) model, termed the lightweight image compression and reconstruction network (LICRnet). LICRnet leverages depthwise separable convolution (DSC) and a local and non-local mixture (LNLM) block to significantly reduce computational costs. Additionally, the LNLM incorporates a variable window size-based multi-scale attention mechanism (VW-MSA), enabling it to effectively learn from both local detailed features and global high-level meaningful features. Extensive simulations demonstrate that LICRnet significantly reduces computational complexity while maintaining satisfactory image compression and reconstruction performance, making it highly suitable for deployment in resource-constrained environments. © 2014 IEEE.

Amalgamation of Classical and Large Language Models for Duplicate Bug Detection:A Comparative Study

Duplicate bug reporting is a critical problem in the software repositories’mining *** bug reports can lead to redundant efforts,wasted resources,and delayed software ***,their accurate identification is essential for streamlining the bug triage process mining *** researchers have explored classical information retrieval,natural language processing,text and data mining,and machine learning *** emergence of large language models(LLMs)(ChatGPT and Huggingface)has presented a new line of models for semantic textual similarity(STS).Although LLMs have shown remarkable advancements,there remains a need for longitudinal studies to determine whether performance improvements are due to the scale of the models or the unique embeddings they produce compared to classical encoding *** study systematically investigates this issue by comparing classical word embedding techniques against LLM-based embeddings for duplicate bug *** this study,we have proposed an amalgamation of models to detect duplicate bug reports using textual and non-textual information about bug *** empirical evaluation has been performed on the open-source datasets and evaluated based on established metrics using the mean reciprocal rank(MRR),mean average precision(MAP),and recall *** experimental results have shown that combined LLMs can outperform(recall-rate@k 68%–74%)other individual=models for duplicate bug *** findings highlight the effectiveness of amalgamating multiple techniques in improving the duplicate bug report detection accuracy.

Upper and Lower Bounds of the α-Universal Triple I Method for Unified Interval Implications

Theα-universal triple I(α-UTI)method is a recognized scheme in the field of fuzzy reasoning,whichwas proposed by our research group *** robustness of fuzzy reasoning determines the quality of reasoning algorithms to a large extent,which is quantified by calculating the disparity between the output of fuzzy reasoning with interference and the output without ***,in this study,the interval robustness(embodied as the interval stability)of theα-UTI method is explored in the interval-valued fuzzy *** begin with,the stability of theα-UTI method is explored for the case of an individual rule,and the upper and lower bounds of its results are estimated,using four kinds of unified interval implications(including the R-interval implication,the S-interval implication,the QL-interval implication and the interval t-norm implication).Through analysis,it is found that theα-UTI method exhibits good interval stability for an individual ***,the stability of theα-UTI method is revealed in the case of multiple rules,and the upper and lower bounds of its outcomes are *** results show that theα-UTI method is stable for multiple rules when four kinds of unified interval implications are used,***,theα-UTI reasoning chain method is presented,which contains a chain structure with multiple *** corresponding solutions and their interval perturbations are *** is found that theα-UTI reasoning chain method is stable in the case of chain *** application examples in affective computing are given to verify the stability of theα-*** summary,through theoretical proof and example verification,it is found that theα-UTImethod has good interval robustness with four kinds of unified interval implications aiming at the situations of an individual rule,multi-rule and reasoning chain.

Changes in the Atmospheric Electric Field Signal(AEFS)are highly correlated with weather changes,especially with thunderstorm ***,little attention has been paid to the ambiguous weather information implicit in AEFS *** this paper,a Fuzzy C-Means(FCM)clustering method is used for the first time to develop an innovative approach to characterize the weather attributes carried by ***,a time series dataset is created in the time domain using AEFS *** AEFS-based weather is evaluated according to the time-series Membership Degree(MD)changes obtained by inputting this dataset into the ***,thunderstorm intensities are reflected by the change in distance from a thunderstorm cloud point charge to an AEF ***,a matching relationship is established between the normalized distance and the thunderstorm dominant MD in the space ***,the rationality and reliability of the proposed method are verified by combining radar charts and expert *** results confirm that this method accurately characterizes the weather attributes and changes in the AEFS,and a negative distance-MD correlation is obtained for the first *** detection of thunderstorm activity by AEF from the perspective of fuzzy set technology provides a meaningful guidance for interpretable thunderstorms.

Edge computing platforms enable application developers and content providers to provide context-aware services(such as service recommendations)using real-time wireless access network *** to recommend the most suitable candidate from these numerous available services is an urgent ***-through rate(CTR)prediction is a core task of traditional service ***,many existing service recommender systems do not exploit user mobility for prediction,particularly in an edge computing *** this paper,we propose a model named long and short-term user preferences modeling with a multi-interest network based on user *** uses a logarithmic network to capture multiple interests in different fields,enriching the representations of user short-term *** terms of long-term preferences,users'comprehensive preferences are extracted in different periods and are fused using a nonlocal *** experiments on three datasets demonstrate that our model relying on user mobility can substantially improve the accuracy of service recommendation in edge computing compared with the state-of-the-art models.

In recent years, there has been a rapid development of intelligent driving assistance systems. Although most vehicles nowadays are equipped with driving assistance systems, the number of car accidents continues to rise. The main cause of car accidents is still largely attributed to human factors. Therefore, there has been an increasing focus on research related to vehicle event recognition and traffic video analysis. This study used deep learning methods to automatically recognize vehicle events from recorded driving videos. We expanded Inception-V3 to a 3D structure and replaced the bottom architecture of SlowFastNet with 3D-Inception-V3 to form a 3D-Inception-V3 + SlowFastNet model, making the network more suitable for video data recognition. In the experiment, we cut all videos into one-second clips and label each clip with vehicle event categories, including vehicle stopping, straight driving, turning, and collision. The experiment utilized training and testing procedures with eight distinct models, i.e., R3D, I3D, I3D + Kinetics-400, SlowFastNet(50), SlowFastNet(101), SlowFastNet(152), SlowFastNet(200), and the proposed 3D-Inception-V3 + SlowFastNet models. Comparative analysis through experiments revealed that our proposed network achieved the highest recognition accuracy of 93.3%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Accurate Distinction of Weak and Strong AC Grids for Emerging Hierarchical-Infeed LCC-UHVDC Systems

Distinction of weak and strong AC grids for emerging hierarchical-infeed LCC-UHVDC systems is important for planning and operation departments. However, accuracy of earlier distinction methods is limited as they were developed by empirical reasoning without rigorous theoretical analysis. Hence in this letter, hierarchical-infeed interactive effective short-circuit ratio (HIESCR) index is first used for strength evaluation of HIDC systems with complex inter-inverter interactions considered. Boundary HIESCR (BHIESCR) is also introduced in the proposed distinction method of weak and strong AC grids. That is, weak (or strong) AC grids are, respectively, identified when HIESCR is less (or greater) than BHIESCR. Second, it is shown BHIESCR remains almost unchanged as 3.0 versus various system parameters and rated operation variables based on rigorous theoretical analysis. This salient feature makes the proposed method more accurate than earlier methods. Finally, the proposed method is validated by simulations based on the PSCAD/EMTDC program.
