Modern manufacturing industries are being shifted towards a new business model where low cost and high customer value solutions should be designed and provided. The use of advanced technology and mobile applications will support companies to approach customers, and extract and analyze their opinion. Towards that, this research work presents tools for customers’ feedback gathering and management to support efficient and accurate product and service designs. Mobile applications for customer feedback gathering on products and services and an importance-satisfaction analysis based on modular design approach are proposed. The tools are validated in a real case study from the robotics industry.

With the universal application of camera in intelligent vehicles, visual place recognition has become a major problem in intelligent vehicle localization. The traditional solution is to make visual description of place images using hand-crafted feature for matching places, but this description method is not very good for extreme variability, especially for seasonal transformation. In this paper, we propose a new method based on convolutional neural network (CNN), by putting images into the pre-trained network model to get automatically learned image descriptors, and through some operations of pooling, fusion and binarization to optimize them, then the similarity result of place recognition is presented with the Hamming distance of the place sequence. In the experimental part, we compare our method with some state-of-the-art algorithms, FABMAP, ABLE-M and SeqSLAM, to illustrate its advantages. The experimental results show that our method based on CNN achieves better performance than other methods on the representative public datasets. © 2018 IEEE.

KM3NeT/ORCA is an underwater neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. Its primary scientific goal is to measure the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and to determine the neutrino mass ordering. ORCA can constrain the oscillation parameters Δm ²₃₁ and θ ₂₃ by reconstructing the arrival direction and energy of multi-GeV neutrinos crossing the Earth. Searches for deviations from the Standard Model of particle physics in the forward scattering of neutrinos inside Earth matter, produced by Non-Standard Interactions, can be conducted by investigating distortions of the standard oscillation pattern of neutrinos of all flavours. This work reports on the results of the search for non-standard neutrino interactions using the first six detection units of ORCA and 433 kton-years of exposure. No significant deviation from standard interactions was found in a sample of 5828 events reconstructed in the 1 GeV-1 TeV energy range. The flavour structure of the non-standard coupling was constrained at 90% confidence level to be |ϵ_μτ | ≤ 5.4 × 10^-3, |ϵ_eτ | ≤ 7.4 × 10^-2, |ϵ_eμ | ≤ 5.6 × 10^-2 and -0.015 ≤ ϵ_ττ - ϵ_μμ ≤ 0.017. The results are comparable to the current most stringent limits placed on the parameters by other experiments. © 2025 The Author(s)

Indirect dark matter detection methods are used to observe the products of dark matter annihilations or decays originating from astrophysical objects where large amounts of dark matter are thought to accumulate. With neutrino telescopes, an excess of neutrinos is searched for in nearby dark matter reservoirs, such as the Sun and the Galactic Centre, which could potentially produce a sizeable flux of Standard Model particles. The KM3NeT infrastructure, currently under construction, comprises the ARCA and ORCA undersea Čerenkov neutrino detectors located at two different sites in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore of Italy and France, respectively. The two detector configurations are optimised for the detection of neutrinos of different energies, enabling the search for dark matter particles with masses ranging from a few GeV/c² to hundreds of TeV/c². In this work, searches for dark matter annihilations in the Galactic Centre and the Sun with data samples taken with the first configurations of both detectors are presented. No significant excess over the expected background was found in either of the two analyses. Limits on the velocity-averaged self-annihilation cross section of dark matter particles are computed for five different primary annihilation channels in the Galactic Centre. For the Sun, limits on the spin-dependent and spin-independent scattering cross sections of dark matter with nucleons are given for three annihilation channels. © 2025 The Author(s)

We propose an effective and flexible way to assemble tangent stiffness matrices in MATLAB. Our technique is applied to elastoplastic problems formulated in terms of displacements and discretized by the finite element method. The tangent stiffness matrix is repeatedly assembled in each time step and in each iteration of the semismooth Newton method. We consider von Mises and Drucker-Prager yield criteria, linear and quadratic finite elements in two and three space dimensions. Our codes are vectorized and available for download. Comparisons with other available MATLAB codes show, that our technique is also efficient for purely elastic problems. In elastoplasticity, the assembly times are linearly proportional to the number of integration points.

In the paper, it is presented about the design of the quasi-time optimal control law for Ball and Beam system when the control signal is limited. Impact signal limits are characteristic of real physical systems, so when designing embedded control systems this is an important factor to consider. In this design method, the transformation from the equations of object system to equations with limited control signals is made using extra variables. Proceed to synthesize the new control laws on the new system by the quasi-time optimal control. By the proposed synthesizing method, the control law ensures that the embedded control system works stably and the system works quickly in terms of time. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed design.

The paper discusses the impact of explosively formed projectiles (EFP) on the process of penetration of armor elements. The protective abilities of homogeneous armor plates and their structure as a result of fast-changing phase transitions have been analyzed. The phenomenon of exposing the analyzed energy-absorbing shield to the EFP impact was also considered in terms of numerical methods. The obtained results constituted the basis for concluding the hydrodynamic effect of the EFP projectile on the armor structure. The extensive metallographic analysis of changes in the structure of steel armor elements within the area of the crater’s formation and the punctuated spigot for comparison with the structure of the armor before shooting has been presented.

This paper presents a framework for fast and robust motion planning designed to facilitate automated driving. The framework allows for real-time computation even for horizons of several hundred meters and thus enabling automated driving in urban conditions. This is achieved through several features. Firstly, a convenient geometrical representation of both the search space and driving constraints enables the use of classical path planning approach. Thus, a wide variety of constraints can be tackled simultaneously (other vehicles, traffic lights, etc.). Secondly, an exact cost-to-go map, obtained by solving a relaxed problem, is then used by A∗-based algorithm with model predictive flavour in order to compute the optimal motion trajectory. The algorithm takes into account both distance and time horizons. The approach is validated within a simulation study with realistic traffic scenarios. We demonstrate the capability of the algorithm to devise plans both in fast and slow driving conditions, even when full stop is required. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In sustainability practices, transportation systems make significant contributions to sustainable growth. Within the transportation systems, the aviation sector has a different position in terms of creating various service areas and the integrity of other transportation systems. It is aimed to reduce the noise level and harmful gas emissions by 80% in the aviation sector in the next 30 years. Despite the developments and studies in the field of sustainability, fossil fuel use is increasing and CO2 emissions in aviation cannot be reduced to the expected level. Isparta Suleyman Demirel Airport is an airport with a capacity of 1500000 passengers / year with 5400 m2 domestic and international lines, which was put into service in 1997. In this study, CO2 emission has been estimated by using Tier approach in 2018 according to flight type and number. It is aimed to provide a common framework for the determination and reduction of CO2 emissions in airport operations.
