ROBUST GLOBAL EXPONENTIAL STABILITY OF UNCERTAIN IMPULSIVE SYSTEMS

By using the quasi-Lyapunov function, some sufficient conditions of global exponential stability for impulsive systems are established, which is the basis for the following discussion. Then, by employing Riccati inequality and Hamilton-Jacobi inequality approach, some sufficient conditions of robust exponential stability for uncertain linear/nonlinear impulsive systems are derived, respectively. Finally, some examples are given to illustrate the applications of the theory.

Repetitive processes are a distinct class of two-dimensional systems (i.e. information propagation in two independent directions) of both systems theoretic and applications interest. They cannot be controlled by direct extension of existing techniques from either standard (termed 1D here) or two-dimensional (2D) systems theory. in this paper we define a new model for these processes necessary to represent dynamics which arise in some applications areas and which are not included in the currently used model. Then we proceed to define quadratic stability for this case and develop the first results on a control theory in the form of pass controllability and the design of physically based control laws. In the area of control theory the time-delay systems have been investigated. It's well known that delays often result in instability, therefore, stability analysis of time-delay systems is an important subject in control theory. As a result, many criteria for testing the stability of linear time-delay systems have been proposed. Significant progress has been made in the theory of impulsive systems and impulsive delay systems in recent years. However, the corresponding theory for uncertain impulsive systems and uncertain impulsive delay systems has not been fully developed. In this paper, robust stability criteria are established for uncertain linear delay impulsive systems by using Lyapunov function, Razumikhin techniques and the results obtained. Some examples are given to illustrate our theory.

Repetitive processes are a distinct class of 2D linear systems with applications in areas ranging from long-wall coal cutting and metal rolling operations through to iterative learning control schemes. The main feature which makes them distinct from other classes of 2D linear systems is that information propagation in one of the two independent directions only occurs over a finite duration. This, in turn, means that a distinct systems theory must be developed for them, which can then be translated into efficient routinely applicable controller design algorithms for applications domains. In this paper, we give the first significant results on a positive realness based approach to the analysis of these processes. Copyright © 2002 IFAC.

A millimeter polarimeter for the 45m telescope at Nobeyama

We have designed and constructed a tunable polarimeter system to cover frequencies from 35 GHz to 250 GHz (8.6 mm and 1.2 mm in wavelength) for the 45m telescope at Nobeyama Radio Observatory (NRO). Both circular and linear polarizations can be measured by the polarimeter. The performance of the polarimeter in astronomical observations was tested by simultaneously measuring the linear polarization of the J=2−1 transition of SiO in the v=0 and 1 states at 86 GHz toward VY CMa. The design, construction, and tests are presented briefly.

A multilayer control of industrial processes is revisited in the paper. The multilayer decomposition of complex control problem into a sequence of simpler control tasks leads to appealing and reliable control system. However, the price to be paid versus centralised dynamic solution (if such is achievable) is a loss on optimality. A problem of reducing the loss of optimality is undertaken in the paper. Several ways of approaching the problem are proposed and investigated. They consist in integrating operations of the control layers, developing new class of predictive controllers for the follow-up control together with their fuzzy-logic supervision and in supervisory actions against abrupt faults and failures of the process operation by employing artificial intelligence techniques. Ability to maintain robustly the process operating point closer to constraint boundaries, thus reducing the constraint margins needed to guarantee operational feasibility is a key property of the new predictive controllers.

Design and stability analysis of fuzzy multiregional digital controllers is considered in the paper. The controllers are based on a notion of NARMAX systems, very simmilar to the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. The nonlinear system is approximated by a number of linear subsystems. Linear controllers are designed for all subsystems. It can be made in a classical way due to the subsystems linearity. The controllers are blend into one controller by employing fuzzy logic, the result is the fuzzy multiregional controller (FuMR). The stability analysis of nonlinear systems with FuMR controllers is provided. Examples illustrate the design procedure and the meaning of the stability criterion.
