Flood routing model using integration of Delft3D and GIS (case study: Tanggul watershed, Jember)

Flood disaster is one of the most common disasters in Jember District. One that is often affected is in 10% of the area of Jember District, namely the Tanggul watershed with an area of 345,875 km2. The condition of Tanggul River, with a length of 23.50 km, which tends to narrow and meander can reduce flow especially when the river discharge is enlarged due to rain. If rainfall is above 100 mm on the upstream part of the watershed, then the downstream of the Tanggul River with a length of ± 10.19 km that passes through Paseban Village, Kraton Village, and Kencong Village are often unable to withstand the discharge which will overflow the surrounding area. The history of flood occurences in the Tanggul watershed in the last 25 years had occurred 27 times, including 9 times which resulting in breakdown of the embankment. According to records from the Lumajang Public Works Office, the latest flood event in Tanggul River was occurred on December 22, 2018 with water elevation reaches 3.5 m and a discharge of 749,153 m3. This resulted in a broken embankment with a length of 60 m and a height of 7.2 m from the riverbed. Mitigation efforts such as flood routing to get an overview and information on overtopping points is needed to be done in order to minimize losses. This research aims to simulate flood using integration of the main programs DELFT3D and GIS. The flood routing model is obtained by utilizing a spatial model of analysis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to determine critical embankment or overtopping points and hydraulic flow simulation with DELFT3D program. The modeling results are visually compared with the coordinates of the flood events in the field that prepared by the Lumajang Public Works Office. Based on the 1000-year return period, the overtopping point occurs at ± 12.8 km from the downstream, namely Kencong District and ± 11.8 km from the downstream, namely Paseban District. In the end, this model can be used as a framework for the Tanggul waters

Tsunami simulation in Puger Beach considering the combination of earthquake source in South Java

Tsunami occurred on June 3, 1994, as a result of the earthquake in Banyuwangi at 10,477° South Latitude and 112,835° East Longitude with magnitude 7.2 SR. Tsunami in Banyuwangi causes 122 victims, 15 missing persons, 450 houses completely ruined, over 250 heavily damaged in Pancer village and 6 fishermen disappear. In 2006, The Pangandaran Tsunami also attacked coastal area in South Java. This study aims to model tsunami in Puger Beach using Delft3D with the combination of earthquake source characteristics in South Java. Bathymetry data and topography were taken from The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO). Delft3D Dashboard was utilized as a first step to create a model domain and simulation grid. Bathymetric interpolation to the simulation grid and initial surface elevation were also created from earthquake fault parameters using Delft3D Dashboard. After setting parameters, numerical simulation was carried out using Delft3D-FLOW. To conduct model validation, the data observation of the 1994 Banyuwangi tsunami from the previous research was utilized. The locations used for validation in this study were Cape Pelindu, Puger and Watu Ulo Beaches with the maximum water level 3.2 m, 4.88 m - 5.85 m and 6.5 m - 7.5 m, respectively. Simulations were divided into three scenarios. Scenario 1 was a simulation of the 1994 Banyuwangi tsunami. Scenario 2 was a simulation to represent the characteristic of fault from The 2006 Pangandaran Earthquake in Puger Beach. Scenario 3 was a combination between Scenario 1 and Scenario 2 which represented tectonic plate fault simulation. Based on the results of the simulation 3, the time of maximum tsunami height reached the study area at the 40 minutes and back to normal at 170 minutes. The greatest impact was created from Scenario 3 with tsunami heights of 10.91 meters to 22.34 meters.

The development of road evaluation and monitoring system using database application

Road infrastructure is one of a nation’s strategic assets. It accommodates the basic human needs to move from one place to another place in order to fulfill their needs. In Furthermore, to keep its optimum service level, this infrastructure requires a routine maintenance. In the present study, road geometric data, road distress type, road distress gps coordinates and cost estimation are integrated into one road maintenance database application. By doing data integration, the user can easily analyze the pavement maintenance strategies, and eventually this system database will give good contribution towards decision making process to achieve reliable road maintenance system and sustainable pavement. The observed road pavements were Joko Tingkir, Monginsidi, Ir. Juanda and Kyai Mojo—all of these are under the authority of Public Works Agency of Surakarta City Government. Relevant data were acquired by conducting field observation. The web database application is developed as a standalone extension from previously android-based application called Road Evaluation And Monitoring System (REMS). GPS coordinates, PCI index value derived from the calculation of distress type, distress area or volume and its deduct value were generated from REMS application. Distress type and severity was used to determine the maintenance method. Bina Marga’s standardized unit price indices and each road distress volume or area were used as base calculation to obtain final work unit price. The estimated maintenance cost for Joko Tingkir road is Rp28,087,654.29, Monginsidi road is Rp46,784,249.87, Ir. Juanda road is Rp266,780,014.78 and Kyai Mojo road is Rp76,584,885.27. All of the calculation results are displayed on the web-based interactive map layer, graph and tables for each of the observed roads. The table of road distress, maintenance and treatment recommendation are also displayed for detailed analysis.

Forecasting of origin-destination matrix of freight transportation of Surakarta with maximum likelihood method

Congestion is a major transportation problem endured by most cities since it potentially causes adverse impacts to the economic and social dimension as well as to the environment. Such a problem will become more complicated if it is not supported by an appropriate transportation planning. Therefore, an effort to estimate the impact of freight transportation on the road network performance becomes essential to reduce the potential congestion in the future, while the determination of OD Matrix is a crucial step in the process of transportation planning. The aim of this research was to estimate the OD Matrix of freight transportation of Surakarta City in 2025. The Gravity model was used to determine the OD matrix. Calibration of parameter β on gravity model was solved by maximum likelihood method. It found out the parameter value of β was 0.081. The result showed that the estimated total external-external freight transportation in the morning peak hour in 2025 reaches 2.642 pcu/hour.

Structural and functional prediction of pavement condition (A case study on south arterial road, Yogyakarta)

Pavement conditions will reduce the level of service over time. It is characterized by the occurrence of structural damage of the road pavement layers in which the neglect for a long period can worsen the condition of the pavement layers that can affect the traffic safety and comfort. Road pavement performance is determined based on the requirements of the functional and structural condition. The functional conditional requirements relate to roughness, pavement surface aggravation, while the structural condition requirements relate to the pavement strength or carrying capacity in serving the load and the traffic flow. The aim of this research is to evaluate the functional and structural of the flexible pavement on south arterial road in Yogyakarta and to provide recommendation of maintenance and rehabilitation. The functional evaluation of pavement is based on DGH and PCI method, which combines International Roughness Index (IRI) and Pavement Condition Index (PCI) values, while structural pavement evaluation is performed by analyzing the deflection value of Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) measurement analyzed by AASHTO 1993 with the output being the Structural Number (SN) value, where SN effective/SNfuture ratio results Structural Condition Index (SCI) value which determines whether a pavement requires overlay or not. The results of functional analysis based on IRI and PCI values indicate that the road conditions for each segment are good, damaged and heavily damaged. The structural analysis for 2018 shows all segments yield SCI value<1, which means they require an overlay. The segments requiring functional overlay are Km 00 + 000 up to 02 + 400, Km 04 + 400 up to 05 + 600, Km 07 + 600 up to 13 + 200, Km and Km 16 + 000 up to 18 + 400. Meanwhile, the segments that require structural overlay are: Km 02 + 400 up to 04 + 400, Km 05 + 600 up to 07 + 600 and Km 13 + 200 up to 16 + 000.

Impact of freight transportation on road network performance in Surakarta with toll road scenario

The increase in traffic growth is in line with the increase in transportation demand. Moreover, the freight movement is very important to support the economic growth and business in urban area, especially in developing countries, including Indonesia. In addition to its beneficial impact, freight transportation can also cause a serious problem, such as congestion, air pollution, and infrastructure damage. Such problems can be anticipated by good transportation planning. Studies related to freight transportation planning and modelling in Indonesia are very few hence we are interested in doing research about the impact of freight transportation on the road network performance in Surakarta with toll road scenario. One of the important aspect to predict the impact of freight transportation for the future planning is the trip distribution represented by Origin-Destination (OD) matrix. The purpose of this study was to examine the value of β as a parameter of gravity models and to evaluate the impact of freight transportation with toll road scenario in 2025. The result shows that the value of parameter β is 0.081. Road network performance as indicated by traffic volume per capacity (V/C) more than 1 without any scenario and with scenario in toll road is 18.8719% and 10.468%, respectively. It means that toll roads have significant contribution in reducing congestion level.

The basement construction of Solo Mix-used Development (MD) with limited land located in the center of Surakarta city requires the construction of basement as a parking most of that construction is made with soil excavation. This soil excavation can affect the water table around the project. This research aimed to figure out the rate of decreasing of the water table. The research methods which used were a study of soil characteristic and observation of wells. The study of soil was done by investigating 2 zones consisting of 5 drill points with a depth of 60 m and 40 m. The observation of wells was conducted at 25 m and 125 m distance from main well pumped with a variation of discharge capacity. The results of the soil investigation indicate that the water table at the location of the project site is between -3.1 m∼-3.2 m depth. The results of the decrease of the water table at 25m distance and distance 125m are 0.89 m and 1.82 m respectively. The decrease of the water table occurred in the extreme at the discharge of 1.30 m3/sec with the decrease of 5.27 m which can get the residents’ wells dry. It is expected that there is further information about the rate of the water table, so that it could be figured out the decrease of water table outside the location of the basement.

In this study aims to provide a comparison of rainfall plans using methods that are commonly used with Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) method. To conduct a design rain analysis often uses rain data outside the study area. In the last decade, theory has been developed to find design rain in a watershed that does not have a rain register station. This theory also needs to be studied more deeply and compared with the other theories that have been commonly used. The TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) method is a method that carries various sensors to detect atmospheric objects and phenomena and is designed to monitor and assess rain in the tropics. The main instruments in TRMM rainfall are TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI), The Precipitation Radar (PR), and the Visible and Infrared Radiometer System (VIRS). The result of the analysis can be concluded that in the rain plan with re-time under 50 years did not happen big difference. Whereas in the rain plan over 50 years there is a big difference.

In an irrigation system, one of the important activities in addition to maintenance is irrigation operations. The indicators of successful irrigation operations are the increased water use efficiency, the increased cropping intensity, the declined water-sharing conflicts, the increased agricultural production, and the decreased crop dryness. This research was conducted to know the success of irrigation operation in an irrigation area, which is Dimoro Irrigation Area at Karanganyar Regency. Data were taken from 2013 to 2016. The analysis was based on the AHP weighting, ranking scale and Permen PU No. 32/2007 to determine the performance condition of irrigation operations. The results of the performance of Dimoro Irrigation operations in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 were 74.38%, 81.96%, 90.12%, and 100%, respectively. It can be concluded that the performance of irrigation operations showed an increasing trend that indicates the success of irrigation operation in Dimoro Irrigation Area.

High intensity rain that happened in Padang city cause the happening of floods at DAS Arau. Floods that happened in Padang besides caused high rain intensity, require to be by research about morphometry that is cause parameter the happening of floods. Morphometry drainage basin physical network (DAS) quantitatively related to DAS geomorphology that is related to form of DAS, river network, closeness of stream, ramp, usage of farm, high and gradient steepness of river. Form DAS will influence rain concentration to outlet. Make an index to closeness of stream depict closeness of river stream at one particular DAS. Speed of river stream influenced by storey, level steepness of river. Steepness storey, level is comparison of difference height of river downstream and upstream. Ever greater of steepness of river stream, excelsior speed of river stream that way on the contrary. High to lower speed of river stream influence occurrence of floods, more than anything else if when influenced by debit big. Usage of farm in glove its link to process of infiltration where if geology type which is impermeable, be difficult the happening of infiltration, this matter will enlarge value of run off. Research by descriptive qualitative that is about characteristic of DAS. Method the used is method survey with data collecting, in the form of rainfall data of year 2005 until year 2015 and Image of DEM IFSAR with resolution 5 meter, analyzed use Software ARGIS. Result of research got by DAS reside in at condition of floods gristle.
