A central notion behind the field of cognitive infocommunications is that entangled sets of human and ICT capabilities, created through the co-evolution of humans together with ICT, can be conceptually represented and analyzed as new `cognitive entities'. This term, along with the concept of generation CE (in analogy with the generations X, Y and Z), has been recently introduced to characterize such entangled relationships in terms of functionally relevant units, and to describe the effects that such entangled relationships are having on the personal and social development of the new generation growing up today. In this paper, we make the case that a better understanding of cognitive-social-technological phenomena can be obtained when viewed through the lens of such concepts.

The paper studies the effect of the manipulation of the polytopic TP model representation of a given quasi Linear Parameter Varying (qLPV) state-space model on the control performance results. The investigated model in the case study consists of the extended, Stribeck friction included three degrees of-freedom version of the aero elastic wing section of the Nonlinear Aero elastic Test Apparatus (NATA) model. The investigation is carried out through the Tensor Product (TP) model transformation based control design Framework, which bridges the manipulation of the polytopic representation and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) based control design methods. different TP model representations of the given qLPV model are derived: a TP model representation with a sum-normalized non-negative (SNNN) convex hull, a TP model representation with a close to-normal (CNO) convex hull and interpolated TP model representations. Upon these representations Linear Matrix Inequality based design methods are applied to attain the controller and observer system components. The resulting control systems are tested through numerical simulation and their performance are compared and evaluated. The paper presents results, where the interpolated representations lead to better control performance results, which indicates, that the manipulation of the polytopic TP model representation may lead to further potential optimization possibilities. Also, this shows, that in order to find the optimal solution the manipulation is a necessary and important step.

The paper investigates and discusses the fact that there exists a significant difference and gap between the conventional mathematical modeling and computational techniques of control theory and the mathematical modeling and computational techniques beneficial of modeling cognitive processes or generally overall biological processes. This difference and gap represents a significant obstacle in designing control systems and theorems for cognitive or overall biological processes and systems. In this context the paper discusses and concludes pointing out the fact that the Tensor Product (TP) model transformation is a possible effective link and connector between the above mentioned two different mathematical modeling concepts.

The paper investigates how the complexity and the convex hull determined by the vertexes of the TP model representation of a given quasi Linear Parameter Varying state-space model influence the stable parameter region achievable via Linear Matrix Inequality based control design. The paper applies the Relaxed TP model transformation based control design Framework that supports both the complexity-accuracy trade-off of the TP model representation and convex hull manipulation separately executable on all components of the control system to be derived. Some specialization and further relaxation of the framework is also proposed here for frequent cases when all components of the system is handled in TP model form. The framework is also extended with a TP model interpolation technique to perform a systematic convex hull manipulation. The overall investigation is done on the complex NATA model of the three degree of freedom aeroelastic wing section model including Stribeck friction. The paper concludes and via the example proofs that both the complexity and the convex hull strongly influences the feasibility of the design. Further the paper proofs that the separate convex hull manipulation of the given model done for controller and the observer design also has to be taken into consideration.

In the context of the development of engineering systems, communication is often interpreted as a behavior that is planned for and implemented a priori, with a concrete use case in mind. In contrast, the natural world follows different patterns: function emerges through evolution, and communication emerges through a process known as (signal) ritualization. based on these differences, the concept of communication used in engineering would be worth broadening, in an effort to develop systems capable of exhibiting spontaneous communicative behaviors that evolve and develop into patterns through a history of interactions. In this paper, the concept of progressive CogInfoCom channels is proposed along with a generic framework for their implementation.

The paper shows an example when the tightening of the convex hull determined by the vertexes of the polytopic Tensor Product model representation of a given quasi Linear Parameter Varying state-space model leads to feasible Linear Matrix Inequality based control design. In addition the paper unveils that the relaxation of the Tensor Product model complexity interferes also with the Linear Matrix Inequality feasibility results. The example at hand consists of the complex Nonlinear Aeroelastic Test Apparatus model of the three degree of freedom aeroelastic wing section model including Stribeck friction. The relaxation and convex hull tightening is based on the concept of the Tensor Product model transformation.

With the growing relevance of human interaction with infocommunications in general and augmented/virtual environments in particular, it is becoming increasingly important to provide users with a “virtual physics” capable of emulating the richness and subtle informativeness of multimodal feedback in the physical world. In this paper, we describe an extension to an existing immersive virtual sketching application which consists of an oversketching interaction mode, and a set of associated audio-based feedback signals. The implemented oversketching functionality allows users make incremental corrections to the drawing, helping them to emphasize certain aspects while deemphasizing others. The audio-based feedback signals, in turn, support a better understanding of the progress of oversketching, when the goal is to transition from curved to straight line segments, or vice versa.
