In anticipating damages to buildings caused by earthquakes, many types of building constructions have been developed and studied. One of these is eccentrically braced frames that uses the link element as part of the structural element that serves to absorb seismic energy. When tested for its ductility, strength, rigidity and energy absorption, the long link performed more poorly compared to short ones. However, advantages of using long links includes space for architectural design and the ease of meeting building requirements. The focus of this study is to provide information on using supplemental double stiffeners on both sides of the web at the ends of long links. The behavior of long links is maintained by positioning the flange failures at the end of the link. The supplemental double stiffeners can improve performance of the long link due to the extension of the inelastic zone and the slowing of failure in the flange at both ends of the link. A numerical study was carried out on several specimens of the long link consisting of a standard specimen and specimens modified by the addition of supplemental double stiffeners. Long link specimens were modified by varying the thickness and hole width on the supplemental double stiffeners. The results showed that the addition of double stiffeners can improve the performance of long links compared to the standard link according to the requirements of AISC 341-10.

Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) is a cost-effective method in producing a variety of small and high performance parts. This paper investigates the influence of waste rubber binder combined with polyethylene binder on the properties of injection moulded 316L stainless steel. Feedstock formulation was prepared using 32 µm 316L SS powder and mixed with binder system containing 55 wt.% paraffin wax, 35 wt.% PE/WR and 10 wt.% stearic acid. The feedstock was then successfully injection moulded at powder loading of 0.65. The specimens were immersed in n-heptane for five hours at 60 °C in order to remove the paraffin wax and stearic acid. Debinding process produced the defect-free green parts. The parts were then sintered in vacuum atmosphere at temperature ranges of 1320 °C to 1360 °C. The results showed that the highest density achieved was 7.612 g/cm3 at temperature of 1360 °C with tensile strength of 497 MPa while the highest hardness was achieved at 274.8 HV.

In recent years, it has become a problem that office workers’ stresses affect their intellectual productivity. As one of strategies mitigating the stress while working, many studies on the effect of indoor plants introduced into the office have been conducted. The psychological and physiological effects of indoor plants have been expected to mitigate the office workers’ stresses. Also, the effects of green amenities such as improvement of productivity, control of the indoor thermal environment, relaxation and recovery of visual fatigue, and improvement of air quality have been expected. In this study, a field investigation on the green amenity effects of indoor plants on office workers’ psychological and physiological responses in an actual office was conducted and discussed. This paper describes the measurement results of the physical environment and workers’ psychological and physiological responses under the condition with shelves installed with indoor plants in an office room. It was suggested that indoor plants such as mint, basil and begonia, and a combination of red and green plants were effective for mitigating worker’s stresses.
