We propose a generalised diffusion-based file replication scheme for load balancing in unstructured P2P file-sharing networks. The generalised method is derived by replacing the replication probability of a peer used in our previous study with a new expression. In the previous expression, the replication probability is defined to be proportional to the difference between its own load and the average load of its neighbour peers. We show here that the replication probability can instead be expressed as a simple average of one defined to be negatively proportional to its own load and one defined to be proportional to the average load of its neighbour peers. The generalised method (a) includes the above three methods as special cases, (b) can control the trade-off between search and load balancing performances, (c) has a physical analogy to diffusion phenomena, and (d) achieves a good balance in the trade-off differently from our previous method. This paper characterizes distributed XML processing on networking nodes. XML documents are sent from a client node to a server node through relay nodes, which process the documents before arriving at the server. According as the node topology, the XML documents are processed in a pipelining manner or a parallel fashion. We evaluate distributed XML processing with synthetic and realistic XML documents on real and virtual environments. Characterization of well-formedness and grammar validation processing via pipelining and parallel models reveals inherent advantages of the parallel processing model.

Critical Current Densities and Force-displacement Characteristics of Fluxoids in Ba 1-x KxFe 2 As 2 Single Crystal

The superconducting Ba1- x K x Fe2As2 ( x = 0.4) single crystals were prepared by the so-called FeAs self-flux method. The critical temperature by ac susceptibility measurement was estimated to be about 36 K. The magnetic field and temperature dependences of critical current densities were investigated by an ac inductive measurement (Campbell's method). Unlike the phenomenon of co-existence of the global and local critical current densities observed in many polycrystalline Fe-based superconducting pnictides, it was found that only a uniform critical current density (Jc) flows through the whole sample. The value of Jc at 20 K and 1 T was about 5×108 A/m2, which is much smaller than the local critical current density observed in polycrystalline samples. The force-displacement characteristic of fluxoids in sample was investigated. The Labusch parameter was found to increase monotonously with increasing magnetic field, while the interaction distance was proportional to the fluxoid spacing. These results are consistent with the prediction based on a simple flux pinning mechanism.

We present a modified Newton minimization scheme for two-parameter inversion problems. Starting point is a so-called reduced-order objective function which measures the discrepancy between measured data and model-order reduction scattered field data. This objective function is minimized on a specified range of permittivity and conductivity values and a nonlinear transformation turns this constraint minimization problem into an unconstraint one. A backtracking procedure to obtain proper step lengths is implemented as well and a numerical example illustrates the performance of the method.

It is important to investigate condensation energy density of superconducting material, since it determines its pinning property. According to the heavy-ion irradiation, the columnar defects are introduced to the superconductor which act as the strong pinning centers, and the critical current density is enhanced by the new pinning centers. Since the number density and the size of the columnar defects can be observed, the condensation energy density is estimated by using the pinning summation theory. In the present study, we prepared Ba(Fe0.93Co0.07)2As2 (Ba-122) pnictide superconductors by self-ﬂux method. 200 MeV Au ions were irradiated into the specimens along c -axis and the matching ﬁeld was 2 T. After the irradiation, the critical current density was 6 times larger than that before the irradiation. The estimated condensation energy density is in the order of 10 4 J/m 3 and is slightly smaller than those of cuprate superconductors. The temperature dependence is similar to that of YBa2Cu3O x oxide superconductors, since the anisotropy parameter is small in Ba-122. Therefore, it is expected to use Ba-122 at high temperatures near the critical temperature.

In designing e-learning, it is desirable that individual learner's learning style is considered. This study proposes a way to present the information about the expected adaptability of the course, in which a student wishes to enroll, based on the student's responses to the learning preference questionnaire administered at the beginning of the course. As the result of applying the real data to the model derived, it was confirmed that it would be possible to estimate the course adaptability before taking the course and to provide the information for the student to improve his/her course adaptability based on the student's responses to the learning preference questionnaire. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

In this review paper, we report the characteristics of the critical current density in FeAs based superconductors which is newly discovered by Hosono group of Tokyo Institute of Technology on 2008. Since the many specimens in present stage are not single crystals, there are two kinds of critical current density observed in the specimens which are so-called local and global critical current densities. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate both kinds of critical current densities. The history effect in which the global critical current density shows different values in increasing and decreasing magnetic field is also observed when the specimens have the local and the global critical current densities. The wire which critical current is 180 A is successfully developed with using the knowledge of abovementioned characteristics of two kinds of critical current densities and the history effect.

The time-domain receiving properties of a multi-mode cylindrical waveguide antenna are investigated. The configurational properties of the antenna are characterized by the time-domain scattering matrix that interrelates the time-domain amplitudes of the axial modal constituents traveling towards and away from the radiating aperture of the waveguide, which is taken as their reference plane. The excitation of the system by an incident field is expressed as an excitation integral over the aperture that results from the application of the pertaining time-domain Lorentz reciprocity relation of the time-convolution type. Numerical results illustrate the complexity of the changes in pulse shape (with the associated loss of signal integrity) that occur upon the coupling of the incident wave to the different modal constituents. © 2011 EurAAP.

The functionality of a distributed system can be significantly enhanced by exploring non-traditional approaches that leverage on inherent aspects of distributed systems in space. Till now, the benefit of distributed systems in space has been limited to enhancing coverage, multipoint sensing, creating virtual baselines (e.g. interferometry) or to enhance redundancy. The list of benefits can be further expanded by understanding the nature of distributed systems and by productively incorporating it into mission and spacecraft design. For example, prior knowledge of the spatial evolution of such systems can lead to innovative communication architectures for these distributed systems. In this paper, different communication scenarios are investigated that can enhance the communication link between the distributed system and ground. The increasing trend towards highly miniaturized spacecraft (nano to femto-satellites] and proposals to launch hundreds or even thousands of them in massively distributed space missions have expanded the interest in distributed systems in space. It is important to understand how and which, functionalities and systems, scale with size and number. Scalable systems are defined and addressed at a basic level. In this paper we focus on the communication capability and identify methods to enhance the communication link between the space segment and earth with a network of simplistic femto-satellites. As an example, the concept of forming a dynamic phased array in space with the elements of a distributed space system in low-earth orbit is investigated. At the ground receiver, the signals from different satellites forming the array should not differ in phase by more than one-third the transmission wavelength. Realizing such a phased array places strict accuracy requirements on time synchronization and knowledge of relative separation between the satellites with respect to the ground receiver.
