Refinement of TiB_(2)Powders with High-speed Planetary Mill and Its Effect on TiB_(2)Sinterability

Titanium diboride ceramic was produced via spark plasma sintering(SPS)using finer TiB_(2)powder made by high-speed planetary ball *** effects of ball milling parameters on the composites and particle size of TiB_(2)powder were *** was shown that the average particle size of TiB_(2)powder decreased from 5.8 to 1.59μm and the wear rate of WC balls was 1.58 wt%,when the ball-to-powder weight ratio(BPR),the rotary speed and milling time and were 10:1,600 rpm and 20 min,*** content of WC in TiB_(2)powder can be limited below 4.58 vol%by optimizing the milling *** sintering temperature of TiB_(2)powder milled can be decreased obviously,and the mechanical properties are evidently improved and the microstructure becomes more homogeneous when the powder of TiB_(2)becomes *** relative density,hardness,bending strength,and fracture toughness of the TiB_(2)ceramic fabricated at 1700℃reach the optimal values,which are 98.13%,19.14 GPa,756 MPa,and 5.71 MPa·m~(1/2),*** decrease of TiB_(2)particle size and the introduction of WC are the potential reasons for the improvement of TiB_(2)ceramic performance.

Local phase transition in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) by lithiumintercalation enables the fabrication of high-quality contact interfaces in twodimensional(2D) electronic devices. However, controlling the intercalation oflithium is hitherto challenging in vertically stacked van der Waalsheterostructures (vdWHs) due to the random diffusion of lithium ions in thehetero-interface, which hinders their application for contact engineering of 2DvdWHs devices. Herein, a strategy to restrict the lithium intercalation pathwayin vdWHs is developed by using surface-permeation assisted intercalationwhile sealing all edges, based on which a high-performance edge-contact MoS_(2)vdWHs floating-gate transistor is demonstrated. Our method avoids intercalationfrom edges that are prone to be random but intentionally promotes lithiumintercalation from the top surface. The derived MoS_(2) floating-gatetransistor exhibits improved interface quality and significantly reduced subthresholdswing (SS) from >600 to 100 mV dec^(–1). In addition, ultrafast program/erase performance together with well-distinguished 32 memory statesare demonstrated, making it a promising candidate for low-power artificialsynapses. The study on controlling the lithium intercalation pathways in 2DvdWHs offers a viable route toward high-performance 2D electronics for memoryand neuromorphic computing purposes.

Effect of La on microstructure,mechanical properties and fracture behavior of Al/Mg bimetallic interface manufactured by compound casting

To improve the Al/Mg bimetallic interface,La was added into the Al/Mg bimetallic interface manufactured by a compound casting *** effect of La addition on the microstructure,mechanical properties and fracture behavior of the Al/Mg bimetallic interface and the formation mechanism of the interface were studied in ***_(11)La_(3),Al_(8)Mn_(4)La,Al_(20)Ti_(2)La,and other rare earth precipitates(RE precipitates)preferentially precipitated at the interface with La addition,while the number of the Al_(11)La_(3)and Al_(8)Mn_(4)La located in eutectic structure area(E area)gradually increased and aggregated in the interface with the increase of the La ***,the matrix structure in different areas of the Al/Mg interface changed in different degrees,and the eutectic structure and primaryγ(Mg_(17)Al_(12))dendrites in the E area were refned,but the intermetallic compounds area(IMC area)had no obvious *** the addition of the La,the interface was strengthened under the comprehensive effect of refnement strengthening and precipitation strengthening from the E *** the La content increased to 1.0%,the shear strength of the Al/Mg bimetal reached the maximum of 51.54 MPa,which was 30.95%higher than the group without La ***,with the further increase of the La content,the large area aggregation of the Al_(11)La_(3)and Al_(8)Mn_(4)La occurred in the interface,leading to the separation of the matrix structure of the E area and the decrease of the shear strength of the Al/Mg interface.

Interfacial atomic configuration between dual-metal active species and nitrogen-carbon substrates is of great importance for improving the intrinsic activity of catalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).Thus,from the atomic-scale engineering we develop a high intrinsic activity ORR catalyst in terms of incorporating atomically dispersed dual Fe centers(single Fe atoms and ultra-small Fe atomic clusters)into bamboo-like N-doped carbon *** from atomically dispersed dual-Fe centers on the atomic interface of Fe-Nx/carbon nanotubes,the fabricated dual Fe centers catalyst exhibits an extremely high ORR activity(E_(onset)=1.006 V;E_(1/2)=0.90 V),beyond state-of-the-art Pt/***,this catalyst also shows a superior kinetic current density of 19.690 mA·cm^(−2),which is 7 times that of state-of-the-art Pt/***,based on the excellent catalyst,the primary Zn-air battery reveals a high power density up to 137 mW·cm^(−2) and sufficient potential cycling stability(at least 25 h).Undoubtedly,given the unique structure–activity relationship of dual-Fe active species and metal-nitrogen-carbon substrates,the catalyst will show great prospects in highly efficient electrochemical energy conversion devices.

Li3N film modified separator with homogenization effect of lithium ions for stable lithium metal battery

Lithium metal anode with high theoretical capacity is considered to be one of the most potential anode materials of the next generation. However, the growth of lithium dendrite seriously affects the application of lithium metal anode and the development of lithium metal batteries（LMBs）. Herein, an ultrathin Li3N film modified separator to homogenize the lithium ions and protect the lithium metal anode was reported. Due to the intrinsic properties of Li3N, the functional separator possessed good thermal stability, mechanical properties and electrolyte wettability, and the homogenization of the lithium ion was realized without increasing the interface impedance. With this functional separator, the Li/Li symmetrical cell could achieve a long cycle with low overpotential for 1000 h at a current density of 1 m A cm-2. Furthermore, when the full battery was assembled with Li FePO4and the discharge capacity could be maintained at 151 m Ah g-1after 400 cycles at 1 C. In addition, the full battery also showed good rate performance, and provided a high discharge capacity of 114 m Ah g-1at 5 C.

Owing to adjustable microstructure and stable physiochemical properties,carbon-based materials are regarded as promising materials as anodes for potassium-ion batteries(PlBs).Building amorphous structure and introducing defects are favorable methods to generate active sites and improve the electrochemical performances of carbon-based *** this work,we develop a facile carbonization method to prepare sulfur-doped amorphous carbon microspheres with hierarchical structure and modulated defects concentration(S-CM-700) for potassium *** from the special microstructure,S-CM-700 exhibits the optimal performance and obtains high reversible capacity of 199.6 mAh·g^(-1) at 100 mA·g^(-1),excellent rate property and prominent durability(0.0055%capacity decay per cycle during 1800 cycles).Kinetics analysis and electrochemical characterization are carried out to reveal that the potassium storage could be boosted by regulating the defect level,layer spacing and the content of *** work provides a general synthesis approach to prepare sustainable carbon anodes for advanced PlBs.

Superior stable high-voltage LiCoO_(2) enabled by modification with a layer of lithiated polyvinylidene fluoride-derived LiF

High-voltage LiCoO_(2) (LCO) can deliver a high capacity and therefore significantly boost the energy density of Li-ion batteries (LIBs). However, its cyclability is still a major problem in terms of commercial applications. Herein, we propose a simple but effective method to greatly improve the high-voltage cyclability of an LCO cathode by constructing a surface LiF modification layer via pyrolysis of the lithiated polyvinylidene fluoride (Li-PVDF) coating under air atmosphere. Benefitting from the good film-forming and strong adhesion ability of Li-PVDF, the thus-obtained LiF layer is uniform, dense, and conformal;therefore, it is capable of acting as a barrier layer to effectively protect the LCO surface from direct exposure to the electrolyte, thus suppressing the interfacial side reactions and surface structure deterioration. Consequently, the high-voltage stability of the LCO electrode is significantly enhanced. Under a high charge cutoff voltage of 4.6 V, the LiF-modified LCO (LiF@LCO) cathode demonstrates a high capacity of 201 mA h g^(−1) at 0.1 C and a stable cycling performance at 0.5 C with 80.5% capacity retention after 700 cycles, outperforming the vast majority of high-voltage LCO cathodes reported so far.

Novel specular-reflection bandpass filter based on composite metagratings

Effect of the capsule on deformation and densification behavior of nickel-based superalloy compact during hot isostatic pressing

The Shima yield criterion used in finite element analysis for nickel-based superalloy powder compact during hot isostatic pressing(HIP) was modified through uniaxial compression experiments. The influence of cylindrical capsule characteristics on FGH4096M superalloy powder compact deformation and densification behavior during HIP was investigated through simulations and experiments. Results revealed the simulation shrinkage prediction fitted well with the experimental shrinkage including a maximum shrinkage error of 1.5%. It was shown that the axial shrinkage was 1.7% higher than radial shrinkage for a cylindrical capsule with the size of ∮50 mm × 100 mm due to the force arm difference along the axial and radial direction of the capsule. The stress deviated from the isostatic state in the capsule led to the uneven shrinkage and non-uniform densification of the powder compact. The ratio of the maximum radial displacement to axial displacement increased from0.47 to 0.75 with the capsule thickness increasing from 2 to 4 mm. The pressure transmission is related to the capsule thickness, the capsule material performance, and physical parameters in the HIP process.
