Image-guided and minimally invasive procedures still require confirmation on having reached a target. Intraoperative imaging is not always sufficient or conclusive as it comes with artifacts that can come with a certain amount of ambiguity and inaccurate location information. As an alternative to imaging, we want to explore sounds produced by the biopsy needle tip while advancing and interacting with tissue. In this paper, we show that by analyzing vibroacoustic signals acquired at the proximal end of the needle we are able to differentiate the tissue type. In total, 419 audio samples of 5 tissues were acquired and converted to spectrograms used as input to a convolutional neural network. Using this experimental setup we were able to differentiate the tissue types with an F1 score of 71.64%. Based on these results we were able to demonstrate the feasibility of our approach, as well as the importance of further experiments to ensure that vibroacoustic sounds produced by the needle tip can be a new navigation method. © 2023 the author(s), published by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.

Cyber persecution has become a widespread problem on the social media. It has resulted in omissions such as suicide and sadness. Content regulation on social media sites is becoming increasingly important. The following work employs natural language processing and Machine Learning techniques to construct a cyber harassment detection model utilizing data from cyberbullying, hate speech tweets from Twitter, and personal assaults from Wikipedia. The optimal approach is investigated by two feature extraction methods and six classifiers (SVM, Random Forest, XGBoost, MLP, and Logistic Regression). This study summarizes the general procedure for detecting cyberbullying and, more crucially, the technique. During experimentation, SVM, Random Forest, and Logistic Regression performed well with an average of 90%. Our model has been created to detect offensive comments on social media websites. © 2024 IEEE.

This research presents a novel electromagnetic-based sensor for inline measurement of unmilled rice paddy moisture content in the rice mill factory. The proposed sensor has been designed based on the modified planar dipole structure at the operating frequency of 440 MHz. The unmilled rice dielectric constant properties have been studied and applied for characterizing the moisture content. The unmilled rice moisture content sensor system then has been designed consisting of the proposed sensor, a microwave signal generator, a microwave signal detector, and a microcontroller. The moisture content sensor system has been implemented and used for measuring the unmilled rice paddy moisture content in a real rice mill factory in Udon Thani province, Thailand. When compared with the commercial rice moisture content tool based on a capacitance technique, the proposed rice moisture content sensor system gives almost same results, which only about 4% difference has been found. © 2024 IEEE.

This research explores a new finite element model for the free vibration analysis of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) beams. The model is based on an efficient higher-order shear deformation beam theory that incorporates a trigonometric warping function for both transverse shear deformation and stress to guarantee traction-free boundary conditions without the necessity of shear correction factors. The proposed two-node beam element has three degrees of freedom per node, and the inter-element continuity is retained using both C1 and C0 continuities for kinematics variables. In addition, the mechanical properties of the (BDFG) beam vary gradually and smoothly in both the in-plane and out-of-plane beam’s directions according to an exponential power-law distribution. The highly elevated performance of the developed model is shown by comparing it to conceptual frameworks and solution procedures. Detailed numerical investigations are also conducted to examine the impact of boundary conditions, the bi-directional gradient indices, and the slenderness ratio on the free vibration response of BDFG beams. The suggested finite element beam model is an excellent potential tool for the design and the mechanical behavior estimation of BDFG structures. © 2024 Techno-Press, Ltd.

The study presents a comprehensive review on the utilization of hydrogen as an energy carrier, examining its properties, storage methods, associated challenges, and potential future implications. Hydrogen, due to its high energy content and clean combustion, has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels in the quest for sustainable energy. Despite its benefits, the storage of hydrogen presents significant technical challenges due to its low density and high reactivity. This study discusses various storage methods, including compression, liquefaction, and adsorption in metal hydrides and other complex compounds, elucidating their advantages and drawbacks. The challenges in adopting hydrogen as an energy carrier, such as production costs, safety concerns, and infrastructure requirements are also explored. The future implications of hydrogen are promising but dependent on technological advancements and policy interventions. Transitioning to hydrogen as a major energy carrier could greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lead to more resilient and diversified energy systems. Nonetheless, this transition requires substantial innovation and investment in cleaner production methods, efficient storage systems, and supportive infrastructure. The measurement of the central exclusive production of charged hadron pairs h+h- (h = p, K, p) by the STAR experiment at RHIC is reported. The data from proton-proton collisions at vs = 200 GeV were used in this study. The pairs of charged hadrons produced in the reaction pp ? p0+h+h-+p0 were reconstructed from the tracks in the central detector, while the forward-scattered protons were measured in the Roman Pot system. Differential cross sections were measured in the fiducial region determined by the geometrical acceptance of the experimental setup. They were compared to phenomenological predictions based on the Double Pomeron Exchange model. The fiducial p+p- cross section was extrapolated to the Lorentz-invariant region, which allowed decomposition of the invariant mass spectrum into continuum and resonant contributions. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

K-Nearest Neighbors is a widely used algorithm due to its simplicity and efficacity. However, KNN suffers from many drawbacks, such as it does not work well with datasets with a high number of features. Also, not all the features contribute to the classification process. To resolve these issues, we present an improved KNN algorithm which uses KNN as a base learner in an ensemble method and correlation for selecting the features subsets. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm performed better than other machine learning algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Using the small-x improved transverse momentum dependent factorization (ITMD), which, for a general two-to-two massless scattering can be proved within the color glass condensate (CGC) theory for transverse momenta of particles greater than the saturation scale, we provide predictions for isolated forward photon and jet production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions within the planned ALICE FoCal detector acceptance. We study azimuthal correlations, $$p_T$$ spectra, as well as normalized ratios of proton-proton cross sections for different energies. The only TMD distribution needed for that process is the “dipole” TMD gluon distribution, which in our computations is based on HERA data and undergoes momentum space BK evolution equation with DGLAP corrections and Sudakov resummation. We conclude, that the process provides an excellent probe of the dipole TMD gluon distribution in saturation regime.

The proposed Large Hadron-electron Collider and the Future Circular Collider in electron-hadron mode allow the study of DIS in the TeV regime. These facilities will provide electron-hadron collisions, with instantaneous luminosity around 1034 cm−2 s−1 in electron-proton case, by colliding a 50 GeV electron beam from a highly innovative energy-recovery linac system with the LHC/FCC hadron beams, concurrently with other experiments for hadron-hadron collisions. The detector design was updated in the 2020 Conceptual Design Report. Ongoing developments since then include an improved interaction region design, reflecting state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation simulations, together with a more detailed study of an all-silicon central tracking detector. Additional capabilities for particle identification, enabling improved semi-inclusive DIS and eA studies, are also underway. In this article, we describe the current detector design and ongoing discussion in the framework of a new ep/eA study being carried out on behalf of CERN, highlighting areas of common interest with other future collider experiments and the new Detector R&D Collaborations in Europe. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
