Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, and early diagnosis is crucial for its effective treatment. That is why computer-aided tools have been developed to support particular steps of CT scan analysis, including lung segmentation, suspicious region detection, and patient-level diagnosis. However, none of the previous approaches addressed this process comprehensively. To fill this gap, we introduce CompLung, a comprehensive tool for lung cancer diagnosis that performs all of the above-listed steps in an end-to-end manner. We have trained the CompLung architecture using the publicly available LIDC-IDRI dataset extended with lung segmentation masks obtained from our internal radiologists, which we make publicly available to boost the research on this emerging topic. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments and demonstrate the superior performance and interpretability of CompLung compared to existing methods for lung cancer diagnosis. © 2023 The Authors.

This elaboration presents the synthesis of the Takagi-Sugeno type Fuzzy Logic controller realizing the programmable parameters of the state feedback controller together with the steady state current for the active magnetic levitation system. Closed-loop dynamics was calculated precisely with respect to the requested dynamics. Two cases were considered: fixed-and variable-closed-loop dynamics. The Fuzzy Logic Controller was considered under four scenarios with linear, nonlinear, and constant in-range output. The study was supported by simulations and experimental investigations. The position of the levitating sphere stands as an illustration of the system in operation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Using experimental results related to the biosorption of Fe(III) by activated carbon derived from olive pit waste, we developed and evaluated four artificial neural network (ANN) models in this study, namely MLP-ANN, RBF-ANN, GR-ANN, and PSO-ANN, to predict the removal efficiency of Fe(III) during the adsorption process. The purpose of these models was to forecast the effect of the following five important operational variables: the initial concentration, time, stirring speed, temperature, and biosorbent dose. We conducted a thorough assessment of the performance of these models and compared their ability to predict the removal capacity. Several statistical metrics have been used to quantify the quality of the different models. The results calculated by the machine learning models were analyzed and compared with the experimental results. The obtained values of the coefficient of determination were 0.9997 for the PSO-ANN model, 0.991 for the GR-ANN model, 0.983 for the RBF-ANN model, and 0.837 for the MLP-ANN model concerning the removal efficiency. All the studied models are able to accurately predict the adsorbed quantity. ANOVA analysis was used to evaluate the effect of the parameters inherent to the PSO-ANN model. The PSO-ANN model proves to be a powerful tool for estimating the efficiency of Fe(III) ion removal. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024. corrected publication 2024.

In aquaculture, dissolved oxygen (DO) levels affect fish growth and survival. Automated monitoring and prediction of DO is challenging and becomes expensive if unnecessary sensors are used. This study aims to identify the optimal water and environmental parameters for DO prediction. Data from the fishpond station of Rajabhat Rajanagarindra university were pre-processed and used for training using LSTM, GRU, BiLSTM, and BiGRU. The performance of the models was evaluated and contrasted using three error measures. The results showed that GRU gave the best performance compared to the other models. In conclusion, the best parameters for DO prediction are water pH and water temperature. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper we propose a novel algorithm based on the use of Principal Components Analysis for the determination of spherical coordinates of sampled cosmic ray flux distribution. We have also applied a deep neural network with encoder-decoder (E-D) architecture in order to filter-off variance noises introduced by sampling. We conducted a series of experiments testing the effectiveness of our estimations. The training set consisted of 92 250 images and validation set of 37 800 images. We have calculated mean absolute error (MAE) between real values and estimations. The internal structure of nucleons and interactions between their components have been debated ever since the existence of quarks was postulated. A lot of experimental evidence has been gathered, indicating that nucleons and their excited states are not simple static quark states but are significantly influenced by the dynamics of baryon-meson interactions. In this context it is interesting to extend internal structure studies to hyperons, particles where one light quark of a nucleon is replaced by a heavier strange quark, e.g. Λ, Σ or Σ+(1385), or excited states such as: Λ(1520) or Λ(1405). Many competing models, including also those based on the dynamical state generation, try to describe the internal structure of these hyperons. The predictions are sensitive to e.g. relative widths of radiative decays of hyperons. In order to discriminate between models, it is helpful to measure radiative decays (with emission of a γ or e+e-pairs) and hadronic decays, e.g. Λ(1520) → Σ+(1385) π-, ?(1405) → Σ π. These decays are largely unexplored at present and are the motivation for the project presented in this talk. The goal of this project is to study the production of Σ+(1385), Λ(1520) and Λ(1405) hyperons produced in proton-proton at beam energies ranging from 3.5 GeV to 4.5 GeV with HADES detector at FAIR. The analysis described in this work is a first step in this direction and presents results of Σ+(1385) production in p + p at 3.5 GeV. © 2023 Sissa Medialab Srl. All rights reserved.

The motivation of this research is to study the effect of suction process on a growing gas bubble and concentration distribution around this bubble in tissues of divers who surface too *** effect of bubble motion is also *** method of combined variables is used to solve the problem by combining the radial and time variables into one variable by using a suitable similarity transformation that enables to divide the diffusion equation into two ODEs,the first concerns to concentration distribution and the other concerns to the bubble radius *** resultant formulae are valid for both growth stages whenever the ambient pressure is variable at ascending of the diver,or constant as the diving stops or at *** effects of physical parameters are discussed when applying suction process and show that the dominant parameter is the initial void *** research findings reveal the role of suction process to activate the systemic blood circulation and delay the growth of gas bubbles in the tissues and reduce the incidence of decompression illness(DCI).This research also provides evidenceand agrees with the previous experimental studies to support the use of suction therapy to reduce the DCI harmful effects.

We present TAO (The Arcarium Ontology), an ontology that will serve as the backbone of the forthcoming Arcarium knowledge base for storing and retrieving rich metadata of manuscript collections housed at Jagiellonian university (Kraków, Poland). The main motivation for its creation is the ongoing digitization of the precious Autograph Collection from the so-called Berlin Collection, however, the resulting solution is intended to be as universal as possible to allow metadata acquisition in a wide variety of projects. Therefore, the proposed ontology, in addition to the document properties collected by experts analyzing the digitized collection, also includes concepts and relationships from the Europeana Data Model (EDM), CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CIDOC CRM), Records in Contexts Ontology (RiC-O), Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and Gemeinsame Normdate (GND), thus enabling integration with external knowledge bases and facilitating advanced research scenarios in the digital humanities. Although still a work in progress, yet the ontology has already been fed with the first real instances—the documents described in the digitization pilot—and discussed with an international panel of experts, which allowed its critical evaluation and indication of its usefulness for the Arcarium system under development. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Momentum-dependent measures of correlations between mean transverse momentum and harmonic flow in heavy-ion collisions

The correlation between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow coefficients is an observable which is of great interest; it is sensitive to shape fluctuations in the initial state of a relativistic nuclear collision. The measurement of that correlation coefficient in central collisions allows one to infer about the intrinsic deformation of the colliding nuclei. We propose to study the momentum-dependent covariance and correlation coefficient between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow in a given transverse momentum bin. Two possible constructions of such observables are provided and predictions are obtained from a viscous hydrodynamic model. We find that such momentum-dependent correlation coefficients between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow show a strong and nontrivial momentum dependence. We also explore the effects of granularity (nucleon width) in the initial state, the nuclear deformation, and the shear viscosity on this momentum-dependent correlation coefficient. The shape of the momentum dependence of the correlation coefficient for the triangular flow is found to be sensitive to the size of small-scale fluctuations in the initial state. On the other hand, the shape of the momentum dependence of the covariance between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow coefficients is found to be sensitive to the value of the shear viscosity and to the granularity of the initial state.
