In this work, we employed a machine learning approach to predict the performance parameters of CNT bundle network field-effect transistors (FETs). The CNT bundle network FETs are complex system not only due to the random nature of the network but also due to the conductivity and work functions of bundles with both metallic and semiconducting tubes. It is difficult to model a whole network of CNT bundles with unknown conductivity and work function. In a recent work we examined 119 devices for investigate the role of CNT junctions in the electrical conduction and gating of CNT network FETs under liquid gated conditions. In this work we used the experimental data to train and predict the performance using the Support vector machine (SVM) technique. The CNT bundle density of the film measured by atomic force microscope images was used as the input parameter and the on-current, off-current and threshold voltage were the target. We were able to estimate the on current with an accuracy better than 90 percentage. However OFF current and threshold voltage prediction has an accuracy about 82 and 77 percent respectively. The 90-percentage accuracy for the on-current prediction can be attributed to the strong dependency of on-current with the CNT bundle density. However, the off-current and threshold voltage are depending on other parameters namely the presence of metallic CNTs within the bundles and the overall variations in the composition of network. Based on the experimental results, despite the unknown variables, we managed to predict the electronic parameters of a CNT network FETs with using the SVM techniques with significantly high accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Formation of Complex Discrete Time Crystals with Ultracold Atoms

We study discrete time crystal formation in a system driven periodically by an oscillating atomic mirror, consisting of two distinct ultracold atomic clouds in the presence of a gravitational field. The intra-species interactions are weak and attractive, while the inter-species interactions are infinitely strong and repulsive. The clouds are arranged in a one-dimensional stack, where the bottom cloud bounces on an oscillating atomic mirror, which effectively acts as a driving force for the upper cloud due to the infinite inter-species repulsion. Using a Jastrow-like variational ansatz for the many-body wavefunction, we show that sufficiently strong attractive intra-species interactions drive each subsystem to spontaneously break discrete time translation symmetry, resulting in the formation of a complex discrete time crystal evolving with a period different than the driving period. Since the bottom cloud serves as the effective periodic driving for the upper cloud, this leads to a cascade of spontaneous symmetry breaking. With increasing intra-species interactions, we first observe a pronounced effect of spontaneous time translation symmetry breaking in the upper cloud, followed by a similar effect in the lower atomic cloud. © 2025, CC BY.

We study the effect of magnon interactions on the spin wave spectra of the all-in-all-out phase of the pyrochlore nearest neighbour antiferromagnet with a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (D). The leading order corrections to spin wave energies indicate a significant renormalisation for commonly encountered strengths of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya term. For low values of D we find a potential instability of the phase itself, indicated by the renormalisation of magnon frequencies to negative values. We have also studied the renormalized spectra in the presence of magnetic fields along three high symmetry directions of the lattice, namely the [111], [100] and [110] directions. Generically, we find that for a fixed value of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction renormalized spectra for the lowest band decrease with an increasing strength of the field. We have also analyzed the limits of the two magnon continuum and probed the possibility of magnon decay. For a range of D and the field strength we identify possible parameter regimes where the decay of the higher bands of the system are kinematically allowed. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Identification of the Boundary Condition of Heat Transfer During Spray Cooling Process of the Oxidized Surface

The paper presents the changes in the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and heat flux (HF) during the water-air spray cooling of the metal plate on the surface of which the thickness of the oxidized layer changed. The experimental investigations consisted in measuring the temperature changes inside the plate during spray cooling with water from 700°C to the ambient temperature. The plate was made of the material (Armco steel), the surface of which had been oxidized during heating. Three measurements were made for three different thickness of the oxidized layer. The size of the area related with the directed impact of the spray water on the surface (high impingement zone) and the size of the secondary water flow zone (horizontal flow zone) that was placed beyond the high impingement zone were assessed. The distribution of the water flux density over the cooled surface was determined as well as the increase in the thickness of the oxidized layer with the heating time. The experimental investigations allowed to identify HTC and HF by using the inverse method. The uncertainty tests that allowed to determine the accuracy of the inverse solution were performed. The obtained results shows that the development of the boiling process on the surface covered with the oxidized layer is local, which results in a large heterogeneity of the HTC and HF distribution. In the high impingement zone, the increase in the thickness of the oxidized layer from 0.018 to 0.035 mm significantly influences the changes of HF and HTC during each boiling phase. The increase in the thickness of the oxidized layer caused a shift of the maximum HF and the beginning of the transition boiling towards a higher surface temperature. Outside the high impingement zone the influence of the increase in the thickness of the oxidized layer is small during film boiling phase. The present work investigates, for the first time, the synthesis of a composite film based on glutaraldehyde-cross-linked chitosan (GA-CS) and a natural zeolite (H-ZSM-5) and its application for the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous solutions under wide experimental conditions. The composite film (GA-CS-ZEO) characterization by using various analytical techniques confirms its successful production with promising physical, chemical, and thermal properties. The use of the response surface methodology (RSM) for the optimization of the Cr(VI) adsorption by this composite shows that that the maximum removal efficiency (82.39%) was achieved for a Cr(VI) concentration of 50 mg L−1, an initial pH of 2.0, a contact time of 100 min, and a temperature of 20 °C. Moreover, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and 3D graphs indicated that the pH and initial Cr(VI) concentration were the main factors that influence the Cr(VI) uptake efficiency. Besides that, the Cr(VI) removal by the GA-CS-ZEO was found to be spontaneous and endothermic and occurs mainly via physical mechanisms involving electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding. Regeneration study of the Cr(VI)-loaded composite showed that Cr(VI) can be rapidly and efficiently desorbed by 0.1 M sulfuric acid. The results of the current research work highlight the important adsorption potential of Cr(VI) by the GA-CS-ZEO composite film and underscore its attractiveness and suitability for water treatment applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

We present a combined growth and transport study of superconducting single-crystalline NdO0.5F0.5BiS2. Evidence of two-dimensional superconductivity with significant phase fluctuations of preformed Cooper pairs preceding the superconducting transition is reported. This result is based on three key observations. (1) The resistive superconducting transition temperature Tc (defined by resistivity ρ→0) increases with increasing disorder. (2) As T→Tc, the conductivity diverges significantly faster than what is expected from Gaussian fluctuations in two and three dimensions. (3) Non-Ohmic resistance behavior is observed in the superconducting state. Altogether, our observations are consistent with a temperature regime of phase-fluctuating superconductivity. The crystal structure with magnetic ordering tendencies in the NdO0.5F0.5 layers and (super)conductivity in the BiS2 layers is likely responsible for the two-dimensional phase fluctuations. As such, NdO0.5F0.5BiS2 falls into the class of unconventional “laminar” bulk superconductors that include cuprate materials and 4Hb−TaS2.

Band structure of a nonparabolic two-dimensional electron gas system

Using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), we study the band structures of two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) formed at Te-doped surfaces of InAs(110), as a result of band bending. The selected surface system is very clean and stable; therefore, ARPES spectra may be registered in short times, with minimal adsorption of residual gases and no photon beam-induced damage. We record a set of data that allows for a detailed analysis of the 2DEG band shapes, their thermal dependencies, and for an assessment of the many-body interactions. We find the electron-phonon interaction extremally weak and the electron-electron interactions hidden in dominant electron-donor interactions. While 2DEG band shapes are observed to be variable in correlation with the 2DEG density, this is tracked down to the variability of the band-bending potential and nonparabolicity of the system, and not to the many-body interactions. Thus, many-body renormalization of the 2DEG bands is not required, and the bands are described well by using the one-electron theoretical frame.

The gravitational lensing effect at higher order under weak-field approximation is believed to be important to distinguish black holes and other compact objects such as wormholes. The deflection angle of a generic wormhole is difficult to solve analytically; thus approximation methods are implemented. In this paper, we investigate the weak-field deflection angle of a specific wormhole, the Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole, up to the 1/b4 order. We use different approximation formalisms, study their precision at 1/b4 order by a comparison to a purely numerical result, and finally rank these formalisms by their accuracy. Moreover, we find that certain formalisms are sensitive to the choice of coordinate system; thus it is important to choose the coordinate system appropriately for the evaluating of lensing physics.

We have investigated the spectroscopic properties of Pr3+-doped and Pr3+/Yb3+-codoped tellurite glass with the molar composition 78TeO2-10Nb2O5-5PbO-1PbF2-5Li2O-1La2O3. Analysis of the absorption data has allowed us to calculate the radiative lifetimes of 3P0 excited state of Pr3+ ions and 2F5/2 excited state of Yb3+ ions as being equal to 9.43 and 440 μs, respectively. These values appear to be much higher than those obtained from the lifetime measurements indicating the presence of various energy transfer mechanisms. This conclusion is supported by analysis of the emission spectra obtained for doped glasses under the 445 nm excitation;the visible spectra consist of only Pr3+ transitions, while the near infrared spectrum of Pr3+/Yb3+-codoped glass demonstrates a strong emission from the 2F5/2 excited state of Yb3+ ion around 1000 nm. This emission is a result of the Pr3+-Yb3+ down-conversion energy transfer and its efficiency for our Pr3+/Yb3+-codoped glass is estimated as 29%. For potential applications, it is important to increase this efficiency and further studies are desirable, in particular, an optimal choice of Pr3+ and Yb3+ concentrations to minimize non-radiative energy transfers among the ions through cross-relaxation and energy migration processes. © 2021 IUPAC & De Gruyter.
