Unsupervised visual representation learning has gained significant attention in the computer vision community, driven by recent advancements in contrastive learning. Most existing contrastive learning frameworks rely on instance discrimination as a pretext task, treating each instance as a distinct category. However, this often leads to intra-class collision in a large latent space, compromising the quality of learned representations. To address this issue, we propose a novel contrastive learning method that utilizes randomly generated supervision signals. Our framework incorporates two projection heads: one handles conventional classification tasks, while the other employs a random algorithm to generate fixed-length vectors representing different classes. The second head executes a supervised contrastive learning task based on these vectors, effectively clustering instances of the same class and increasing the separation between different classes. Our method, Contrastive Learning via Randomly Generated Supervision(CLRGS), significantly improves the quality of feature representations across various datasets and achieves state-of-the-art performance in contrastive learning tasks.

Simulation realism is a crucial factor for task performance in virtual reality. The issue is that it does not simply result from a simulation's graphical quality and is often connected to users' expectations and the capacity of the cognitive system. It is assumed that perceived realism may be affected by physiological arousal which is the basis of emotional reactions and of attention prioritizing. The main aim of the presented study is to verify whether perceptual characteristics of a virtual scene – complexity and vividness of virtual objects – affect perceived realism. The secondary aim is to test whether realism assessment changes because of arousal. An experimental study was conducted with 100 participants in total. Four experimental groups differ in terms of the complexity of a virtual scene (i.e., number of objects in the field of view) and vividness of virtual objects (i.e., figure-ground contrast). Participants were asked to perform a task, that was taking on the role of a marshaller and positioning the plane on the airport apron in the virtual reality simulation. During the task, electrodermal activity was measured. After the virtual session, participants assessed perceived realism. Results indicate that the complexity and vividness of virtual scene do not affect perceived realism directly. Physiological arousal (i.e., skin conductance level) is a moderator of the relationship between the vividness of the virtual scene and perceived realism. A high level of arousal increases realism assessment in vivid simulations.

The sequence of Dold coefficients (an(f))n of a self-map f: X → X forms a dual sequence to the sequence of Lefschetz numbers (L(fn))n of iterations of f under the Möbius inversion formula. The set AP(f) = {n: an(f) 6= 0} is called the set of algebraic periods of f. Both the set of algebraic periods and sequence of Dold coefficients play an important role in dynamical system and periodic point theory. In this work we provide a description of surface homeomorphisms with bounded (L(fn))n (quasi-unipotent maps) in terms of Dold coefficients. We also discuss the problem of minimization of the genus of a surface for which one can realize a given set of natural numbers as the set of algebraic periods. Hyperspectral images of cultured cells incubated with mesoporous silica-based nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized with phenylboronic acid derivative and loaded with doxorubicin and resveratrol were analyzed to establish incorporation percentage. We designed and developed a digital tool, which extended the standard procedure, by combining spectral angle mapper with assisted segmentation and counting operations. It provides the percentage of pixels in which the spectral fingerprint of the NPs is found. The analysis is carried out at the cell level and points out the similarities and differences between cell lines and types of NPs.

The differential cross sections for the H2(p,pp)n reaction have been measured for 84 angular configurations of the outgoing protons in the range of polar angles from 13∘ to 33∘ with a proton beam of 108 MeV. Data have been collected in the Cyclotron Center Bronowice at the Institute of Nuclear physics PAS in Kracow using the BINA detector setup. Analysis leading to determination of the breakup cross-section values is described. Absolute normalization is obtained by normalization to the simultaneously measured H2(p,d)p scattering events. Experimental results are compared to the state-of-the-art theoretical calculations. Global analysis shows significant influence of the Coulomb interaction and small effects of three-nucleon force in the studied phase-space region.

The Lindblad master equation is one of the main approaches to open quantum systems. While it has been widely applied in the context of condensed matter systems to study properties of steady states in the limit of long times, the actual route to such steady states has attracted less attention yet. Here, we investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of spin chains with a local coupling to a single Lindblad bath and analyze the transport properties of the induced magnetization. Combining typicality and equilibration arguments with stochastic unraveling, we unveil for the case of weak driving that the dynamics in the open system can be constructed on the basis of correlation functions in the closed system, which establishes a connection between the Lindblad approach and linear response theory at finite times. In this way, we provide a particular example where closed and open approaches to quantum transport agree strictly. We demonstrate this fact numerically for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain at the isotropic point and in the easy-axis regime, where superdiffusive and diffusive scaling is observed, respectively.

Parkinson’s disease ranks as the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder globally. This research aims to develop a system leveraging Mixed Reality capabilities for tracking and assessing eye movements. In this paper, we present a medical scenario and outline the development of an application designed to capture eye-tracking signals through Mixed Reality technology for the evaluation of neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, we introduce a pipeline for extracting clinically relevant features from eye-gaze analysis, describing the capabilities of the proposed system from a medical perspective. The study involved a cohort of healthy control individuals and patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease, showcasing the feasibility and potential of the proposed technology for non-intrusive monitoring of eye movement patterns for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative *** relevance— Developing a non-invasive biomarker for Parkinson’ s disease is urgently needed to accurately detect the disease’s onset. This would allow for the timely introduction of neuroprotective treatment at the earliest stage and enable the continuous monitoring of intervention outcomes. The ability to detect subtle changes in eye movements allows for early diagnosis, offering a critical window for intervention before more pronounced symptoms emerge. Eye tracking provides objective and quantifiable biomarkers, ensuring reliable assessments of disease progression and cognitive function. The eye gaze analysis using Mixed Reality glasses is wireless, facilitating convenient assessments in both home and hospital settings. The approach offers the advantage of utilizing hardware that requires no additional specialized attachments, enabling examinations through personal eyewear

In this paper authors propose idea for inclusion of the Evidence Centered-Design (ECD) driven assessments into graph- based scenarios/levels generating system. The concept is to position ECD's evidences as elements of layered graphs representing game state and possible player's/student's actions. Graph's series of productions can be then compared to task assigned to player/student and evaluated. Carbon dots (CDs) are a class of highly photoluminescent nanomaterials that are less toxic, exhibit good compatibility in biological studies, and they are of sizes typically below 10 nm. In the present work, CDs were implanted on the surface of polycarbonate (PC) using the DC glow discharge non-thermal plasma technique. Plasma processing is a versatile technique to produce nanomaterials that can be used for biomedical and sensor applications. Monitoring the input voltage, processing time, and gas flow-rate are the crucial parameters that play a major role in optimal processing to impregnate CDs on PC. Acetylene plasma processed PC was subjected to an acid isolation process for accumulation of CDs and to test its usage in pH sensing and optical applications. Structural and graphitic layer formation of CDs on PC was studied through Raman spectroscopy, amorphous nature of the samples were observed from the XRD results. The uniform distribution of carbons over the PC was witnessed from the FESEM images and the isolated CDs were identified through and TEM microscopic images. The pH-sensitive photoemission property of acid isolated CDs was analyzed using fluorescence spectrophotometer and the observed results from 3D-contour fluorescent spectra revealed that the KMnO4 treated CDs showed interesting behaviour that can be used in biological pH sensors. The superhydrophobic nature of the prepared samples were observed through the contact angles measurements for water and blood respectively. Contact angle results suggest that the plasma processed CDs can be used in applications involving blood contact devices. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Significance of Benthic Alkalinity Flux Resulting from Anoxic Diagenesis in a Marine Basin with High River Inflow

Alkalinity generation in marine sediments and its release into the water column is significant in terms of seawater's ability to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, especially in shelf seas where due to the shallow depth sediment processes can have a considerable impact on seawater chemistry. Our study considering different types of anoxic shelf sediments shows that benthic alkalinity flux depends on the season, bottom water oxygenation and availability of oxidants for organic matter mineralization, making it highly variable spatially and temporally. Benthic alkalinity fluxes were determined in the southern part of the Baltic Sea - Gdańsk Basin, which is strongly influenced by inflow from the land along with the Vistula, the second largest river flowing into the Baltic Sea. The obtained benthic flux of alkalinity from anaerobic sediments was 1911±744 µmol m-2 day-1, while the alkalinity load entering the Gulf of Gdańsk from sediments was 0.70±0.27 Mmol km-2 yr-1. This means that anaerobic sediments have similar, if not greater, potential to be a significant source of alkalinity in seawater in the southern Baltic Sea than the soil in the catchment. As eutrophication increases and anaerobic bottom areas spread, the sediment zone where methanogenesis occurs can be expected to expand. In this case, we argue that the role of sediment as an internal source of alkalinity will increase. The oxidation of increased amounts of methane will result in a high benthic flux of dissolved inorganic carbon to the bottom water, contributing to the buffer capacity of seawater and counteracting the acidification resulting from the increase in the partial pressure of CO2 in the atmosphere and water. © 2024, The Authors.
