Simulating large-scale coupled-oscillator systems presents substantial computational challenges for classical algorithms, particularly when pursuing first-principles analyses in the thermodynamic limit. Motivated by the quantum algorithm framework proposed by Babbush et al. [1], we present and implement a detailed quantum circuit construction for simulating one-dimensional spring-mass systems. Our approach incorporates key quantum subroutines, including block encoding, quantum singular value transformation (QSVT), and amplitude amplification, to realize the unitary time-evolution operator associated with simulating classical oscillators dynamics. In the uniform spring-mass setting, our circuit construction requires a gate complexity of (formula presented), where N is the number of oscillators and Ε is the target accuracy of the approximation. For more general, heterogeneous spring-mass systems, the total gate complexity is O(N log2 N log2(1/Ε)). Both settings require O(log2 N) qubits. Numerical simulations agree with classical solvers across all tested configurations, indicating that this circuit-based Hamiltonian simulation approach can substantially reduce computational costs and potentially enable larger-scale many-body studies on future quantum hardware. © 2025, CC0.

This paper investigates public key cryptosystems (PKC) in the rank metric and term-rank metric. For security analysis of cryptosystems, we introduce a GPT system. Recently, respective structural attacks this system were proposed by Over-beck. For GPT system, Overbeck's attack succeeds in polynomial time. We will discuss the new construction of Shiki system. This paper describes Overbeck's attack to the new Shiki system. Also, investigation of the possibility of using term-rank codes in public key cryptosystems. © 2021 IEEE.

Relationships between Microbiological and Physicochemical Properties of Substrata, Fungal Root Colonisation and Plant Performance of Commercially Available Ornamental Plant Species Grown in Pots

The relationships of ornamental plants with soil microorganisms, which can either stimulate or suppress their performance and thereby impact the production process, remain largely unexplored. Therefore, we conducted a study on 10 common ornamental plant species available in large DIY stores to compare the microbiological and physicochemical properties of substrata used for their cultivation and assess their colonisation by root-inhabiting fungi, namely arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), dark septate endophytes (DSE), and Olpidium. The substrata exhibited significant variations in their microbiological and physicochemical properties, depending on both their origin from DIY stores and the ornamental plant species. Hyphae and spores of AMF were not found in any analysed roots and substrata, respectively, except for the low level of colonisation observed in Echinacea purpurea roots. However, 8 plant species were colonised by DSE and 8 by Olpidium spp. More acidic substrata with a high content of organic matter and the ability to hold water favoured the colonisation of Olpidium spp. in roots, and the opposite trend was found for DSE. The occurrence of both groups of endophytes, especially Olpidium, was limited in plants with higher biomass and vitality. In conclusion, commercially available ornamental plant species rarely form symbiotic associations with AMF in pot cultivation. Instead, they are often colonised by other root-inhabiting fungi, such as DSE, which are known to have either positive or negative effects on their hosts, and Olpidium spp., which can transfer plant viruses. We suspect that these results are due to high nutrient, organic matter, and water contents in substrata. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Polarizing optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry are used to determine the phase sequence of three liquid crystalline 4-pentylphenyl-4’-n-alkyloxythiobenzoates with n = 9, 10, 11. The X-ray diffraction method is applied for structural characterization of the liquid crystalline phases. The smectic layer spacing, tilt angle, average distance between the long axes of molecules and correlation length of the short-range order are determined as a function of temperature. For the crystal-like smectic phases with the hexagonal or herring-bone packing, the unit cell parameters are obtained. The presence of the tilted hexagonal phase for n = 10, 11 and tilted herring-bone phase for n = 9, 10 is indicated, although the direction of the tilt cannot be determined. © 2024, CC BY.

As the limits of computational power continue to increase, concern has arisen regarding insufficient security along with a demand for improvements in encryption methods for data transmission, which might be achieved by chaos synchronization [1], [2]. Using modified Lugiato-Levefer equations (LLEs), we numerically explore two cascaded microresonator frequency combs [3]. To obtain a chaotic state, both cavities are pumped by continuous-wave lasers until modulation instability (MI) combs are generated. By injecting the output of the first resonator into the second resonator, both chaotic fields in the cavities are synchronized. In this work, we investigate to what extent the chaos is synchronized and how this phenomenon may be implemented in existing data transmission systems over a chaotic channel to enable secure communication.

Controllable magnetic anisotropy and spin orientation of a prototypical easy-plane antiferromagnet on a ferromagnetic support

We report the magnetic properties of easy-plane antiferromagnetic NiO(111) thin films epitaxially grown on ferromagnetic Fe(110) layers. We find that the magnetic moments in NiO are rotatable within the NiO(111) sample plane and both magnetic anisotropy and orientation of antiferromagnetic NiO spins are determined by the magnetic properties of underlying ferromagnetic Fe layer. Specifically, the magnetic state and anisotropy of antiferromagnetic NiO can be modified by tuning the thickness of Fe, changing the temperature, or applying small external magnetic field.

Rényi entanglement entropy of spin chain with Generative Neural Networks

We describe a method to estimate Rényi entanglement entropy of a spin system, which is based on the replica trick and generative neural networks with explicit probability estimation. It can be extended to any spin system or lattice field theory. We demonstrate our method on a one-dimensional quantum Ising spin chain. As the generative model, we use a hierarchy of autoregressive networks, allowing us to simulate up to 32 spins. We calculate the second Rényi entropy and its derivative and cross-check our results with the numerical evaluation of entropy and results available in the literature. © 2024, CC BY.

Evaluation of the specific activity of radioactivity in tubers is an important tool in the assessment of human internal exposure to radiation through ingestion. In this research, the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides 40 K, 238 U and 232 Th in sweet potato samples taken from different farm lands in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria were determined by means of gamma spectrometry. Using standard calibrated NaI (TI) and shielded detector coupled to a computer resident quantum MCA2100R Multichannel analyzer for 36,000 s. The activities were estimated to be 526.39 ± 51.40, 8.55 ± 1.76 and 1.14 ± 0.42Bq/kg respectively for 40 K, 238 U and 232 Th. The estimated daily intake through potato diet are 6.6622, 4.6860, 4.6748, 2.75103, 2.7453, and 2.3983 Bq.d-1 for South-East (Abia), South-South(Edo), South-West(Oyo), North-Central (Kwara), North-West (Sokoto), and North-East (Adamawa) respectively. Findings showed that potato plants uptake and transport radionuclides from the soil by the root system. It also showed that 40 K is the most radionuclides contaminant presents in the farm soil where the potato plants were grown. The daily intake of radionuclides was also observed to be highest in 40 K. This may be due to the use of phosphate rich fertilizer in the farmlands where they were grown. The overview of the research showed that the annual effective doses due to potato diet, at this present rate, pose no significant threat to the public. © 2023 IEEE.

The study investigates the accuracy of CST simulations in TEM mode and unit cell simulations for determining the refractive index (n) of materials. The results in TEM mode align with the expected properties of air, affirming the correctness of settings. However, when using unit cell simulations, the materials properties template inaccurately calculates n values, deviating from reality. Further examination reveals that unit cell simulations emit waves of different modes (TE, TM, or CP) instead of TEM, leading to inconsistencies. A revised equation is introduced to address this discrepancy, yielding results closer to actual n values. The importance of parameters like D and m is emphasized, as variations significantly impact the n values obtained. The introduced equation provides more accurate n cal-culations in unit cell simulations than the default CST template.
