A CMOS folding and interpolating analog-to-digital converter fully compatible with standard digital CMOS technology is described. Offset averaging reduces the input capacitance. Dynamic distributed sample-and-hold improves the dynamic performance of the A/D converter. Current-mode, fully differential and open-loop analog circuitry is used to achieve high speed. An 8-bit 125 MHz A/D converter with 100 MHz input bandwidth is realized in standard 0.35 um 3.3 V CMOS technology.

A novel VLSI design and implementation of a low power 8-bit microcontroller using asynchronous logic is proposed in this paper. Taking advantage of the low power potential of asynchronous logic, the 2-stage pipelined MCU is carefully designed by chosen proper architecture as well as suitable asynchronous signal protocols which including a combination of a specific "Completion Detection Method" and "matching delay Method". Other low power design techniques such as "Gating Clock" also applied to the design. Using synchronous design flow and standard-cell library facilitates the VLSI design and circuit implementation. Fabricated in Chartered 0.6 um CMOS technology, this low power asynchronous MCU achieves only 16% power dissipation of the conventional designed PIC16C61, which shares the same instruction set and function as the MCU we designed.

In this paper, a pipeline Reed-Solomon decoder based on time domain decoding technique is presented. High throughput is achieved by parallel computation in the modified Euclid algorithm block, and the complex control circuit is simplified by a switch box strategy. In addition, the constant finite field multiplier is optimized to reduce the chip area, thus making the decoder suitable for HDTV.

Metal-ferroelectric-semiconductor (MFS) device is a very hopeful new generation memory device due to its unique properties such as non-volatility, non-destructive read out, high speed, good endurance, radiation tolerance and high density. However, the ferroelectric thin film usually cracks when it crystallizes on the buffer layer such as ZrO/sub 2/ thin film, which will make the device fail. We report, in this paper, the MFMIS structure of Au/Cr/PZT/Pt/Ti/ZrO/sub 2//Si was successfully fabricated to inhibit the PZT ferroelectric thin film from cracking. The C-V characteristic of the MFMIS capacitor was investigated.

This paper describes a mixed signal, low power circuit design for temperature and humidity measurement and control. Temperature and humidity are sensed using a thermistor sensor and a hygrometer sensor. The theory of an RC oscillator is used to convert sensor resistance into a frequency signal. A ROM (Read Only Memory) is used to map the Schmitt trigger frequency onto temperature and humidity. The control block can control the outer device to implement some demand according to the value of measurement. This circuit can measure temperature to an accuracy of 1 V in the range of -20/spl deg/C to 60/spl deg/C and measure humidity to an accuracy of 10%RH in the range of 40%RH to 90%RH.
