This paper introduces a new high gain DC-DC boost converter that integrates an interleaved cell and voltage multiplier cells. The proposed converter provides a solution for interfacing low voltage photovoltaic and fuel cell systems, allowing a high voltage gain at the output and a high level current at the input. The capacitors voltage rates are naturally balanced and a control strategy is proposed for magnetics current balancing. The converter can also operate as a split power supply under unbalanced load conditions. This paper provides detailed description and design considerations supported by simulation results.

The solid state transformer (SST) standard concept utilizes a three-stage solution. The DC-DC stage provides the medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) sides with isolation requirements in medium frequency (MF). These DC ports allows a hybrid distribution system and can integrate renewable energy sources into the grid. A single-stage solution is possible with the Matrix converter, however, DC ports are not available. This paper proposes a new single-phase single-stage bidirectional ACAC converter topology with MV and LV DC ports available, employing reduced switch count compared with the single-phase three-stage solution. The converter utilizes the interleaved and dual-active bridge (DAB) concept. The MV side employs the neutral-point clamped (NPC) converter and for the LV side are presented two alternatives, half-bridge (HB) and full-bridge (FB) configuration. The FB configuration is analysed. At AC ports there are five-level voltages, and the current frequency of the low-pass filter inductors is twice the switching frequency. A carrier-based pulse-width-modulation (CB-PWM) is proposed as well as control strategy. The converter power flow is analysed. Simulation results in closed loop operation demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed converter. The simulations are performed in multiple scenarios with the prototype parameters.

This paper proposes possibilities of interconnected hybrid three-leg converters, that are comprise of combinations of two-level and/or three-level legs. In this way, four topologies are presented and compared in aspects such as harmonic distortion of grid currents, semiconductor losses and rating of power switches. The hybrid solution allows improvements in quality of the output converter voltages, reducing the harmonic distortion of grid current. This advantage can be turned into switching frequency reduction and consequently semiconductor losses reduction. Circuit model equations, simulation and experimental results (acting as shunt compensator and inverter) are presented as well.

This paper proposes a shunt active power filter (SAPF) composed of four H-bridge converters. Each of them is connected by means of isolation transformers. Compared to conventional topologies, the proposed converter permits reducing: dc-link voltage rating, grid current harmonic distortion and/or switching frequency (switching losses). A suitable control strategy to adjust the filter currents as well as dc-link voltage are presented. Two PWM strategies are designed to command the converter according to the reference voltage provided by the controllers. Simulation and experimental results are presented in order to validate theoretical approaches.
