One of challenges in GIS Web service is mass GIS data storage and processing. There are at least three obstacles that oppose dealing with this challenge: the mismatch between the frequent requirement of concurrent tasks for accessing data in GIS Web service and the poor performance of conventional storage mechanism such as relational databases;the insufficiency of relational databases to manage complex data types in GIS Web service;the horizontal scalability of storage for non-stop GIS Web service evolution. This paper proposes a distributed cached storage solution, as the mixture of MongoDB storage and Memcached cache, for GIS Web service. Both techniques are closely related to NoSQL that is a class of database management system identified by its non-adherence to the widely used relational database management system (RDBMS) model. A concise case that facilitates a better understanding of this work indicates its feasibility.

Exploiting constructive interference in wireless networks is an emerging trend for it allows multiple senders transmit an identical packet simultaneously. Constructive interference based flooding can realize millisecond network flooding latency and sub-microsecond time synchronization accuracy, require no network state information and adapt to topology changes. However, constructive interference has a precondition to function, namely, the maximum temporal displacement Δ of concurrent packet transmissions should be less than a given hardware constrained threshold. We disclose that constructive interference based flooding suffers the scalability problem. The packet reception performances of intermediate nodes degrade significantly as the density or the size of the network increases. We theoretically show that constructive interference based flooding has a packet reception ratio (PRR) lower bound (95:4%) in the grid topology. For a general topology, we propose the spine constructive interference based flooding (SCIF) protocol. With little overhead, SCIF floods the entire network much more reliably than Glossy [1] in high density or large-scale networks. Extensive simulations illustrate that the PRR of SCIF keeps stable above 96% as the network size grows from 400 to 4000 while the PRR of Glossy is only 26% when the size of the network is 4000. We also propose to use waveform analysis to explain the root cause of constructive interference, which is mainly examined in simulations and experiments. We further derive the closed-form PRR formula and define interference gain factor (IGF) to quantitatively measure constructive interference.

The blooming of location-sharing services has led to serious privacy concerns, particularly location privacy concerns. In this paper, we first discuss the definition of location privacy and then review several location privacy protection mechanisms. After that, we classify location privacy protection mechanisms into four categories: legislation & regulatory, anonymity & obfuscation, protocol and policy-based protection. We explain each privacy protection mechanism category in detail and discuss if it can be used in particular kind of location-sharing services along with their advantages and disadvantages.

This paper presents an exact method and a heuristic method for static rate-optimal multiprocessor scheduling of real-time multi rate DSP algorithms represented by synchronous data flow graphs (SDFGs). Through exploring the state-space generated by a self-timed execution (STE) of an SDFG, a static rate-optimal schedule via explicit retiming and implicit unfolding can be found by our exact method. By constraining the number of concurrent firings of actors of an STE, the number of processors used in a schedule can be limited. Using this, we present a heuristic method for processor-constrained rate-optimal scheduling of SDFGs. Both methods do not explicitly convert an SDFG to its equivalent homogenous SDFG. Our experimental results show that the exact method gives a significant improvement compared to the existing methods, our heuristic method further reduces the number of processors used.

This paper presents a new feature descriptor for real-time people detection in depth images. The shape cue in depth images can reduce negative impacts of variations of clothing, lighting conditions and the complexity of backgrounds. The proposed Simplified Local Ternary Patterns (SLTP) can take advantage of depth images to describe human body shape with low computational cost. To evaluate the SLTP feature, we establish a dataset with 7260 positive samples. A series of experiments are carried out on this dataset, and the results show that the SLTP feature can achieve a high detection rate with a low false positive rate. Besides, SLTP is easy to implement, and performs fast (over 80 frames per second) on a standard desktop computer.

This paper presents a general-purpose software framework dedicated to the evolutionary transportation scheduling, which is one of the most challenging areas in transportation engineering. Against evolution, the most popular approach is manual process. Manual process in here is to describe the system business using the most appropriate modeling language(s) at the most appropriate level(s) of abstraction. To demonstrate the applicability of the framework, we report our experience in using the software to generate pavement maintenance report under manual business model.

Dynamic latency over the Intemet is an Important parameter for evaluating the performance of Web service orchestration. In this paper, we propose a performance analyzing and correctness checking method for service orchestration with dynamic latency simulated in Colored PetriNets （CPNs）. First, we extend the CPN to Web Service Composition Orchestration Network System （WS-CONS） for the description of dynamic latency in service orchestration. Secondly, with simulated dynamic latency, a buffer-limited policy and admittance-control policy are designed in WS- CONS and implemented on CPN Tools. In the buffer-limited policy, the passing messages would be discarded if the node capacity is not adequate. In the admittance-control policy, the ability of a message entering the system depends on the number of messages concurrently flowing in the system. This helps to enhance the success rate of message passing. Finally, the system performance is evaluated through running models in CPN Tools. Simulated results show that the dynamic latency plays an important role in the system throughput and response latency. This simulation helps system designers to quickly make proper compromises at low cost.

Increasing the duration of active life is one of the most important problems in modern gerontology in the world, including Kazakhstan. First, the solution of these problems is associated with using information and communication technologies (ICT). Gerontological RK portal, which has no analogues in countries of the former USSR, will include information on major aspects of the aging in RK. Portal will be a platform for exchange of experiences, publishing of research results, for getting generalized and personalized information. This paper describes the main elements of the portal and presents preliminary results of frequency occurrence analysis of cardiovascular diseases in elderly age and income level of the respondent on the basis of epidemiological screening, performed on the basis of data collected on our site.

Background: Change propagation analysis helps predict the parts of the software that may be affected if a change is made. Existing research on change propagation focuses on design and code level changes. However, as a software evolves, the requirements that drive these changes also have intricate dependencies. Understanding the effect of these requirement dependencies on change prorogation is useful but not trivial. More than twenty requirements dependency types have been identified in the literature, however there still lacks an evaluation of the applicability of these dependency types in requirements and change propagation analysis. Aim: We aim to investigate whether these dependency types are useful for change propagation analysis. Method: We conducted a case study in a real-world industry project. This case study evaluates two representative dependency models covering twenty five types of dependencies. Results: Our initial evaluation has found that five dependency types are particularly useful in change propagation analysis and practitioners with different backgrounds have various viewpoints on change propagation. Thus change impact analysis should involve a wide range of stakeholders including project managers, requirements engineers, designers and developers. Conclusions: Our case study provides insights into requirements dependencies and their effects on change propagation analysis for both research and practice.

MCGIM-Based Model Streaming for Realtime Progressive Rendering

While most mesh streaming techniques focus on optimizing the transmission order of the polygon data, few approaches have addressed the streaming problems by using geometry images （GIM）. In this paper, we present a new approach which firstly partitions a mesh into several surface patches, then converts these patches into multi-chart geometry images （MCGIM）. After resampling the MCGIM and normal map atlas are obtained, we hierarchically construct the regular geometry image representation by adopting the quadtree structure. In this way, the encoded nodes can be transmitted in arbitrary order with high transmission flexibility. Also, the rendering quality of the partially transmitted models can be greatly improved by using the normal texture atlas. Meanwhile only the geometry on the silhouette to the current viewpoint are required to be refined and transmitted, therefore the amount of data is minimized for transferring each frame. In particular, our approach also allows users to encode and transmit the mesh data via JPEG2000 technique. Therefore, our mesh streaming method is suitable for transmitting 3D animation models with use of Motion JPEG2000 videos. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach, which enables one server to stream the MCGIM texture atlas to the clients. Also, the transmitted model can be rendered in a multiresolution manner by GPU acceleration on the client side, due to the regular geometry structure of MCGIM.
