Semantic based queries are greatly paid attention to because its aim is to help users to find what they really want. In this paper, we proposed an efficient hybrid model for distributed semantic queries based on open distributed environments. Meanwhile, a feasible ranking strategy based on semantic overlap is introduced to rank answering results of semantic queries from multiple sources. Multi-agent technologies can be successfully applied to develop our case system across multiple and distributed ontologies. The experimental evaluations show that our approximate model is efficient to perform semantic query tasks in heterogenous environments.

Description logic based semantic query needs complete information from sources of knowledge where available information is often incomplete. To solve such incomplete reasoning problem, this paper embedded default logic into the description logic knowledge base, meanwhile prioritized the default rules, which preferred more specific default rules over more general ones. Then, an original incomplete query could be transformed into a complete query relative to the extended knowledge base, by checking default satisfiability of complex concept in accord with the query. Furthermore, the default satisfiability can be detected through a new extended tableau algorithm.

Although some efforts have been made to endow description logics with default reasoning capabilities, we hardly heard about the considerable attention to the preference of default rules in extended description logic. This paper makes a new prioritized default extension to the description logic knowledge base for default reasoning. Introducing and prioritizing default rules, it provides the mathematic foundation for querying information from original incomplete description logic knowledge base. Thus, a complete information query based on the integrated systems with default information can boil down to checking default satisfiability of the complex concept.

Although Web services are generally envisioned as being stateless, some of them are implicitly stateful. The reason is that the Web services often work as front-ends to enterprise systems and are used in a session-oriented way by the clients. Contrary to the case of stateless services, for a stateful Web service there exist constraints to the order in which the operations of the service may be invoked. However, specification of such constraints is not a standard part of a Web service interface, and compliance with such constraints is not checked by the standard Web service development tools. Therefore, we propose in this paper to extend a web service interface by a constraint definition that is based on behavior protocols. Also, we implemented a tool that checks whether a given BPEL code complies with the constraints of all stateful web services it communicates with. The key idea behind the tool is to translate the BPEL code into Java and then to check the Java program using Java PathFinder with behavior protocol extension.

The Analog circuits are very important in many high-speed applications such as communications. Since the size of analog circuit is becoming larger and more complex, the design is becoming more and more difficult. This paper proposes a new circuit representation method based on a two-layer evolutionary scheme with genetic programming (TLGP), which uses a divide-and-conquer approach to evolve the analog circuits. This representation has the desirable property which is more helpful to generate expectant circuit graphs. And it is capable of generating various kinds of circuits by evolving the circuits with dynamical size, circuit topology, and component values. The experimental results on the designs of the voltage amplifier and the low-pass filter show that this method is efficient.

The non-existence of triangular arbitrage in an efficient foreign exchange markets is widely believed. In this paper, we deploy a forecasting model to predict foreign exchange rates and apply the triangular arbitrage model to evaluate the possibility of an arbitrage opportunity. Surprisingly, we substantiate the existence of triangular arbitrage opportunities in the exchange rate forecasting market even with transaction costs. This also implies the inefficiency of the market and potential market threats of profit-seeking investors. In our experiments, neural network based model with back-propagation (BP-NN) is used for exchange rate forecasting.

This paper is concerned with prototype development and motion control of a dolphin-like underwater robot. The propulsion and maneuvering of the robotic dolphin are realized with the flapping motion of the mechanical flippers and the combined heaving and pitching motions of the fluke. Mechanical design and control of the flipper apparatus and the flexible tail mechanism are presented. Through coordinated control of the propulsors, several swimming movements are designed. Preliminary experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed design scheme.

In this paper we present a general FEM (finite element method) solution that enables fast dynamic deformation simulation on the newly available GPU (graphics processing unit) hardware with compute unified device architecture (CUDA) from NVIDIA. CUDA-enabled GPUs harness the power of 128 processors which allow data parallel computations. Compared to the previous GPGPU, it is significantly more flexible with a C language interface. We not only implement FEM deformation computation algorithms with CUDA but also analyze the performance in detail. Our test results indicate that the GPU with CUDA enables about 4 times speedup for FEM deformation computation on an Intel(R) Core 2 Quad 2.0 GHz machine with GeForce 8800 GTX.

The broadcast operation is a fundamental service in wireless ad hoc networks. The naive flooding mechanism may trigger a great number of data retransmissions at the same time and congest the networks, resulting in the broadcast storm problem. Self pruning is a simple heuristic, which reduces redundant data transmission of flooding, making use of the neighbor knowledge. However, exiting evaluation on self pruning is mainly based on experiments and greatly lacks detailed theoretical analysis. To this end, we propose in this paper an analytical model, which estimates the expected cost and the scalability of self pruning. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed analytical model, we compare the analytical results with results obtained from the experiments. The experimental evaluation shows that the proposed analytical model accurately estimates the expected cost and scalability of self pruning, especially when the density of nodes is high.

We demonstrate that the logic computation performed by the DNA-based algorithm for solving general cases of the satisfiability problem can be implemented by our proposed quantum algorithm on the quantum machine proposed by Deutsch. Moreover, we also prove that the logic computation by the bio-molecular operations proposed by Adleman can be implemented by quantum gates (for example, the Hadamard gate, NOT, CNOT, and CCNOT) on the quantum machine. Furthermore, those NP-complete problems solved on a bio-molecular computer are also solvable on a quantum computer. To test our theory, we carry out a three-qubit NMR experiment for solving the simplest satisfiability problem.
