Wireless communications, encompassing mobile communications, satellite communications, wireless local area networks (LANs), and fixed wireless systems, play a major role in communication networks. In preparation for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23) that was held in November 2023, the International Telecommunication Union - Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), a de jure standards organization, conducted studies and discussions broader than those limited to Beyond 5th-generation mobile communication system (5G) and 6G. The 3rd Generation Partnership project (3GPP), a private standardization organization, has also started to study specifications after Release 18 under the name "5G-Advanced," as a further evolved version of 5G. The IEEE 802.11 Working Group (WG), a WG of the Standards Association under the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is studying next-generation wireless LANs. This article introduces these standardization efforts as well as the NTT Group’s activities for standardization of satellite communications, fixed wireless communications, and radio-wave propagation. © 2024 Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.. NTT access network service systems Laboratories was established in Tsukuba City on July 20, 1972 as Tsukuba Telecommunication Construction Engineering Development Center. Since then, it has been renamed several times during the era of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation and the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). In July 2022, the Laboratories' Tsukuba Research and Development (R&D) Center celebrated its 50th anniversary. This article introduces the 50-year history of the Tsukuba R&D Center, focusing on the large-scale experimental facilities that supported R&D activities in Tsukuba. © 2022 Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.. Since radio waves used in radio communications travel across national borders, international rules are required. Therefore, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations’ organization specialized in telecommunications, set forth the Radio Regulations (RR), which provides international rules for radio waves in each frequency and in each region of the world. The RR is reviewed and revised about every four years, and the international conference held for this purpose is the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC). Since the revised RR will be reflected in the regulations of Japan, the WRC is an extremely important meeting for the NTT Group, which provides mobile phones and other wireless services. This article reports on the ITU WRC 2023 (WRC-23) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 20 to December 15, 2023. © 2024 Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.. All rights reserved.

To make operations of an organization digital, i.e., digital transformation (DX), companies and local governments are promoting on-site efforts to improve business efficiency using digital technology and the implementation of measures by DX-promotion departments. To further enhance the effectiveness of DX promotion, it is necessary to create a DX cycle in which workers in the field and DX-promotion departments cooperate to efficiently and accurately implement effective DX measures over a wide area.
