We address turbulent scalar mixing with a prescribed mean scalar gradient in the implicit large-eddy simulation (ILES) context. The focus is on the performance of ILES to capture the mixing dynamics due to large-scale entrainment and intermediate scale convective stirring in forced compressible isotropic turbulence. ILES is based on a multi-dimensional flux corrected transport algorithm with separate low wave number forcing of solenoidal and dilatational velocity components. ILES is shown to capture dominant aspects of the mixing transition as function of effective Reynolds number determined by grid resolution.

This paper is concerned with a subclass of deterministic pushdown transducers, called deterministic restricted one-counter transducers (droct's), and studies the equivalence problem for real-time droct's which accept by final state. After providing some properties of these droct's, we present a polynomial-time algorithm for checking the equivalence for these droct's.
We discuss in this paper a problem of mining structural change patterns. Given a pair of graphs before and after some change, a structural change pattern is extracted as a vertex set X which is pseudo-independent set ...

Many kinds of graph data including social networks are increasing nowadays. In such a graph, the relationships between vertices are changing day by day. We need to have a data mining method able to extract significant patterns informing us about what changes. From this viewpoint, we propose in this paper an algorithm for change detection over two graphs constructed from two time intervals, based on a notion of modularity and a branch-and-bound search method for changes.

In this paper, we extend the observer/control strategies previously published in [25] to an n -link, serially connected, direct drive, rigid link, revolute robot operating in the presence of nonlinear friction effects modeled by the Lu-Gre model. In addition, we also present a new adaptive control technique for compensating for the nonlinear parameterizable Stribeck effects. Specifically, an adaptive observer/controller scheme is developed which contains a feedforward approximation of the Stribeck effects. This feedforward approximation is used in a composite controller/observer strategy which forces the average square integral of the position tracking error to an arbitrarily small value. Experimental results are included to illustrate the performance of the proposed controllers.

Although currently seatbelts and airbags are world widely used, there are still more than 40,000 people killed annually in traffic accidents. Referred to David Breed's "Road to Zero Fatalities" (RtZF/spl reg/) concept, this paper mainly discusses how to develop and deploy a safety warning system using high precision digital road maps and a combination of various vehicle status sensory techniques, without or with a minimum requirement of additional road infrastructures. This system will help to avoid accidents and enhance safety by warning drivers of possible hazardous situations in advance.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed conference proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on algorithms and Computation, WALCOM 2015, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in February 2015. The 26 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 85 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on approximation algorithms, data structures and algorithms, computational geometry, combinatorial algorithms, distributed and online algorithms, graph drawing and algorithms, combinatorial problems and complexity, and graph enumeration and algorithms.
