We are interested in the accuracy of linear algebra operations; accuracy of the solution of linear equation, eigenvalue and eigenvectors of some matrices, etc. This is a reason for we have been developing the MPACK. The MPACK consists of MBLAS and MLAPACK, multiple precision version of BLAS and LAPACK, respectively. Features of MPACK are: (i) based on LAPACK 3.x, (ii) to provide a reference implementation and or API (iii) written in C++, rewrite from FORTRAN77 (iv) supports GMP, MPFR, DD/QD and binary128 as multiple precision arithmetic library and (v) portable. Current version of MPACK is 0.7.0 and it supports 76 MBLAS routines and 100 MLAPACK routines. Matrix-matrix multiplication routine has been accelerated using NVIDIA C2050 GPU.

Humour classification is one of the most interesting and difficult tasks in text classification. Humour is subjective by nature, yet humans are able to promptly define their preferences. Nowadays people often search for humour as a relaxing proxy to overcome stressful and demanding situations, having little or no time to search contents for such activities. Hence, we propose to aid the definition of personal models that allow the user to access humour with more confidence on the precision of his preferences. In this paper we focus on a Support Vector Machine (SVM) active learning strategy that uses specific most informative examples to improve baseline performance. Experiments were carried out using the widely available Jester jokes dataset, with encouraging results on the proposed framework.

Boson sampling, thought to be intractable classically, can be solved by a quantum machine composed of merely generation, linear evolution and detection of single photons. Such an analog quantum computer for this specific problem provides a shortcut to boost the absolute computing power of quantum computers to beat classical ones. However, the capacity bound of classical computers for simulating boson sampling has not yet been identified. Here we simulate boson sampling on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer, which occupied the first place in the world ranking six times from 2013 to 2016. We computed the permanent of the largest matrix using up to 312 000 CPU cores of Tianhe-2, and inferred from the current most efficient permanent-computing algorithms that an upper bound on the performance of Tianhe-2 is one 50-photon sample per ~100 min. In addition, we found a precision issue with one of two permanent-computing algorithms.

Spatial reuse protocol (SRP) is a media access control (MAC)-layer protocol that operates over a double counter-rotating ring network topology. SRP is designed to enhance the SONET network so that it can handle data traffic more efficiently. We study the all-terminal reliability of an SRP ring implementing intelligent protection switch (IPS) and enhanced intelligent protection switch (E-IPS). We calculate reliability for all scenarios under which all-terminal connectivity is maintained. By summing up the results arising from individual mutually exclusive events, all-terminal reliabilities for IPS and E-IPS are obtained. By further assuming constant and time-dependent component failure rates, mean time to failure (MTTF) and mean time to failure improvement factor (MTIF) measures are calculated. Results show that MTTF/MTIF vary as functions of network size, component reliability and coverage factor. The advantage of E-IPS over IPS is more obvious when network size is big and concentrator failure rate is small. Our analysis could be helpful to network designers who wish to determine whether the additional cost/complexity added by the E-IPS scheme is justified.

Anisotropic diffusion is a powerful method for image feature extraction in which blurring is allowed to occur except at edges. Mean field annealing (MFA) is an image optimization technique which is used to find the best estimation of a blurred, noisy corrupted image. We show that MFA is versatile enough to be used for image feature extraction as well. Furthermore, the two major problems in anisotropic diffusion (white noise and geometric interpretation) can be solved by few modifications of the MFA equation. Finally, experiments and results are presented.
