Sharing the hardware platform between diverse information systems to establish full cooperation among different functionalities has attracted substantial ***,broadband multifunctional integrated systems with large operating frequency ranges are challenging due to the bandwidth and computing speed restrictions of electronic ***,we report an analog parallel processor(APP)based on the silicon photonic platform that directly discretizes and parallelizes the broadband signal in the analog *** APP first discretizes the signal with the optical frequency comb and then adopts optical dynamic phase interference to reassign the analog signal into 2N parallel *** photonic analog parallelism,data rate and data volume in each sequence are simultaneously compressed,which mitigates the requirement on each parallel computing ***,the fusion of the outputs from each computing core is equivalent to directly processing broadband *** the proof-of-concept experiment,two-channel analog parallel processing of broadband radar signals and high-speed communication signals is implemented on the single photonic integrated *** bandwidth of broadband radar signal is 6 GHz and the range resolution of 2.69 cm is *** wireless communication rate of 8 Gbit/s is also *** the bandwidth and speed limitations of the single-computing core along with further exploring the multichannel potential of this architecture,we anticipate that the proposed APP will accelerate the development of powerful optoelectronic processors as critical support for applications such as satellite networks and intelligent driving.

Revolutionary self-powered transducing mechanism for long-lasting and stable glucose monitoring:achieving selective and sensitive bacterial endospore germination in microengineered paper-based platforms

We introduce a groundbreaking proof-of-concept for a novel glucose monitoring transducing mechanism,marking the first demonstration of a spore-forming microbial whole-cell sensing *** approach uses selective and sensitive germination of Bacillus subtilis spores in response to glucose in potassium-rich bodily fluids such as *** the rate of germination and the number of metabolically active germinating cells are directly proportional to glucose concentration,the electrogenic activity of these cells—manifested as electricity—serves as a self-powered transducing signal for glucose *** a microengineered,paper-based microbial fuel cell(MFC),these electrical power outputs are measurable and can be visually displayed through a compact interface,providing real-time *** dormant spores extend shelf-life,and the self-replicating bacteria ensure *** MFC demonstrated a remarkable sensitivity of 2.246µW·(log mM)^(-1)·cm^(-2) to glucose concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 10 mM,with a notably lower limit of detection at~0.07 *** sensor exhibited exceptional selectivity,accurately detecting glucose even in the presence of various *** analyses revealed that,unlike conventional enzymatic biosensors whose performance degrades significantly through time even when inactive,the spore-based MFC is stable for extended periods and promptly regains functionality when *** preliminary investigation indicates that the spore-forming microbial whole-cell sensing strategy holds considerable promise for efficient diabetes management and can be extended toward noninvasive wearable monitoring,overcoming critical challenges of current technologies and paving the way for advanced biosensing applications.

Dephasing in Fluxonium Qubits from Coherent Quantum Phase Slips

Phase slips occur across all Josephson junctions (JJs) at a rate that increases with the impedance of the junction. In superconducting qubits composed of JJ-array superinductors—such as fluxonium—phase slips in the array can lead to decoherence. In particular, phase-slip processes at the individual array junctions can coherently interfere, each with an Aharonov-Casher phase that depends on the offset charges of the array islands. These coherent quantum phase slips (CQPS) perturbatively modify the qubit frequency, and therefore charge noise on the array islands will lead to dephasing. By varying the impedance of the array junctions, we design a set of fluxonium qubits in which the expected phase-slip rate within the JJ array changes by several orders of magnitude. We characterize the coherence times of these qubits and demonstrate that the scaling of CQPS-induced dephasing rates agrees with our theoretical model. Furthermore, we perform noise spectroscopy of two qubits in regimes dominated by either CQPS or flux noise. We find that the noise power spectrum associated with CQPS dephasing appears to be featureless at low frequencies and not 1/f. Numerical simulations indicate that this behavior is consistent with charge noise generated by charge-parity fluctuations within the array. Our findings broadly inform JJ-array-design trade-offs, relevant for the numerous superconducting-qubit designs employing JJ-array superinductors.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. We developed high-performance flexible oxide thin-film transistors(TFTs)using SnO_(2) semiconductor and high-k ZrO_(2) dielectric,both formed through combustion-assisted sol-gel *** method involves the exothermic reaction of fuels and oxidizers to produce high-quality oxide films without extensive external *** combustion ZrO_(2) films were revealed to have an amorphous structure with a higher proportion of oxygen corresponding to the oxide network,which contributes to the low leakage current and frequency-independent dielectric *** ZrO_(2)/SnO_(2) TFTs fabricated on flexible substrates using combustion synthesis exhibited excellent electrical characteristics,including a field-effectmobility of 26.16 cm^(2)/Vs,a subthreshold swing of 0.125 V/dec,and an on/off current ratio of 1.13×10^(6) at a low operating voltage of 3 ***,we demonstrated flexible ZrO_(2)/SnO_(2) TFTs with robust mechanical stability,capable of withstanding 5000 cycles of bending tests at a bending radius of 2.5 mm,achieved by scaling down the device dimensions.

Collaborative machine learning involves training models on data from multiple parties but must incentivize their participation. Existing data valuation methods fairly value and reward each party based on shared data or model parameters but neglect the privacy risks involved. To address this, we introduce differential privacy (DP) as an incentive. Each party can select its required DP guarantee and perturb its sufficient statistic (SS) accordingly. The mediator values the perturbed SS by the Bayesian surprise it elicits about the model parameters. As our valuation function enforces a privacy-valuation trade-off, parties are deterred from selecting excessive DP guarantees that reduce the utility of the grand coalition's model. Finally, the mediator rewards each party with different posterior samples of the model parameters. Such rewards still satisfy existing incentives like fairness but additionally preserve DP and a high similarity to the grand coalition's posterior. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of our approach on synthetic and real-world datasets. © 2023 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

— In recent years, time series prediction has become a highly interesting topic in various applied areas, including clinical time series analysis. Hospitals and other clinical healthcare systems collect Electronic Health Records. These records contain important information that needs to be mined. This information provides a solid basis for predicting hospital readmission, helping to improve healthcare, enhance patient outcomes, and optimize hospital resources. This study introduces a novel deep learning attention-based approach for predicting 30-day ICU readmissions using clinical time series information extracted from the MIMIC III dataset. This approach incorporates time-aware positional encoding into the attention mechanism to enhance predictive performance by capturing the temporal representation of data and considering the temporal order of clinical time series data. This model is compared with cutting-edge models. The significant enhancements in the model performance achieved by the proposed method highlight the effectiveness of incorporating time-aware positional encoding in capturing temporal dependencies and improving prediction outcomes. These results underscore the potential of advanced attention mechanisms in clinical time series analysis. ©2024 IEEE.

Stochastic neighbor embedding (SNE) performs nonlinear transformation from high-dimensional observation space to low-dimensional latent space which preserves neighbor affinities. Data pairs in latent space tend to be crowded due to the dimensionality reduction. To mitigate the crowding problem, certain characteristics are favorable in the design of the SNE setting. This study presents a fundamental analysis of SNE that not only generalizes the previous SNEs but also provides a systematic way to understand the intrinsic properties. From the perspective of theoretical connection, we are able to conceive a new generalized SNE (g-SNE) by introducing a regularized power-law distribution with the α-divergence for manifold learning. The proposed method generalizes and incorporates various favorable features for the clustering process. In addition, the proposed method provides high flexibility, admitting tailored realizations to properly reflect the similarity between original and dimension-reduced samples. Experiments are performed to analyze the proposed method, and its effectiveness is demonstrated with several learning tasks. © 2024 The Authors.
