Surface acoustic wave(SAW)devices are a subclass of micro-electromechanical systems(MEMS)that generate an acoustic emission when electrically *** transducers also work as detectors,converting surface strain into readable electrical *** properties of the generated SAW are material dependent and influenced by external factors like *** monitoring temperature-dependent scattering parameters a SAW device can function as a thermometer to elucidate substrate *** fabrication of SAW sensors requires labor-and cost-intensive subtractive processes that produce large volumes of hazardous *** study utilizes an innovative aerosol jet printer to directly write consistent,high-resolution,silver comb electrodes onto a Y-cut LiNbO3 *** printed,two-port,20 MHz SAW sensor exhibited excellent linearity and repeatability while being verified as a thermometer from 25 to 200℃.Sensitivities of the printed SAW thermometer are−96.9×10^(−6)℃^(−1)and−92.0×10^(-6)℃^(−1) when operating in pulse-echo mode and pulse-receiver mode,*** results highlight a repeatable path to the additive fabrication of compact high-frequency SAW thermometers.

With the continuing prosperity of LiDAR markets, the demand of a fast-scanning, high-precision and inexpensive LiDAR system is growing rapidly. In this paper, we disclose a fast-switchable ferroelectric liquid crystal Dammann grating and polarization grating-based holographic projection and detection system for 3D imaging devices and LiDAR with an extended field of view. Electronic ink (E-ink) displays have become increasingly popular in e-books due to their paper-like appearance, readability in direct sunlight, low power consumption, and flexible sizing. However, the slow switching speed of bistable LCDs and E-ink limits their ability to play animations. This paper proposes a novel method for fabricating fast-switching bistable liquid crystal displays capable of playing animations. The research is based on a new type of bistable LCD technology that achieves lower driving voltages than existing E-ink displays. The research team has significant experience developing bistable displays and has invented many new technologies in their laboratory. The proposed technology combines the benefits of bistable displays with the ability to play animations, a significant advancement in display technology. © 2023, John Wiley and Sons Inc. Using a room-temperature dip-coating technique, we propose a cinnamate-unit-phosphonic-acid-based surface tantalignment material that can be orientated by linear polarized light. Using the technique, we can treat a substrate simply and quickly, achieving a uniform pretilt angle of approximately 86° with a low dose of polarized UV light. We examined the optical and electrical properties of the alignment material under different conditions, including pretilt angles under different irradiation doses, voltage holding ratio (VHR) and residual direct circuit (RDC) when using different solvents, stability, etc. The results show that the material has acceptable performance. Since the phosphonic acid series photosensitive materials still have much room for optimization, we believe it is a potential new generation of photosensitive surfactant alignment materials. © 2024, John Wiley and Sons Inc. Antimony selenide(Sb2Se3) films are widely used in phase change memory and solar cells due to their stable switching effect and excellent photovoltaic properties. These properties of the films are affected by the film thickness. A method combining the advantages of Levenberg–Marquardt method and spectral fitting method(LM–SFM) is presented to study the dependence of refractive index(RI), absorption coefficient, optical band gap, Wemple–Di Domenico parameters, dielectric constant and optical electronegativity of the Sb2Se3films on their thickness. The results show that the RI and absorption coefficient of the Sb2Se3films increase with the increase of film thickness, while the optical band gap decreases with the increase of film thickness. Finally, the reasons why the optical and electrical properties of the film change with its thickness are explained by x-ray diffractometer(XRD), energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer(EDS), Mott–Davis state density model and Raman microstructure analysis.

Pain is a multidimensional and highly personalized sensation that affects individuals’ physical and emotional state. Visual analog scales, numeric rate indicators, and various questionnaires, all relying on patient-reported outcome measurements, are considered the "gold" standard methods for assessing the severity of pain. Nevertheless, self-report tools require cognitive, linguistic, and social abilities, which may manifest variations in certain populations such as neonates, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and those affected by dementia. The purpose of this study is to automate the process through multimodal physiological-data-driven machine-learning models in order to gain deeper insights into pain sensation. We developed a pipeline using electrocardiogram (ECG), galvanic skin response (GSR), and electromyogram (EMG), along with demographic information from the BioVid dataset. The Pan & Tompkins algorithm was applied for ECG signal processing, while statistical analysis was used for feature extraction across all signals. Our study achieved 82.83% accuracy in the SVM classification task of baseline (BL) vs the highest level of pain (PA4) for females aged 20-35. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for activity recognition and anomaly detection in smart home environments, targeting applications in convenience, efficiency, responsiveness, and healthcare. The proposed framework incorporates explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to interpret feature impacts on learning models and optimize feature selection for activity recognition and anomaly detection. The study examines the recognition of two activity sets: Activities Set I, comprising 8 activities, and Activities Set II, comprising 11 activities. Various machine learning models (random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), and XGBoost (XGB)) are employed, along with an ensemble voting classifier (EVC) with these machine learning. EVC achieved 91% accuracy for Activities Set I and 90–91% accuracy for Activities Set II. The model demonstrated strong precision, recall, and F1-score across most classes. For anomaly detection, the Isolation Forest and H2O Isolation Forest Estimator algorithms are utilized to uncover irregularities in daily routines. The Isolation Forest identified anomalies in activities such as chores and desk-related tasks, while the H2O Isolation Forest Estimator detected no anomalies in either activity set. This study underscores the potential of the proposed framework to enhance smart home functionality and highlights avenues for future research and system improvements. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

In this paper, we introduce a systematic design of an end-to-end cyber-secure monitoring and safe operation framework for solar photovoltaic (PV)-rich microgrids, by focusing on the use of on-line attack detector for defending against potential cyber-physical attacks and sensor measurement data processing for operational safety. The proposed approach is based on: 1) identifying component models using their input and output measurements;2) dynamic watermarking (DW) methodology for on-line cyber-attack detection and its timing;and 3) an adaptive event-driven safe shutdown procedure after attack detection. It is shown how these three components interactive steps jointly to ensure safe operation under both normal operational scenarios and compromised operational scenarios with some malicious sensors caused by cyber-attacks on solar PV microgrids. Through this on-line integration, the proposed framework dynamically adapts to varying solar irradiance, load demands, operating conditions, and potential cyber-physical attacks. This forms a cyber-physical system which can pro-actively detect and mitigate potential cyber-physical attacks on solar PV microgrids. We describe its proof-of-concept implementation using real-world industrial solar farm data provided by the CenterPoint Energy. This study contributes to enhancing the cyber-security and safe operation of solar PVrich power systems, offering a scalable solution to other types of emerging renewable-rich energy distribution systems. © 2024 IEEE.
