Experimental verification of the steering ellipsoid zoo via two-qubit states

The quantum steering ellipsoid visualizes the set of all qubit states that can be steered by measuring on another correlated qubit in the Bloch picture. Together with local reduced states, it provides a faithful geometric characterization of the underlying two-qubit state so that almost all nonclassical state features can be reflected in its geometric properties. Consequently, the various types of quantum ellipsoids with different geometric properties form an ellipsoid zoo, which, in this paper, is experimentally verified via measurements on many polarization-path photonic states. By generating two-qubit states with high fidelity, the corresponding ellipsoids are constructed to certify the presence of entanglement, one-way Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering, discord, and steering incompleteness. It is also experimentally verified that the steering ellipsoid can be reconstructed from using the 12 vertices of the icosahedron as measurement directions. Our results aid progress in applying the quantum steering ellipsoid to reveal nonclassical features of the multiqubit system.

Large-scale optimization problems are prevalent in several fields, including engineering, finance, and logistics. However, most optimization problems cannot be efficiently encoded onto a physical system because the existing quantum samplers have too few qubits. Another typical limiting factor is that the optimization constraints are not compatible with the native cost Hamiltonian. This work presents a new approach to address these challenges. We introduce the adversarial quantum autoencoder model (AQAM) that can be used to map large-scale optimization problems onto existing quantum samplers while simultaneously optimizing the problem through latent quantum-enhanced Boltzmann sampling. We demonstrate the AQAM on a neutral atom sampler, and showcase the model by optimizing 64px×64px unit cells that represent a broad-angle filter metasurface applicable to improving the coherence of neutral atom devices. Using 12-atom simulations, we demonstrate that the AQAM achieves a lower Renyi divergence and a larger spectral gap when compared to classical Markov Chain Monte Carlo samplers. Our work paves the way to more efficient mapping of conventional optimization problems into existing quantum samplers. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We demonstrate efficient on-chip green light generation via frequency upconversion in silicon nitride–thin-film lithium niobate (SiN-TFLN) hybrid waveguides, obtained by transfer printing LN coupons on selected areas of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). By utilizing modal phase matching (MPM), our devices achieve a high normalized conversion efficiency of 42.5% W−1cm−2 in a single-pass, 2.4-mm-long waveguide configuration. The SiN–LN transition in the waveguide inherently facilitates mode conversion, transforming a higher-order second-harmonic mode into a fundamental TE mode, ensuring coherent, narrow-linewidth, green light emission. Our waveguide platform gives rise to a wavelength shift of ∼1 nm for every 10 nm of waveguide width variation and temperature-induced wavelength tuning of ∼0.02 nm/°C. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been considered a key feature of next-generation wireless networks. This paper investigates the joint design of the radar receive filter and dual-functional transmit waveform for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ISAC system. While optimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the radar receive spatial response and maximizing the achievable rate at the communication receiver, besides the constraints of full-power radar receiving filter and unimodular transmit sequence, we control the maximum range sidelobe level, which is often overlooked in existing ISAC waveform design literature, for better radar imaging performance. To solve the formulated optimization problem with convex and nonconvex constraints, we propose an inexact augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) algorithm. For each subproblem in the proposed inexact ALM algorithm, we custom-design a block successive upper-bound minimization (BSUM) scheme with closed-form solutions for all blocks of variable to enhance the computational efficiency. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to provide a stationary and feasible solution. Extensive simulations are performed to investigate the impact of different system parameters on communication and radar imaging performance. This paper proposes an enhanced resource selection (eInP-RS) scheme for efficient intra-platoon message delivery of cooperative awareness messages (CAMs) and decentralized environmental notification messages (DENMs). To achieve this goal, the eInP-RS scheme allows each vehicle to transmit CAM and DENM packets on a C-V2X channel (CH1) and an 802.11p channel (CH2), separately, and introduces four mechanisms to enhance the standardized sensing-based SPS scheme. A contention window (CW) size adjustment mechanism is introduced to enable a vehicle to adjust its CW size according to the information it collects on CH1 in order to avoid potential packet collisions on CH2; a resource partition mechanism is introduced to divide frequency-time resources in a selection window into two sets in order for vehicles moving in opposite directions to select different resources and thus avoid potential merging collisions on CH1; an intra-platoon cooperation mechanism is introduced to enable the PL of a platoon to know the resource and channel occupation information of the platoon's hidden nodes on CH1 and CH2; and a packet collision detection mechanism is used to enable a non-platoon vehicle to detect packet collisions occurring on both channels after a lane-changing maneuver to avoid potential merging collisions. Simulation results show that the proposed eInP-RS scheme outperforms the standardized sensing-based SPS scheme in terms of the intra-platoon CAM/DENM delivery ratio and the average intra-platoon DENM delivery delay.

In real-world datasets, leveraging the low-rank and sparsity properties enables developing efficient algorithms across a diverse array of data-related tasks, including compression, compressed sensing, matrix completion, etc. Notably, these two properties often coexist in certain real-world datasets, especially in Boolean datasets and quantized real-valued datasets. To harness the advantages of low-rank and sparsity simultaneously, we adopt a technique inspired by compressed sensing and Boolean matrix completion. Our approach entails compressing a low-rank sparse Boolean matrix by performing inner product operations with a randomly generated Boolean matrix. We then propose a decoding algorithms based on message-passing techniques to recover the original matrix. Our experiments demonstrate superior recovery performance of our proposed algorithms compared to Boolean matrix completion, with equal measurement requirements.

The application of nonlinear conductivity coatings in high-voltage power module is a promising strategy for significantly improving electrical insulation performance. The core of the improvement principle is that the nonlinear conductivity realizes a dynamic optimization of the discharge risk inside the material. The realization of this nonlinear conductivity requires sufficient microscopic arrangement of fillers that align with the macroscopic insulation structure. However, conventional methods fail at precise arrangement control so that typically require high filler concentration, which markedly increases dielectric loss and leakage current. Drawing inspiration from the bamboo structure, metamaterials offer an efficient tuning of nonlinear characteristics with lower filler concentrations through thoughtful design. In this context, we introduce a novel approach to fabricate SiC whisker / silicon elastomer metamaterial coatings leveraging the dielectrophoretic effect. Comprehensive testing of the physical and chemical properties of the composites confirmed the successful preparation of the material. And the metamaterial exhibits excellent nonlinear conductivity and low dielectric loss across various temperatures. Notably, after applying the metamaterial coating, the maximum electric field stress within the power module was reduced by nearly ten times, and the partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) increased by 58.9%, 74.7%, and 32.8% at 30°C, 60°C, and 90°C, respectively. From solid physical mechanism to exquisite material design and practical device-level implementation, this study offers valuable insights into enhancing the insulation performance of power module and demonstrates substantial potential for further industrial applications. © 2024, The Authors.
