This paper proposes a new algorithm to generate a super-resolution image from a single, low-resolution input without the use of a training data set. We do this by exploiting the fact that the image is highly compressible in the wavelet domain and leverage recent results of compressed sensing (CS) theory to make an accurate estimate of the original high-resolution image. Unfortunately, traditional CS approaches do not allow direct use of a wavelet compression basis because of the coherency between the point-samples from the downsampling process and the wavelet basis. To overcome this problem, we incorporate the downsampling low-pass filter into our measurement matrix, which decreases coherency between the bases. To invert the downsampling process, we use the appropriate inverse filter and solve for the high-resolution image using a greedy, matching-pursuit algorithm. The result is a simple and efficient algorithm that can generate high quality, high-resolution images without the use of training data. We present results that show the improved performance of our method over existing super-resolution approaches. © 2009 IEEE.

In this paper, a volume management scheme that supports multi-host environments is designed and implemented. The proposed scheme provides various features for enterprise internet services such as online resizing, online migration and an enhanced configuration scheme considering workload access patterns and disk geometry. The SANfs is a shared file system in which multiple hosts can share multiple disks via a storage area network (SAN). SANfs is designed to provide high storage I/O performance and reliability to support the intemet web server, but various features of SANfs are limited by traditional storage management technology;therefore, a volume management scheme for SANfs is required. The designed volume manager in this paper, called SANfs-V M, can maximize the performance of SANfs and provide SANfs with high storage volume scalability and availability. It can provide SANfs with maximum system uptime and unlimited storage capacity using online resizing management. SANfs-VM can also provide the opportunity to use the disk characteristics and access pattems of system workloads by utilizing an enhanced configuration scheme. © PDCS 2003. All rights reserved.

The SCSI or the fibre channel (FC) disk drive, called SCSI-FC disk drive has its own internal queue and internal scheduler which maximize its own throughput. The request service order scheduled by the block device drive in Linux is changed by the disk internal scheduler (DIS) and we call this reordering. The conventional real-time disk schedulers are based on Linux block device driver, and the deadlines of the real-time requests are not guaranteed by the reordering of the DIS. This paper proposes a real-time disk scheduling architecture on Linux which solves the reordering problem. It consists of the global scheduler and the local scheduler. The global scheduler selects the real-time requests, predicts their disk I/O times and determines the order based on the spatial locality. The local scheduler is the DIS controlled by the SCSI-FC device driver. The device driver notifies the DIS that the real-time requests with the earlier deadlines must be served before those with the later deadlines. The local scheduler feeds back the measured disk service time to the global scheduler when a requested disk service completes. We have implemented the proposed multimedia disk scheduler on Linux, and the experimental results show that the deadline misses of periodic requests can be reduced up to 19 times (94.7%) by the proposed method. © 2003 IEEE.

In this paper, after modeling and analyzing a single-sided wound secondary linear synchronous motor, single- and multi-objective design optimizations of the motor are carried out to develop larger average thrust and lower thrust ripple than the prototype by using design of experiments (DOE) and response surface methodology (RSM) considering multiple responses. By defining the motor weight as another objective function, it is tried to prevent an increase in motor size and reduce its material consumption. The optimization results confirm that desirable improvements in thrust mean, thrust ripple and motor weight are achieved. Finally, a finite element analysis is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the employed machine models used in thrust and force ripple calculations and subsequently to confirm the proposed optimization method. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel and low complexity method for real-time video-based smoke detection. As a local texture operator, Non-Redundant Local Binary Pattern (NRLBP) is more discriminative and robust to illumination changes in comparison with original Local Binary Pattern (LBP), thus is employed to encode the appearance information of smoke. Non-Redundant Local Motion Binary Pattern (NRLMBP), which is computed on the difference image of consecutive frames, is introduced to capture the motion information of smoke. Experimental results show that NRLBP outperforms the original LBP in the smoke detection task. Furthermore, the combination of NRLBP and NRLMBP, which can be considered as a spatial-temporal descriptor of smoke, can lead to remarkable improvement on detection performance. © 2011 IEEE.

The internet SCSI(iSCSI)[6] disk has been studied as a storage system which can be directly connected to TCP/IP network. We designed and implemented a shared disk following the iSCSI protocol and providing cache consistency. It is named as intelligent iSCSI (i2SCSI) disk. The i2SCSI disk is developed to extend SANfs[2] over TCP/IP-based storage area network and solve the problem of managing a file lock in a centralized lock server by distributing lock manager over the disks. The i2SCSI disk provides cache consistency of all blocks that belong to the disk using a conventional cache consistency method. Due to the limitation of memory size inside disk, file-level locking is hard to implement in the i2SCSI disk. Instead, the i2SCSI disk uses 'contiguous blocks-level locking'. By doing so, memory utilization becomes smaller. A read lock is not required in the i2SCSI disk, which enhances read performance. The prototype of the i2SCSI disk and its client is designed and implemented in Linux 2.4. The experimental environment for the i2SCSI is set up on Linux cluster and performance of the i2SCSI disk is evaluated in the environment. Microbenchmark results show the effect of lock conflict on read/write latency and realistic workload test results show the effect of lock unit size on overall performance. © PDCS 2003. Efficient Data Valuation Approximation in Federated Learning: A Sampling-based Approach

Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a prominent distributed learning paradigm to utilize datasets across multiple data providers. In FL, cross-silo data providers often hesitate to share their high-quality dataset unless their data value can be fairly assessed. Shapley value (SV) has been advocated as the standard metric for data valuation in FL due to its desirable properties. However, the computational overhead of SV is prohibitive in practice, as it inherently requires training and evaluating an FL model across an exponential number of dataset combinations. Furthermore, existing solutions fail to achieve high accuracy and efficiency, making practical use of SV still out of reach, because they ignore choosing suitable computation scheme for approximation framework and overlook the property of utility function in FL. We first propose a unified stratified-sampling framework for two widely-used schemes. Then, we analyze and choose the more promising scheme under the FL linear regression assumption. After that, we identify a phenomenon termed key combinations, where only limited dataset combinations have a high-impact on final data value. Building on these insights, we propose a practical approximation algorithm, IPSS, which strategically selects high-impact dataset combinations rather than evaluating all possible combinations, thus substantially reducing time cost with minor approximation error. Furthermore, we conduct extensive evaluations on the FL benchmark datasets to demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms a series of representative baselines in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. In this paper we introduce a method based on model following adaptive control for non-linear flexible joint robots with time-varying parameters. A dynamic model of a manipulator with flexible joint is derived to establish the control law. Under the assumption of weak joint elasticity, a singular perturbation argument is used to show that recent adaptive control results for flexible-joint robots. In this strategy a plant should follow a suitable model reference. Despite of imprecise parameters of the manipulator and presence of joints flexibility, the tracking error will converge to zero and the robot stability is guaranteed. A 5 bar linkage robot with three revolute flexible joints is considered as a case study. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2008 IEEE.

The trajectories of moving object include useful information on the traffic situation and user behavior. The visualization of vehicle trajectories aims to provide enhanced understanding of the given data. Recently, technological advances in the satellite tracking system and handheld device facilitated personal log tracking which shows different properties compared to the trajectories of motor-assisted vehicles. In this study, we propose a trajectory visualization method based on the density map which highlights the areas where the trajectories with different kinematic properties are intersecting each other. The proposed method divides trajectories into several groups according to the kinematic properties of the given trajectories and generates the density map for each group. Based on the density map, the intersection map which visualizes the area that the groups are intersecting was constructed. The intersection map was combined with the density map to show the influence of the intersected area. In order to evaluate proposed method, we collected the bicycle trajectories and visualized them. The results showed that our visualization method was able to provide some visual insights which is hard to be noted from previously proposed visualization methods. © 2014 SERSC.

Metal halide perovskites have drawn great attention for neuromorphic electronic devices in recent years, however, the toxicity of lead as well as the variability and energy consumption of operational devices still pose great challenges for further consideration of this material in neuromorphic computing applications. Here, a 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) metal halides system of formulation BA2Pb0.5Sn0.5I4 (BA = n-butylammonium) is prepared that exhibits outstanding resistive switching memory performance after cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3) deposition. In particular, the device exhibits excellent switching characteristics (endurance of 5 × 105 cycles, ON/OFF ratio ≈105) and achieves 90.1% accuracy on the MNIST dataset. More importantly, a novel energy-efficient content addressable memory (CAM) architecture building on perovskite memristive devices for neuromorphic applications, called nCAM, is proposed, which has a minimum energy consumption of ≈0.025 fJ bit/cell. A mechanism involving the manipulation of trapping states through Cs2CO3 deposition is proposed to explain the resistive switching behavior of the memristive device. © 2025 The Author(s). advanced Materials published by Wiley-VCH GmbH.
