In order to effectively utilize the dielectric response characteristics of transformers to diagnose the insulation state,this paper proposes a two-level hybrid optimization method for analyzing time-domain dielectric response *** optimization algorithm is based on the combined statistical indicators(CSI)and random forest(RF)*** initial feature space set is formed with 23 time-domain *** the first-level stage,statistical indices correlation,distance,and information indicators are integrated to assess the synthesis score of the characteristics,while highly redundant and lowclass discrimination characteristics are eliminated from the initial space *** the second-level stage,the Random Forest based outside bagging data theory is introduced to evaluate the least important characteristics,and the characteristics with low importance indices are excluded to obtain the final optimal feature space *** proposed method is carried out on 82 sets of data from actual dielectric response tests on oil-paper insulation ***,the final optimal feature space set,along with several other data sets,is tested via different diagnosis *** results show that the optimal feature space set obtained via the proposed method outperforms other feature space sets in terms of better adaptability and diagnosis accuracy.

Photovoltaic (PV) systems operate outdoors and are inevitably exposed to various environmental stresses. These stresses may result in several faults and failures which can affect the PV proper performance in terms of reducing the output power and even in some catastrophic cases may end in fire hazards. Therefore, PV systems need to be constantly and carefully monitored to maintain their appropriate performance. In this paper, a condition monitoring (CM) scheme is proposed based on the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The scheme is capable to detect line-to-line (LL) and line-to-ground (LG) faults on the DC-side of the PV array and also enables the system to track the maximum power point (MPP) and provides the operator with the real-time PV information via Human-Machine Interface (HMI). © 2024 IEEE.

Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) is the newest video coding standard jointly developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET), which is organized by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). H.266/VVC provides about 40% bitrate reduction compared with High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265/HEVC) for the same visual quality. This paper introduces in detail the core structure of H.266/VVC by highlighting its features within block partitioning structure, intra/inter prediction, transform, quantization, and in-loop filtering, compared to its predecessor (H.265/HEVC). H.266/VVC yields significantly improved the coding performance, but it increased the computational complexity, particularly for the encoder side, which remains a problem to be tackled for successful commercialization in the future. This paper examined the statistical performance of H.266/VVC coding tools from the bitstreams encoded by the VVC test model (VTM12.0) encoder through rate-distortion optimization under the JVET common test conditions. In addition, the complexity and performance analyses are conducted on the block partitioning structure and group of picture structure. It is expected that an optimized H.266/VVC encoder can be designed and developed by minimizing the coding loss based on the analysis data. © 2023 Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. The proliferation of behind-the-meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DER) within the electrical distribution network presents significant supply and demand flexibilities, but also introduces operational challenges such as voltage spikes and reverse power flows. In response, this paper proposes a network-aware dynamic pricing framework tailored for energy-sharing coalitions that aggregate small, but ubiquitous, BTM DER downstream of a distribution system operator's (DSO) revenue meter that adopts a generic net energy metering (NEM) tariff. By formulating a Stackelberg game between the energy-sharing market leader and its prosumers, we show that the dynamic pricing policy induces the prosumers toward a network-safe operation and decentrally maximizes the energysharing social welfare. The dynamic pricing mechanism involves a combination of a locational ex-ante dynamic price and an ex-post allocation, both of which are functions of the energy sharing's BTM DER. The ex-post allocation is proportionate to the price differential between the DSO NEM price and the energy-sharing locational price. Simulation results using real DER data and the IEEE 13-bus test systems illustrate the dynamic nature of network-aware pricing at each bus, and its impact on voltage. © 2024 IEEE.

Magnetoinductive waveguides (MIWs) have previously been introduced for use in full-body, wearable applications through single- and dual-layer planar designs. MIW non-idealities that occur in the real-world, such as anatomical curvature, path bending, and clothing transitions, have been studied in isolation. Their cumulative effect has only been assessed through a full-body simulation study which identified that transmission was possible, with some limitations. In this work, we split the analysis into 1) arm-torso and 2) leg-torso to better understand the areas of a full-body system design that present design challenges. We determine that arm-torso transmission is a significant challenge for the dual-layer planar design, with a minimum loss of 8.1 dB higher than the leg-torso scenario. The single-layer planar design performs similarly for both scenarios. Finally, both designs remain viable in both presented scenarios, as also anticipated from the previous full-body results. © 2024 IEEE. All rights reserved.

This paper introduces the development of an essential deep-learning model for surveillance systems utilizing high-mounted CCTV or drones. Objects seen from elevated angles often look smaller and may appear at different angles compared to ground-level observations. To improve the detection of small objects, we propose a network incorporating an element-wise multiplication module based on the vanilla Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture. However, traditional transformer models need significant computational resources, which may not be practical for edge devices like CCTV cameras or drones. Therefore, we apply the Attention-Free Transformer (AFT) to reduce computational requirements enabling real-time operation on low-capacity devices. We validate the performance by combining ViT and AFT with the YOLOv5 real-time object detection model. Practical applicability is confirmed by implementing it on the low-capacity device named ODROID H3+. Validation datasets include Autonomous Driving Drone, VisDrone, AerialMaritime, and PKLot, all containing numerous small-sized objects. Experimental results on the VisDrone dataset show that YOLOv5 nano + AFT reduces parameter count by 4.6% while increasing accuracy by 1%, making it an efficient network. The model size is suitable for edge device implementation at 3.7 MB. Similarly, Aerial Maritime and PKLot datasets indicate a decreased amount of parameters and increased accuracy. Hence, the proposed deep learning model is applicable for aerial surveillance systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This correspondence investigates the novel fluid antenna system (FAS) technology, combining with reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for wireless communications, where a base station (BS) communicates with a FAS-enabled user with the assistance of a RIS. To analyze this technology, we derive the outage probability based on the block-diagonal matrix approximation (BDMA) model. With this, we obtain the upper bound, lower bound, and asymptotic approximation of the outage probability to gain more insights. Moreover, we design the phase shift matrix of the RIS in order to minimize the system outage probability. Simulation results confirm the accuracy of our approximations and that the proposed schemes outperform benchmarks significantly. © 2025 IEEE.

In the face of global warming and the acceleration of climate changes, urgent and decisive measures must be taken to mitigate these phenomena. This study addresses this urgent need by exploring the transition from traditional AC distribution systems to more efficient DC and hybrid AC/DC systems, recognizing the utmost importance of both technical developments and economic considerations. Through a thorough overview of existing literature and empirical knowledge gathered from the nanogrid of FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of University of Cyprus, this research clarifies the inherent advantages of DC and AC/DC hybrid systems. In addition, it presents a detailed case study for the comprehensive assessment of the feasibility and effectiveness of these systems. The preliminary economic analysis carried out in this study demonstrates the cost-effectiveness and performance improvements offered by hybrid AC/DC microgrids compared to conventional AC configurations. According to the findings of this work it is obvious that the ROI increases with the increase of DC loads over AC loads until the case where DC loads reach the 75% of the total load (ROI=13.9%). However, even in the case of Full DC microgrid, the ROI is higher by 1% compared to the case of Full AC microgrid thus significantly reducing the payback period. These findings not only underline the urgency of the transition to more efficient and sustainable energy distribution systems, but also provide valuable information for policymakers, industry stakeholders and researchers. By embracing these innovative technologies, a more resilient and environmentally responsive energy infrastructure can be promoted that is in line with the demands of a rapidly changing global climate. © 2024 IEEE.

At present, there exist some problems in granular clustering methods, such as lack of nonlinear membership description and global optimization of granular data boundaries. To address these issues, in this study, revolving around the parabolic granular data, we propose an overall architecture for parabolic granular modeling and clustering. To begin with, novel coverage and specificity functions are established, and then a parabolic granular data structure is proposed. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is used to obtain the numeric prototypes, and then particle swarm optimization (PSO) is introduced to construct the parabolic granular data from the global perspective under the guidance of principle of justifiable granularity (PJG). Combining the advantages of FCM and PSO, we propose the parabolic granular modeling and optimization (PGMO) method. Moreover, we put forward attribute weights and sample weights as well as a distance measure induced by the Gaussian kernel similarity, and then come up with the algorithm of weighted kernel fuzzy clustering for parabolic granularity (WKFC-PG). In addition, the assessment mechanism of parabolic granular clustering is discussed. In summary, we set up an overall architecture including parabolic granular modeling, clustering, and assessment. Finally, comparative experiments on artificial, UCI, and high-dimensional datasets validate that our overall architecture delivers a good improvement over previous strategies. The parameter analysis and time complexity are also given for WKFC-PG. In contrast with related granular clustering algorithms, it is observed that WKFC-PG performs better than other granular clustering algorithms and has superior stability in handling outliers, especially on high-dimensional datasets. © 2020 IEEE.
