The advent of sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication systems represents a transformative leap in global connectivity, moving from traditional internet of things (IoT) frameworks to an advanced artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) paradigm. This evolution presents significant challenges, primarily due to exponential growth in data volume, complexity, and latency requirements. To address these challenges, over-the-air (OTA) computation has emerged as a breakthrough approach by integrating computational processes directly into the communication framework, overcoming the inefficiencies of traditional separate designs. In this study, we explore the integration of OTA computation with reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) within multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) networks. RIS technology enhances signal propagation, mitigates interference, and optimizes wireless coverage, thereby complementing the OTA computation paradigm’s ability to facilitate real-time data aggregation and processing. Specifically, we propose a novel joint optimization framework aimed at minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) in multi-cell environments. This framework addresses the complexity of beamforming design through an innovative power-iteration-based majorization-minimization approach and a successive alignment technique. In addition, we perform asymptotic analysis to elucidate the performance benefits of large-scale MIMO and RIS configurations. We also consider the fairness of MSE computation throughout the multi-cell system. Finally, numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods and provide additional insights based on the asymptotic analysis. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Global Convergence of Direct Policy Search for State-Feedback H∞ Robust Control: A Revisit of Nonsmooth Synthesis with Goldstein Subdifferential

Direct policy search has been widely applied in modern reinforcement learning and continuous control. However, the theoretical properties of direct policy search on nonsmooth robust control synthesis have not been fully understood. The optimal H∞ control framework aims at designing a policy to minimize the closed-loop H∞ norm, and is arguably the most fundamental robust control paradigm. In this work, we show that direct policy search is guaranteed to find the global solution of the robust H∞ state-feedback control design problem. Notice that policy search for optimal H∞ control leads to a constrained nonconvex nonsmooth optimization problem, where the nonconvex feasible set consists of all the policies stabilizing the closed-loop dynamics. We show that for this nonsmooth optimization problem, all Clarke stationary points are global minimum. Next, we identify the coerciveness of the closed-loop H∞ objective function, and prove that all the sublevel sets of the resultant policy search problem are compact. Based on these properties, we show that Goldstein’s subgradient method and its implementable variants can be guaranteed to stay in the nonconvex feasible set and eventually find the global optimal solution of the H∞ state-feedback synthesis problem. Our work builds a new connection between nonconvex nonsmooth optimization theory and robust control, leading to an interesting global convergence result for direct policy search on optimal H∞ synthesis. In this paper, we propose a method to repurpose the multi-user MIMO downlink transmission for joint wireless communication and imaging. The key idea is to introduce the concept of virtual users in the communication coverage area and use the existing MUMIMO beamforming methods to jointly beamform towards real and virtual users. The virtual users are placed to complement the locations of actual users, with the objective to illuminate the scene as uniformly as possible. We study a single-parameter tradeoff, introduced by a power split parameter between real and virtual users. We demonstrate via simulated examples that the virtual user concept is effective in providing a scalable imaging and communications performance tradeoff for cases where the real users are clustered in small geographical areas.

The Internet of Things has been rapidly developed in many applications. Currently, a lot of IoT applications are using a conventional database as their data accumulation process. A conventional database is centralized and not immutable. So, data security will be a challenging task in IoT applications, especially for confidential data and reliable data. In this research, we would like to build a comprehensive security system to increase IoT data security in the IoT platform. The proposed system is an implementation of blockchain extension in the IoT platform as a connector to the blockchain network. Blockchain extension will be contained of WebSocket, Kafka, and smart contracts. WebSocket act as a data collector from the IoT platform, Kafka act as data queue processing, and the smart contract will act as data models and contract that will be stored and executed as a transaction of data in the blockchain. Kafka makes the blockchain extension more accessible from the outside platform, so users are able to build their smart contract by subscribing to Kafka's topic. We have tested our system on several bandwidths in several scenarios (Blockchain API execution time, Blockchain API speed, Blockchain, retention performance, and Smart Contract Vulnerability Testing). In Kafka, the optimal Transaction Per Second value is on 8Mbps with 0.76TPS and the smallest TPS value is 0.46TPS at 2Mbps. We also tested the smart contract vulnerability, the results are high severity, and the estimated gas will be 29898 - 136483 gas fees. © 2023 IEEE.

Diamond presents great potential for applications as high‑temperature and high-power electronic devices as a new generation of semiconductor material. However, the inherent low electrical conductivity limits diamond applications. This study aims to reveal the conductive mechanism of boron (B)‑sulfur (S) co-doped diamond for conductivity enhancement with density-functional theory (DFT) calculations and ion implantation experiments. Firstly, the effects of B-S co-doping on diamond's electrical properties are investigated by analyzing the band structure and electron transport at different doping ratios using DFT. Secondly, Precision doping into single-crystal diamond is achieved via ion implantation, followed by annealing to remove lattice defects. Thirdly, the lattice integrity after doping is assessed by Raman spectroscopy, the chemical compositions and bonding states are analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the electrical properties of the co-doped diamonds are evaluated by Hall effect measurements. First-principles calculations show that B-S co-doping also generates additional acceptor and donor energy levels that couple, leading to more uniformly distributed impurity levels, a narrower band gap, altered electron transitions, and coupling in specific orbitals. These modifications imply that a B:S co-doping ratio of 1:2 may be favorable for enhanced carrier activation and improved electrical transport behavior. Based on first-principles calculations and Hall effect experiments the optimal conductivity occurs at a B:S ratio of 1:2, which gives better conductivity compared to single doping or other ratios. These findings Preliminary provide complementary theoretical and experimental evidence supporting the modulation of electrical conductivity through B-S co-doping. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Solar photovoltaic (PV)-rich power distribution systems are networked Cyber-Physical systems (CPS). These are control systems where multiple computing nodes and diverse intelligent agents interact with the physical world in real-time. However, the presence of networked components renders them vulnerable to potential cyber-attacks, cyber-intrusions, and other malicious events. This is because these systems depend on the measurements reported from their heterogeneous sensors. This makes them vulnerable to potential cyber-attacks where malicious agents can compromise the sensors or the communication networks carrying the sensor measurements. This paper proposes a novel methodology for enhancing the cyber-security and cyber-resilient post-attack safe operation of solar PV-rich power distribution systems against potential cyber-attacks through the Dynamic Watermarking (DW), using online system identification. The resiliency of the proposed technique is tested and validated with several attack scenarios on both a lab-scale 3kW grid-connected PV inverter and a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) system. The proposed approach can be applied to other types of power distribution systems to enhance their cyber-secure and cyber-resilient safe operation. This paper thereby contributes to the field of cyber-security of Cyber-Physical Energy systems (CPES).

Modular Multilevel DC-DC Converter With Inherent Bipolar Operation Capability for Resilient Bipolar MVDC Grids

Bipolar medium-voltage dc (MVDC) distribution systems are of great interests nowadays due to its high availability and reliability. A bipolar MVDC grid can be established by the installation of power-balancers or directly by converters with inherent bipolar operation capability to avoid the extra cost and volume. Therefore, this paper proposes a modular multilevel dc-dc converter (MMDC) with inherent bipolar operation capability for the interconnection of bipolar MVDC grids and LVDC girds. Considering that the MMDC is normally only capable of operating with monopole MVDC distribution systems due to the symmetric structure and operation scheme, a center-tapped high-frequency interface transformer is employed on the MV side of the MMDC. Based on the concept of the flux dc-bias cancellation, a dedicated operation method is proposed, whereby the power flows of the two MVDC poles can be regulated independently with a simple control scheme, and no penalty of increased current rating is imposed on the semiconductor devices or the interface transformer compared to the conventional MMDC with monopole operation. Additionally, the MMDC can realize single-pole operation in case one pole is faulty and deliver at least 50% of the rated power capacity, which significantly enhance the reliability and availability of the power delivery. The validity of the proposed bipolar operation scheme of the MMDC has been verified by both simulations and experiments with a down-scale prototype.

The Why, When, and How to Use Active Learning in Large-Data-Driven 3D Object Detection for Safe Autonomous Driving: An Empirical Exploration

Active learning strategies for 3D object detection in autonomous driving datasets may help to address challenges of data imbalance, redundancy, and high-dimensional data. We demonstrate the effectiveness of entropy querying to select informative samples, aiming to reduce annotation costs and improve model performance. We experiment using the BEVFusion model for 3D object detection on the nuScenes dataset, comparing active learning to random sampling and demonstrating that entropy querying outperforms in most cases. The method is particularly effective in reducing the performance gap between majority and minority classes. Class-specific analysis reveals efficient allocation of annotated resources for limited data budgets, emphasizing the importance of selecting diverse and informative data for model training. Our findings suggest that entropy querying is a promising strategy for selecting data that enhances model learning in resource-constrained environments. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Intelligent Robotic Sonographer: Mutual Information-based Disentangled Reward Learning from Few Demonstrations

Ultrasound (US) imaging is widely used for biometric measurement and diagnosis of internal organs due to the advantages of being real-time and radiation-free. However, due to inter-operator variations, resulting images highly depend on the experience of sonographers. This work proposes an intelligent robotic sonographer to autonomously "explore"target anatomies and navigate a US probe to a relevant 2D plane by learning from the expert. The underlying high-level physiological knowledge from experts is inferred by a neural reward function, using a ranked pairwise image comparisons approach in a self-supervised fashion. This process can be referred to as understanding the "language of sonography". Considering the generalization capability to overcome inter-patient variations, mutual information is estimated by a network to explicitly disentangle the task-related and domain features in latent space. The robotic localization is carried out in coarse-to-fine mode based on the predicted reward associated with B-mode images. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed reward inference network, representative experiments were performed on vascular phantoms ("line"target), two types of ex-vivo animal organs (chicken heart and lamb kidney) phantoms ("point"target) and in-vivo human carotids, respectively. To further validate the performance of the autonomous acquisition framework, physical robotic acquisitions were performed on three phantoms (vascular, chicken heart, and lamb kidney). The results demonstrated that the proposed advanced framework can robustly work on a variety of seen and unseen phantoms as well as in-vivo human carotid data. Code: https://***/yuan-12138/MI-GPSR.
